Amazing food in a chill, casual atmosphere. Come at Happy Hour and dinner for live music. Order at the counter and the wait staff will bring your food to you. The sign on the stairs to enter the restaurant lets you know how long the wait will be for a table. All dishes have fun presentation- This is a great spot to hit for happy hour! The POG Foam Mai Tai, Lava Lava Shrimp, and the Lobster & Crab Mac & Cheese were the best!

I came for the fish tacos and they did not disappoint! Crispy, with some really excellent 'melt in your mouth' fish, topped with a bunch of awesome ingredients made for really delightful fish tacos. Probably the best I've ever had! Though there is a part of me that thinks the ingredient ratio is a bit off... Tacos kept leaking ingredients when I would take a bite. But overall, excellent.

I am mildly disappointed with the chips and salsa... Chips aren't much to write home about, they're quite hard and while they might be made fresh, they definitely weren't hot when they came to me so that magic is kind of lost. The salsa is also not much to write home about, and desperately needs a change to make the flavor a bit more BOLD. It's such a weak flavor it's hard to notice what it's even made of. But I'm glad it's included with the meal, and would rather have free weak chips and salsa rather than no free side.

The Coconut Crystal Shrimp appetizer though? Heavenly PERFECTION. They could not have made a more perfect dish. Sweet, sour, fresh, fruity, tangy, crunchy... Excellent. No notes on that!

The staff were helpful, and I liked how hands off the experience was, just ordering from the front (and thank goodness, you can get your own unlimited soda refills), and while the atmosphere was maybe a notch or two too loud, I like how it was a local musician and I'm overall happy with the experience.

I went there fully expecting a tourist trap. NOT! Phenomenal food, very friendly servers, helpful order taker, great vibes, pleasant live music, prompt service. Prices were right and did I say the food was awesome!
A “must do” in Maui. Lava lava shrimp with rice and veggies is fantastic! Tacos were fresh and delicious and so was the sampler. I would encourage them to umph-up their drinks though. Cocktails were weak and left a lot to be desired. Stick to beer and standard stuff and your experience will be perfect!

Arrived at 10:20am. Before the lunch menu switch and I didn’t want to wait so we ordered breakfast. You have to order at the counter and then find a table. We all found suitable items. The women ordered a mimosa flight and enjoyed it to the end. The food came out quick and hot. Everyone finished their plate no problem. Happy hour here starts from 2-5 with entertainment. Definitely work the visit.

Our group had lunch at Down the Hatch - Maui one afternoon after doing a submarine tour in the area. We saw an order of the Lobster & Crab Stuffed Grilled Cheese going to anther table and knew we had to try it.. and we're so glad we did! It was so very tasty! We also ordered the shrimp tacos, calamari, loaded fries and bacon brussel sprouts.. everything was delicious! Even though it was a hot afternoon, we found a table in the shade overlooking the koi fish pond.. and had the best time!

A great place for a meal! The food was great. We had the pork and grilled cheese and crab sandwiches. Definitely try the grilled cheese! Plenty of shops to explore after your meal.

Update: came back a second time for breakfast. Food is still super delicious! Definitely go for breakfast as well!

We had Down the Hatch twice during our stay (dinner and breakfast). Both times were fantastic! The Cajun Ahi, Fish Tacos and Spicy Caesar Salad (not pictured) were all delicious.
For breakfast, my family had the Seared Ahi Benny, Pork Belly Benny, the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit and fruit bucket (not pictured). All of these plates, minus the bucket, are big portions, so bring your appetite or share with your family!

Order at counter and then seat yourself. My party of 6 was very happy with the drinks, Mimosa flight and Bloody Mary Carfes are delish! The food was phenomenal, the turtles in the koi pond stealing French fries were hilarious.
We returned several times during our stay and we’re never disappointed.

We came here on our first night after finding out almost everything is closed after 10pm! This is a great place to eat the kitchen is open late and they also have great drinks. There was a DJ and a small dance floor. Great inside/outside feel. We got the quesadilla and the pull-boy sandwich and they were both delicious.

