Gateway Restaurant & Lounge

Being out of town, I was a bit skeptical pulling in. However, the service was the best I've had in a long time. Friendly, quick and attentive. The food was very good. If you are in the area check this place out!

This local restaurant has been a favorite for over 30 years it’s had its ups and downs but in the past few years it’s going way up. This hole in the wall restaurant is taken a turn for the good driving by it you would never think this place was good and then when you walk in some would just think there’s no way this place has good food. If they would just spruce up the outside a little and do a little makeover inside. The cocktails are good they have many specials to choose from, the food is very good and fresh made. The fried shrimp dinner is excellent fresh shrimp hand breaded (don’t get the shrimp basket they are frozen shrimp) the sides omg very tasty I like the Mac and cheese, coleslaw, scalloped potatoes they are all homemade. The side salads are good fresh made and most of the time a very generous portion occasionally you will get a skimpy one. The chicken and rice special is very large and good enough to share with someone else and get an extra side. The prime rib is also very good only can get this in the evenings when they have the prime rib shaved sub get it another great sandwich. Everything thing is good and the servers are very friendly the girls that clean up the tables are also friendly and are willing to help with what you need.

So when you drive up and walk in just remember the food is GOOD dont mind the decor.

Service was not good, but only because we had a server that was kinda new but shouldn't be in that line of work. Food came out quickly, and the hostess tried her best to fix things.

Old school but they have a good operation.
I'd go there again and recommend it to others for an evening out..

One of my fav restaurants! Haven't had a meal I didn't like. But their prime rib, stewed tomatoes, seared ahi tuna, and steak n cheese are the best!!

The wifey and I love the liver and gravy and the chop steak and gravy, the food and service are great, we love it .

We went for the liver and onions/gravy, well worth the trip. Every was great, our server and down home atmosphere. A good place to kick back and fill up.

Not real fancy. Food is great. Cream of crab soup about the best I have had in a long time. They make the wY its suppose to be with sherry in it. Prime rib better than any outback steakhouse.

Prime rib and most tender liver and onions I've had in years. More importantly, order your dinner and have them bring the rustic berry tart first. With two forks. You can always get a box for whatever dinners left over. Life's too short to skip world class dessert.

What a wonderful dinner! Rockefeller scallops, imperial stuffed mushrooms, catfish bites, prime rib all perfectly cooked! Cocktails on point as well :) Chef was also very helpful and accommodating to my pain in the A$$ gluten issues. Thank you chef, it's appreciated more than you know❤

One of my favorite places to eat. Every meal I've had has been nothing less than delicious, and everything is reasonably priced

This place has always been a little hideaway. You can actually taste the heart and soul that chef Danny puts into his food. I dare you to find a piece of shell in the crab balls or imperial. The parmesan crusted pork chop special is mouth watering and he can take the "house steak" and almost transform it into a prime rib. Do yourself a favor and take a trip here, you will not be disappointed.

Our server was excellent. We ordered a fried Oyster meal and the rib meal. We finished it off with the pumpkin spice donut. It was large enough to split. All the food was very good. We plan on returning with another couple soon.

OMG. What an under the radar MASTERPIECE! We were heading back from patuxent oyster co and totally thinking we were getting lunch elsewhere. I noticed the Gateway had high reviews on google and thw hubs and i made a split second decision to try it out. SO GLAD we did! Most of the parking is around back so don't make the mistake of thinking its closed or under patronized. The door is on the side, kinda u marked. It looks like an emergency exit or something, it's totally blank and opaque. But that's it. GO IN. Tables bear signs indicating they are sterilized between patrons. Ths place is a little dark up by the bar but the larger dining room was well daylit. We snagged a booth by the bar. We wanted to try everything but we ended up with fried pickles, fried oysters, a tuna melt, and the oyster skins (crispy tater akins stuffed with jumbo lump crab casino). Sooooooooooooooo good. Beer on tap was fresh, cold, crisp. Clean taps! Delicious food!!! Incredibly friendly service. We ended up getting carrot cake and pecan pie afterwards. Very happy. All that and 4 pints of beer came to about $80. We overheard them talking about prime rib so my hubs said "we're coming back tomorrow" :-D

Gateway Restaurant is a hidden gem. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but the atmosphere is great. Everything we've eaten has been good. The servings are quite hearty and the prices are very fair.

Awesome people, incredible food! Our first time to eat here and we will absolutely be coming back! They give you a ton of food, so come hungry! Excellent quality, fresh ingredients... very fair price. Couldn't ask for better!

Very good food and the service is great. We pretty much had the dinning room to ourselves at 5:30pm. The lounge was not loud and obnoxious as to distract from our dinner date. Casual dress is perfect.

Great comfort food spot! Love the Crabby burger (burger w/cheesy crab dip) and the the SW chicken sandwich (grilled with cheese,bacon, and BBQ sauce. Come for the Prime Rib stay for the funnel cake Fries! Wonderful staff too!

A nice down home place, good food, great service, and great prices.

Friendly staff. We had good food and great service, bar-family restaurant atmosphere. We tried the crab sandwich platter, oysters casino, and the crabby burger platter.
