Really Great Place for families and even small children. I went with my daughter, her fiancee and her 6 yr old twins to see the Super Blood Wolf Moon lunar eclipse last night. They had activists for the children as well as large telescopes set up for viewing. They are very informative about any questions you have. To my surprise there were people out with chairs and even blankets and sleeping bags on the ground to watch this event. I would definitely recommend this place. There was ample free parking and fresh hot free coffee. I did purchase a map of the moon for $7.95 and also a Baton Rouge star guide for $17.95 for the children. I'm so glad we got to go to this event!!!

Super cool. Volunteers manning the telescopes are very knowledgeable with the locating and explaining. Inside staff could definitely be more polite, but supposedly was one of their busiest nights so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Amazing facility with top-notch staff and volunteers. Special thanks to Jacob for all his help last night getting our telescope set up to where we now know how to use it with ease! Don’t miss the opportunity to go to these events!!

One of the more unique parks in the BREC system.

Attended a summer sky viewing that showcased the stages of dusk to twilight. The rangers were very knowledgeable and handled a group of ~25 with ease allowing everyone to view Venus through a small telescope. That night it was not possible to use the larger telescopes in the domes because of the amount of light in the summer sky during the timeframe of the showing.

Will most definitely be back in the winter for the meteor shower and and deep field viewing of the sky.

This is a great venue for all ages while being fun and educational. Good family outing.

Peaceful little place, even when crowded for the joy of May's full moon eclipse. We didn't explore inside too much or get to look through their big telescope because we had our personal scope, but they were nice enough to ignore our personal scope if we hung out in the big front field "out of their official viewing grounds/sight." Have to give kudos for that. It closes at 10pm every night otherwise, so a neat spot to go hang out and stargaze, and is pet friendly outside at least with a large front field that we'll borrow once in a while to throw the ball for my service dog.

Very cool place to bring someone who loves looking at the sky. Our son had been asking us to take him here and when they were doing an event we came. We all had a good time. We learned a lot and we found out we can sign up for classes to help us use his recent gifted telescope given at Christmas. He loves using it but has a hard time dialing it in or tracking the stars trough the sky.

Awesome great experience for the solar eclipse last year. Fun time for my 8yr old son with plenty of interesting displays to catch his attention.
Staff is knowledgeable kind and respectful to everyone except LSU students arriving late.

Informative views of the night sky and I always leave having learned something new. BT

Amazingly great night in the cold for the January 20th 2019 Lunar Eclipse.
The observatory had guest speakers whi h informed us about some of the stats in well known constilations as the moon darkened.

It was a very cold wait, but the red moon, a serperior blood wolf moon, was worth the wait. The night was perfect for observing the sky. The moon was so beautiful and bright then it slowly faded into red. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

I know some of the kids were even entertained by activities inside the observatory. I am sure that help them get through the waiting process.

Mr Chris is the star of this observatory. My son attended a camp and loved the activities. Also enjoyed the time Mr. Chris spent time teaching the kids.

16 & 20 inch telescopes provide views of astronomical objects while knowledgeable amateur astronomers and professors tell viewers what they are seeing. Lectures of Friday nights.
