Abele's Family Restaurant

Wow. This place is so awesome. We were in Morganton for the day and we landed on this place for supper and it was an amazing decision.

Service was fast and very very kind and helpful. Food was stellar and everything on the buffet was fresh and hot. Atmosphere was very cool and eclectic. Truly can't beat the price either, very affordable for this quality, and a massive menu so there's something for everyone.

Will definitely come back!

Popped in on a road trip and couldn’t have made a better choice. It was getting pretty chilly out so ordered a hot chocolate with steak tips and a loaded baked potato. Everything came out pretty quickly. Hot chocolate was delicious without being overly sweet, and the steak tips were nice and tender and paired great with the savory mushroom gravy. It was one of those southern home style meals that I was just really craving and warmed me up instantly.

On top of the good food, the waitress was absolutely lovely and took great care of us. There were a lot of fun signs on the walls to read, and once we finished eating we didn’t have room for a full dessert, so we stopped at the little candy shop by the register to grab a treat for the road.

Overall, a great break from driving and good, southern cooking.

C’mon in and get some lip smacking, belly filling, delicious breakfast! We had to wait a little bit, but it was definitely worth the wait! Our server, Brenda, put the restaurant experience over the top. She was kind, helpful and attentive! We chose not to order the breakfast buffet although it looked very very popular. My husband ordered the pork chops and eggs with biscuits and gravy. The pork chops were cooked to perfection seasoned perfectly, and not dry. The biscuits were hot, fresh and fluffy. We saw lots of bikers outside, so we knew the food had to be good. Don’t let the line fool you. They move quickly and you won’t want to miss this locally owned restaurant. I ordered the Belgium waffle and it was delicious. Pictures weren’t that great because we started eating! Make this a stop for you and your loved ones!

We were heading to Asheville for a wedding and stopped in Morganton to eat. The Mexican restaurant next door was not open yet so we went to Abele’s. What a win! It was perfect timing! I love me some biscuits and gravy, but because it was around 11, they were switching the buffet over to lunch. So I got my B’s and G’s AND got fried chicken, okra, and some delicious corn bread. All for on very reasonable price. And the decor was awesome. Tons of old signs like my mother in law used to collect. Will definitely be back!

Had a lovely dinner here with my mom. The vibe in here is very much small-business, locally owned Cracker Barrel, but in the best possible way.

The service was superb, our server was such a sweetheart. I legitimately cannot remember the last time I had a server that was so genuinely warm and friendly.

Food was solid too. They nailed my chicken fried steak, and the collards I got were some of the best I’ve ever had. Great value too! Big portions and we paid far less than what I was expecting.

This was such a nice intro to Morganton! I even bought a jar of local honey while checking out. I’d definitely come back next time I’m in town. Wonderful restaurant, wonderful folks!

My Wife And I are in town for her birthday, we are coming from Washington DC, The was simply amazing and great....Definitely taste like The Real SOUTH 😋. The service was simply amazing and great 👍🏾. We are definitely coming back soon.

I've only eaten here for the first time the other day, and I'm glad I decided to try it out. The woman at the door greeted us with a smile and led us to a table. Very clean and outgoing atmosphere. My waiter was amazing. He was full of life and friendly. He didn't even have to write down our order and we only had to tell him what we wanted once. We were served quickly and the food was perfect and delicious. I felt at ease eating here and will definitely be returning!

We ordered the fried bologna sandwich, pierogies, and chicken dill sandwich; all delicious! I'll definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

As we were heading towards Greensboro, we stopped to get gas and decided to eat as well. I'm SO glad that we stopped at this exit!!!
Abele's was an incredible restaurant!!! Nothing bad to say about this place at all!!!
Everything on the salad bar was fresh and well stocked (best salad bar EVER!!! Huge selection)
Same goes for the hot vegetable bar as well.
My wife had the pork chop and I had the liver and onions, both were absolutely AMAZING and it was only $10 per person!!!
Everyone that worked there was super friendly and our server, Amber was simply the best!!!
The atmosphere of the place is brilliant!!! It's like stepping into a time capsule!!! I actually played Pac Man for free before my food arrived!!!

You need a stop on your way through Burke County, well here you go. Very well decorated with fun collectors items. Ultra friendly service with a relaxed feel. Don't expect fancy but do expect a warm feeling entering this restaurant. Wings, burger and chicken sandwich was very good. Buffet style Salad Bar for those who want all the fixings. The Christmas music was delightful. These pictures show how it feels walking in this restaurant.

The food and buffet are incredible. I had the Bleu cheese and mushrooms steak and it was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Our server, Darlene, was just perfect; Attentive and prompt and friendly. The interior of the restaurant is fascinatingly decorated in a maximalist way. If you want good home-cooking style food, Abele's is a great choice.

Update: we went for the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet today. Wow. There are sooo many options, and it all tastes like good old southern comfort food home cooking. Very impressed. Our waitress, Kris, was so sweet and attentive. We definitely want to go back for their buffet again!

Their salad bar rocks, the veggies, biscuits, and bread pudding are fantastic, and then there's the menu!
You can get 1 meat and the vegetable & salad bars for lunch for about $11 and dinner for $13.

For only $10 I got a delicious pork chop and ALL of the sides I could want. I got to choose from an entire list of delicious meat selections, and then there were several bars of sides to choose from where it was all I could eat. Salad, soups, desserts, and so much more. You get more than your money’s worth. Trust me.

The food was fantastic, and the service was great. I’m definitely coming back.

The only complaint, you leave absolutely stuffed when you go for the breakfast bar. Friday nights after 8pm you can get breakfast for supper. It's well worth the wait and the crowd. Food is always fresh.

Thanksgiving lunch was only 1 hour wait and food was delicious 🤤

It was our first time eating here, we were drawn in by the big sign on the interstate and the excellent rating. This was the "BEST" breakfast bar that I have ever ate and the coolest decor throughout the restaurant I've seen yet. It felt like you were in a antique museum, which is right up our alley. We will definitely be back!!

Endless breakfast buffet and endless vegetable bar along with salad dar. Great place for the hungry family who wants a healthier option than fast food. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. They also know a few extra tips about ordering from the hot bar menu

I believe the lunch bar should be beefed up a little bit more. Didn't understand why there wasn't bacon bits for the salad. The temperature outside that day was 44 degrees. The temperature in the area where I sat had to be every bit of 32 degrees. Did not understand why the air conditioning and the ceiling fans were on. I completely understand that the staff is working and gets hot they do not cook where you sit. I have loved eating here for a long time even back when they were in their old building. Sometimes I believe going back to your roots is a must. Remember and treat your customers correctly. Make sure they are satisfied and comfortable. No you do not have to kiss the rear end. Just doesn't feel or look good when everyone is sitting around wearing coats trying to eat and you are indoors.
