NCDMV - Marion Driver License Office

Best DMV experience I've ever had! I arrived without an appointment shortly after they opened and I experienced no wait. If there was a wait, there were plenty of seats in the sitting area.
Jason C. was efficient, friendly, and skilled. He even had a sense of humor(?!?!?!). In and out in 6 minutes to update my drivers license to the new Real ID. Some of the best customer service I've ever experienced, and I didn't expect it to be in a DMV!

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. He got right down to business and had me in and out quicker than any other DMV I’ve ever visited. Wait time was minimal; I only had one person in front of me for my walk-in appointment. Thank you for the convenient service.

Took me longer to drive there then the time I spent. Walked in for my appointment about 10mins early. All but 2 seats were filled. By the time I sat down I was called in. Zero complaints quick and efficient.

I had a great experience at the DMV with the Guy Jason about taking the road test and he made me feel comfortable. I was happy that I went to that DMV. He was an excellent examiner for the road test.

Wow… just wow! So we had to drive an hour to Marion DMV because of lack of appointments, so incredibly glad we did. My 16 year old daughter had the absolute best experience with Dereck “Big D” Lanning! She was so nervous to get her license and he immediately made the experience extraordinary for her. She was so nervous she couldn’t even sign her name. Dereck shared experiences and gave her confidence and she left saying she only ever wanted to go to that DMV location. Thank you Dereck! Oh also with an appointment we only had to wait about 5 min.

This was the easiest drivers license renewal I've ever had other than renewal online!
No waiting. Took 10 minutes total. No appointment necessary.
Friendly staff. Easy to find. Easy parking.
Doesn't get any better. Highly recommend this location.

Only one examiner working, but he was very professional and gave me updated information that NC DMV hasn’t provided yet. I don’t like waiting anymore than the next person, but it’s not the fault of the people actually working!

I had the opportunity to take my daughter earlier this morning to get her learners permit. We did not make an appointment with hopes that there would be an opening. There was only two guys running the show and they did awesome. They even warned us up front of the time wait so we knew what we were up against. If you don’t make an appointment, don’t get upset because you have to wait that’s just how it is but they did their best to accommodate the walk ins. We were there a few hours and because we got there early enough, we were able to get taken care of. The gentleman we had was awesome and he was great to my daughter, really laid back for a DMV officer, great guy all around! My drivers license was due for renewal next month and he was willing to take care of that for me as well. Even though my daughter did not pass, he was really supportive. We’ll be back to see him again in 7 days

I was dreading getting a new NC license for months. It took months to get the appt but the Marion office was much sooner than Asheville so it was worth the extra drive time. I had an appt at 1pm and I arrived 15 min early. They took one appt and two walk ins before me and I was seen and everything taken care of by 2pm.

Mike was very helpful and went over and beyond. Instead of refusing me and making me come back for not having a printed insurance version he kindly printed it for me and returned my headphones when I accidentally left them in the office.

Although it took a while to get an appointment, once arrived, it was the most painless DMV experience I have ever had.

Trying to get my son's learner's permit has been a fiasco all around but luckily there was an opening at the Marion DMV the following day. Totally worth the 75 mile drive! Colonel Lanning was friendly, approachable and immediately put my son at ease before the written exam. We were in and out so quickly too. We are SO grateful. He explained everything clearly about the next steps and even wrote them on a paper for us. He also told my son clearly what they would be doing the driving test on 12 months from now. I was able to ask questions without condescending answers and we didn't feel rushed. He was such a fun character! Thank you so much! I can't say everybody who were walk ins had the same experience but he was aware of them and was trying to see to them all. Wonderful experience. Going back there for all my dmv needs.

GO TO MARION DMV!!! DON'T EVEN BOTHER WITH ASHEVILLE, MORGANTON...NONE OF THEM. We could never get an appointment at the Asheville office...we live in Asheville. And my son needed his permit. My son is already 16....but we had been trying for almost a year to get his permit. He could not pass that dang permit test, no matter how much he studied. And when you don't pass....it takes 2 months to get another appointment. So we finally decided to try Marion, even though its a 50 min drive for us. We made an appointment.....and my son failed again!! Luckily Marion had another appointment opening in 25 days. So we went back, he failed again. I mentioned this to Derrick, the guy who helped us both times at the DMV.....about how my son has taken the permit test atleast 9 times and just cannot pass it. And since there is so much time in between appointments....you can't get anything sooner than a month after you fail....that now he's 16 and still no permit. Derrick did something amazing for us....he said....quit making appointments....come back every Wednesday...no appointment...just walk in...and I'll take him straight back to take his test. So we did....every Wednesday we'd drive to Marion...and it still took 3 more times....but he finally passed on December 14 lol. And Derrick said we could just walk in for my son to come back and drive to get his license. Derrick is AMAZING! I am so thankful for him. He will do whatever he can to help you! Oh..and the bossman there is awesome too! thank yall so much for all you do!

The Marion NC DMV office is awesome. I've never had such amazing staff at a driver's license office. Even when facing down computer systems and a full lobby of impatient people, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us all, and they did so with a smile. My son had a great experience getting his license here. I recommend Marion DMV for any North Carolina DMV needs.

As everyone knows, getting into a local DMV in a timely manner has proven to be quite the challenge the last few years. I was unable to get into any offices within a 25 mile radius before mid to late February, and I just don’t have that extra time. Marion, NC was able to get me in today, 01/05/23. Upon arrival, my name was called within the 15 minute window of my 09:45 am appt. I had the pleasure of meeting Colonel Lanning, who was not only professional, courteous and well-versed, but had a fantastic disposition while dealing with the general populace. He went above and beyond to ensure my experience with NC DMV was a pleasant one. Many thanks to Marion, NC DMV and namely, to Colonel Lanning!

Great DMV. Usually not very crowded. Pretty painless and quick to get in and out. I've gotten a permit and motorcycle license here, both times were a breeze. Less than 10 minutes wait from walk in to getting back with an employee. In-and-out in about 30 minutes total for a on-bike motorcycle skills test. Really pleased with the service and speed of this office.

I have been a licensed driver for 32 years and this is the first and only time the examiners had great positive attitudes and acted like they wanted to actually help me and I was not a problem. My best experience ever when dealing with a government agency.

Fantastic experience! We had to come down from Bunrsville because our DMV office is closed due to COVID. Also the appointments were a month out so I thought that I had made my daughter an appointment at the same time that I made my son's. Turns out I must not have completed the appointment online and it only scheduled him. The lady working there was phenomenal and went ahead and made her an appointment 🙌🏻 thank God and we are so thankful to her! Awesome job!

Took my daughter to get her license, this morning. The gentlemen were professional, courteous and personable. We often hear DMV horror stories but we had a great experience.
