Asahi Japanese Steak & Seafood

I have been eating at this restaurant since I was in the 3rd grade! I remember attending here for a field trip during our Japanese history unit in Social Studies class. I have made this my go-to spot for birthdays, holidays, graduations, and promotions. It is one of my favorite spots to eat in St. Mary's County and probably always will be. In my most recent visits, I hadn't seen the one waitress in a long time, but she would memorize my little family. The hibachi grill can't be quite the show, but I often just get the table to avoid waiting for more people to join the group. Being in the military, I have traveled around the world and tried a lot of "yum yum"sauce... but there is none quite like the one served here. Thank you, Asahi, for all of the great food memories you have provided me!

One of my favorite places. I'm only giving this place 5 stars on service because of the Phillipino waitress. She knows the menu and is very attentive. She checks on all of her customers regularly. If you receive service from anyone else, it will be below average or horrible in comparison. You will either wait a long time for refills, or have no opportunity to order desserts due to the long time in-between check-ups. My company goes there every Monday. We always get the Phillipino waitress because we request her. She has the perfect waitress personality, and you can tell she loves her job. The rest approach you like soul-less zombies, they don't pay attention, bring you the wrong items, don't know the menue, I could go on for hours with everything they do wrong. The good news is they finally got ride on the one waitress who just spends your entire lunch time on tiktok. Now of they would just get the other 3 up to speed. With the Phillipino, my meals are around $40 to $50 because she understands English very well and gives me the opportunity to order extra stuff, desserts and etc. If we are ever stuck with bad waitresses, I just order the basic. $12 item... knowing after the first round of drinks and soup/salad that I probably won't see them again until it's time to go. Maybe management will see this and do something about it. I'm a customer, I shouldn't have to explain what a chirashi bowl is every time.

I loved everything about this place starting with the way we were greeted and welcomed to the table from the fresh ingredients they use on their grills and the cooking in front of you experience is definitely worth giving it a try ! Also very affordable compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area. I will let the photos speak for themselves.
PS: they do lunch specials as well.

This place was great and had actual Japanese beer. The name of it is Asahi if the name of the restaurant didn’t give it away. The Chef was interactive and not there just to do his job. The waitress checked on us constantly. The food tasted great. Pricey and would still return.

Phenomenal! This is my favourite Japanese restaurant outside of Japan. The sushi is easily some of the best I have eaten and the hibachi food is all fantastic. Have not tried any desserts here. Service is great and place seems clean. Highly recommend!

The food is delicious. Prompt attentive service. Very clean restaurant. My go-to for local sushi. Dine-in or takeout, quality is consistently great.

I'll just say it. The smoked and broiled Eel was the best fish I ever tasted in my life. We had it as an appetizer first then came back the next day to have it as a main dish. I think it's called Unajo. So fatty, juicy, tender and succulent. Worth a trip to check it out.

good sushi selection, great service. If you are doing takeout I recommend their Udon. You can tell they know what's up because they give you the broth and noodles in separate containers. Hibachi was good too- nailed the shrimp flip.

One of the best Hibachi restaurants we have ever been to. The Chef was absolutely amazing and our daughter enjoyed his show. The Sushi was perfect! This will be our go to restaurant when we are in Maryland.

My food came out quickly and the sushi and sashimi are always fresh! Plus, the prices are not as high as other nearby sushi restaurants.

The food was DELICIOUS and the service was great, we had tons of extra food to take home. One of our chicken appetizers we had were a little over cooked but still extremely delicious. I can’t wait to eat here again with my hubby when I come up to Maryland!! 😋 🤤

The sushi was great!!!! We loved every choice we made and weren't disappointed at all! The appetizers weren't that good but we went there specifically for sushi and beer so it was perfect! Will definitely eat there again soon!

This is the first time we've eaten here without the Hibachi show. The staff was quick and polite. The restaurant generally was clean and inviting. We'll be back for the good food and atmosphere.

Been eating here for years. I mostly eat their blue beef appetizer -niku tataki-, sashimi appetizers and dishes, anything tempura, assorted sushi and anything from the hibachi menu. No bad experiences and I haven't got sick after a meal either.

California rolls are fresh prepared. It's my favorite item to purchase

Very clean ...great waitstaff...knowledgeable chef...friendly couple with our group....super fresh sushi & others said the same about their choices ! Couldn't have been planned any better.
