The Knickerbocker on the Lake

Love this place! It's not cookie cutter comfort--it's unique and homey. And the rooms are so well appointed, without being absurdly big and filled with off-gassing carpeting.

It’s a very charming hotel 5 min walk from the lake. The employees are very helpful and friendly. The room has a proper kitchen with everything you need to cook a proper meal. Highly recommend it!

Fine old hotel, beautiful setting by the lake front. Spotlessly clean, well-maintained. Helpful desk clerk. Found a free parking spot on the street close by. Located within a short walk (eg 20 min) to bars, restaurants and lively ambience of Brady Street (more to be explored next time).

Love the Knick. Always great food and service. Indoor and outdoor seating for any ocassion and the patio is heated during the winter. The happy hour is a hit for an early dinner during the week!

An absolutely charming hotel. Great Restaurant and a completely stocked and very clean Kitchenette. Small, beautiful details, like the old wooden service doors, the portal passage ways and friendly personell, all contribute to a lovely experience.

Situated Downtown in a gorgeous building, it becomes even more breathtaking when you walk in! The hotel has a fantastic charm, definitely not the usual routine chain hotel vibe at all. We really loved the character and the location! The restaurant was good, professionally handled and the food was tasty.
We had a wonderful experience! Every staff member we encountered, from the check- in to the cleaning staff were delightful and eager to help! Thank you!!

Lovely airbnb room in a classic former residential hotel. Quiet, clean, well-appointed and comfortable.

This is perfect for people visiting MSOE or any place in downtown Milwaukee. It is walking distance from the lake and two blocks from the HOP (Trolly).

It was my first stay there and it will definitely not be the last! Walking into the hotel my breath away! It was gorgeous. The front desk staff was friendly and very helpful. The rooms were very clean and quite spacious. I loved looking at all the pictures in the lobby. And it was so convenient there was a restaurant right in the hotel.

Pleased in everything about our stay. The location put it over the top. The Knick restaurant was fantastic too. No need to be out searching for a place to eat. We had breakfast, lunches and dinner.

I don't think you can really beat the price for this location. The hotel is old, but all pieces that require care and attention are taken care of, giving the best of both worlds when it comes to older hotels near downtown. The art in the lobby was also very impressive. Parking is provided at an additional cost ($20/night) -- having lived near the neighborhood before, street parking can get a little rough especially at night.

The only minor set-back was the icy intake at check-in. Even the stiff upper lips at The Chicago Club were friendlier. I felt unworthy there for a moment. But, the staff in the restaurant more than made up for it. Everyone else was top-shelf in customer service.

The staff was very helpful and cordial. Loved that we didn't have to go far for fine dining and we loved the spa!

Our home away from home when in Milwaukee. The Happy Hour food is great.

Worth the price, rooms are clean. Customer service is a bit inattentive but it's made up for in accommodations if you make the staff aware of any amis qualities.
Beautiful decor, the lobby is a immaculate sight to behold.
Lots of rich history, and a restaurant that will make you come back for seconds.
I like the privacy you get. Throughout my stay not a single person bothered me unexpectedly or just walked into my room.
Good hotel if your willing to spend the extra.

Stayed here for my bachelor party weekend. The outstanding location made getting to different places very convenient. The hotel staff was amazing for all of us. The rooms had loads of character, spacious and very clean. The restaurant had an outstanding brunch with great wait staff for hungover guys! Couldn't be happier! I will be back!

Have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by the hotel. A few of the reviews on here had mad me wary, but we saw no problems at all. We were only here over a Friday night and didn't check in until around 6pm but had no problem getting a spot in their lot. The staff at check-in were very helpful and you can easily leave your car outside while you take care of it. The hotel itself was elegant and clean and our suite was in superb condition. It felt like an old-school hotel room but with bang-up-to-date and very clean fixtures. King bed was very comfortable and kitchen fully-equipped and immaculate. Bathroom seemed brand new and was also very clean. The room was a little warm but you can always crack a window in these older hotels. The rooms still have physical keys, so be careful with them! We tend to gravitate to the County Clare when we stay downtown, but based on this experience, I would definitely add the Knick to the options.

I had an amazing experience here, I was a tenant for 3 months and it was the best 3 months ever. I highly recommend asking for Lynn Obermeir, she is a great host and literally the nicest person ever.I had no issues my entire stay here was phenomenal, she won’t disappoint I’ll definitely be back .😊
