Two Girls and a Cupcake

Swooped by to grab 2 cupcakes (Blueberry Tart and Reeses) on our way home from Starved Rock. The cupcakes were delicious! Very moist, flavorful, and the icing was just the right amount.

The woman behind the counter was very nice to me! Not sure why these other comments are negative. She seems to have a very reflective personality, if you're nice to her, she'll be nice to you! And if you're mean, then you probably don't deserve her amazing cupcakes (shrug).

WOW do they have good frosting! Im not a frosting person either but my goodness did they nail it! Worth stopping by, especially if a visitor coming in for Starved Rock or Matthiessen, it makes the trip even MORE of a special treat ✨

Best Cupcake I Have Ever Eaten!!!! The sugar cookie cupcake was a wonderful meld of my 2 favorite desserts. It even had a thin layer of granulated sugar in between layers of decadent frosting so that the texture was represented as well as flavor. Brilliant!! If they won't mail them, I would consider driving a distance to pick them up. Cosmic chocolate was delicious, too. They told me they use real ingredients, and I could taste the real butter and real chocolate. It was lovely how they decorated them, too. Congratulations to this local gourmet success!!!

Bought a dozen cupcakes yesterday, and while they, obviously, cost more than your grocery store, they were the best cupcakes I've ever tasted! The frosting was amazing! I had a good chat with the owner, a little dry humor and sarcasm is right up my alley. We'll definitely be back for more cupcakes next time we're in the area!

Very professional fun owner. Huge selection of cupcakes. Clean and cupcakes are delicious. We drove from the Quad Cities to purchase a dozen. Yum! A must have if you haven't tried them.

Love her cupcakes! My family & I have visited her shop 4x since last summer. There seems to be lots of whiny complaints posted here regarding cost & personality. But in order for a small shop like this to survive in this post pandemic/ inflationary economy their cost needs to go up. Personally, I love the owners sarcastic candor. If you want grocery store bakery goods go there otherwise give Two Girls and a Cupcake a try. They won’t disappoint!

I loved this place! The owner is amazing! She is hilarious, honest, and just all around genuine! We had a small group and we were all just hanging out talking about the area, her business, family, life stuff, etc. Oh yeah, and the cupcakes are kickass! Perfect size, delicious, and priced well! I'll be stopping in when I go through that town again!

Great way to treat yourself after a long hike! Staff is always super friendly and delicious cupcake flavors are always rotating!

After reading some of the reviews from the "I want to see your manager Karens", I felt the need to leave my own review. We stopped in on a Saturday just before two. We knew they were only open until 3:00 (or until sold out) so we were hoping we would get lucky and buy a few. The selection wasn't huge but knowing their hours and the sold out rule, that was OUR fault! To those that are saying the owner is rude, oh please, she is delightfully charming with a bit of sass! What should have been a 2 minute stop turned into 10 mins because we had a wonderful conversation with her. The cupcakes are spectacular! Some of the best I've ever had! Can't wait to try their cookies from their Dangerous Cookie Company!
And to the Karen that complained about the masks, it's a mandate and not a law. You could have just walked out if you were uncomfortable Debbie Downer!
We're hoping to stop on the way to the in-laws today but we're getting a late start. If they are closed or close to selling out, again it's OUR fault! Love this little shop and the delicious cupcakes and hope to make this a regular stop. And to the owner, you keep doing you girl! You're awesome!

The cupcakes were awesome. I read a few other reviews, the owner was described as sassy, a little rude, I called her spunky! She professed her pride in making the best cupcakes! We got a few different ones, don't remember the names. Peanut cream cheese, strawberry cream cheese and heathbar something. She is definitely doing a great job! Not only was the icing and fillings rich and creamy, the the cake was excellent!

My husband and I came in on our way back from our weekend getaway to try a couple cupcakes. The lady that served us made it seem like we'd regret only getting one cupcake each...and she was not wrong! I wish I got more. Some of the best cupcakes I've had. Not overly sweet, very creative, and very flavorful. Don't worry, I'll be back, and I'll buy more!

Came here before I was a local guide, after going to Starved Rock. I love the pink Bigfoot statue by the entrance! I got four cupcakes and I still remember what they were. One was this super cute, limited Eagle Cupcake that had a cashew for a beak that was filled with chocolate pudding, a salted caramel cheesecake and a strawberry cheeskecake cupcake. They were all outstanding, probably the best cupcakes I've ever eaten! A bit expensive, but I'm willing to pay for the best cupcakes ever.

Very interesting name. Makes me wonder what came first, the cupcakes or the video?? Lol. J/k. Anyways, girls are friendly. I love that you can watch them make the cupcakes. Very cute design's. Kinda on the expensive side thus buying 12 cupcakes coming out to over $35. But, the flavor's are very good. I like to mix and match.
Only down side was the casher having a long conversation with a customer while there was a line. Don't get me wrong. It's nice that they like talking to the customers. But, could of had them step aside so they can take care of the other customers waiting. Definitely a must go to, for those visiting the starved rock area. Or if you have a craving for their delicious cupcakes 😉

I am not sure where all the negative reviews are coming from. I have been to this place many, many times and have had nothing but pleasant and excellent experiences. Most of the time I am there the person behind the counter is a nice woman (who I want to say is the mother of one or both of the girls...I hope I'm not wrong on that) who takes time to answer any questions you have.
The cupcakes are delicious! I can't have chocolate so there is a limit to what I can order there, but everything has been top notch. Others who I have been with say any of them with chocolate are really good too. I disagree with everyone who says they are overpriced. It is a specialty store, if you think your going to get a dozen for the same price as you would at the local grocery store, you're wrong. These are WAY better than the grocery store kind in every way shape and form.
Yes, the store is on the small side. But if you look around when you get in there most of the room is taken up by the kitchen and decorating spaces. It's not like there is wasted space here.
Summary: Great Cupcakes, really nice people, and a unique place I am sure you won't find anywhere close by. Stop in, ignore the negative reviews and give it a chance for yourself. I bet you won't be disappointed.

I needed a holiday treat for the people at my mill. We saw their sign just off I80. My wife said everyone loves Gourmet Cupcakes. She was correct. These cupcakes were amazing and a huge hit. Stop in and support this business. It is wonderful.

We visited on 8/14 at right after noon and had an amazing experience. Both girls were funny, happy, and upbeat making our experience a very enjoyable one! Very funny and friendly, and very outspoken and i see nothing wrong with that. Not to mention these gourmet cupcakes are the best ive ever had! We came for the product, unsure what to expect, and left knowing we will be back! Would give them ten stars if i could!

My daughter brought home a dozen assortment cupcakes from her weekend. Oh my gosh the ones I said no thank you too were the BEST! It was the apple pie ones. Of course the others she picked were ellecent. I will highly recommend your cupcakes to my friends..🥰