It’s kinda a weird setup but you’ll recognize the line from the street. It’s one of those order at the counter and grab a table setups.

Awesome food tho. Everyone gets the lobster grilled cheese but that just sounds so heavy for after a day of surf and snorkeling. The Mahi fish ‘n chips are just about perfect. Fish tacos were too sweet and the sauce fell flat without much flavor for me. Maybe chef was off that day. And if you aren’t into the food, at least they have a coi pond…

We basically got one of everything on the menu and loved every single item! Both versions of the shrimp were really yummy and the lobster crab grilled cheese was my favorite! Fish and chips is a large portion and some of the best I’ve ever had. Steer clear of the calamari, I think they took it out of a Walmart box

Really good food. We had fish and chips, lava lava shrimp tacos and lava lava chicken sandwich. Definitely try this place out! Their happy hour deals seem really good, and that’s when they have live music. Also, if you show your receipt, you get 15% off your shave ice which is by the fountain drink dispenser.

Lots of places at Maui can be overpriced but not this place. I felt the prices were reasonable for what I got. The chicken sandwich with the lava lava sauce was absolutely incredible and I also enjoyed the mermaid fries. Fast service too, I came in on a busy Friday Night and it didn't take long at all to get my food.

I went for happy hour which was a great deal. Went with friends and shared 5 delicious apps. The Brussels sprouts were definitely a hit as were the mermaid chicken strips and the coconut shrimp. Counter service with food delivered to your table. Outdoor seating only and does get crowded. Delicious food st a good price.

First time for my clan, second time for me. The food remains amazing! Everything my party had to say: "it's amazing", "this is the best I have had ever", "I want to live here and eat everything". We ordered chicken and waffles X2, mermaid fries with pork, mermaid chicken, popcorn shrimp (kids menu), and the pig platter. Everything was devoured within minutes!

Yes. Go here. It’s as good as expected.

Honestly when we first walked up it looked a little more “bar-like” than we were looking for that night. I’m so glad we decided to stay though! We walked in and ordered at the counter. The menu isn’t huge so keep that in mind. We seated ourselves with our number and food was out before my husband got back from the bar! I got the appetizer sampler for dinner, my husband got mermaid tenders, and my mother in law got the sweet potato tacos. My sister in law and her partner got the chicken sandwich. Everyone loved their food. Honestly I don’t think you can go wrong here. That being said, I would 100% come here to destroy a platter of pork quesadillas again.

Food things to note: chicken sandwich was on Texas toast which is THICK bread, and it’s made basically out of the tenders. Report was it was still phenomenal. Tenders have sauce on them when served, ask for it on the side if you’re not into that. Calamari is thick rings, very good and high quality, but apparently I’m a lower quality calamari kinda girl lol. It was for sure overshadowed by the rest of the appetizer platter.

I came here everyday in Maui and I wish I could take this place home! Especially the breakfast menu has so many interesting items and I didn’t get to try them all.
- Recommend lava lava shrimp and the omelette version of it. Extraordinary.
- Huevos Rancheros is slightly spicy and good
- Seared tuna: when you try to cut it, it’s still tangled rather than a clean cut. But it has HUGE portion and it’s fresh. First time I finish the side first before finishing seared tuna. So I would recommend it!

Fun atmosphere and lots of food options. We came here for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised. There was live music in this outdoor setting which was what we were looking for. We came back for dinner another night and there was another live band. Casual atmosphere. You order at the bar and sit anywhere you want. They bring your food to you. Poke was very fresh and the burger was also very good.

Order at the counter and grab a table. Wheelchair accessible from the back. Food is plentiful, fresh and tasty. We had fish tacos, pulled kalua pork, mermaid fries, sampler platter, coconut shrimp. Everything was good. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

This is well worth the hype. I stayed a week in Lahaina and we went here three times. Yes it does get busy during dinner time but it has great music and u can go up to the bar to get drinks while you wait.

Fried shrimp tacos with avocado were my favorite, the lobster grilled cheese was also pretty good. Drinks were great.
