Such a cute little zoo! My favorite part was the river otters. It's so cute watching them swimming and flipping around having the best time! I also loved the wolverines, it was fun to watch them run around and play. We visited in November when it was about 30 degrees out - there were a good amount of animals to see and I was absolutely satisfied, but there were many who were hiding. The paths are pretty well-maintained, but be careful and wear proper footwear if you're visiting during an icy season! I definitely recommend checking out this charming little zoo.

I visited the zoo in January 2024. I was hoping for a guaranteed moose sighting, but unfortunately the moose were not out that day. Lots of animals were not out (to be expected in the winter) but the ones that were out were very active, so that was nice. The little polar bear was a highlight. We were told that he had just been given a new toy, and indeed he was really enjoying it! I also loved seeing some of the animals in their little coats. The coffee shop in the center of the zoo is quite good as well.

Fantastic little zoo! Very charming. Well groomed trails. We witnessed some feeding times. Many animals were happily playing. They all have suitable enrichment and toys in their pens. Some baby animals to see. The place had no waiting, no lines, and was not at all crowded! Always got front and center viewing when animals were doing cute things. I also love that they share the animal's life story. Most are rescued!

I wasn't sure how visiting would be in the winter, but I was pleasantly surprised. Don't expect the bears or big cats to be out and about (they were all hibernating or napping) but you can expect to see some of the following: lots of beautiful birds (owls, eagles, ravens, and more!), a playful sea lion / seal and otter, Caribou, mountain goats, musk ox, camels (yes, camels!), llamas, deer, and coyotes. I even got lucky enough to see some baby black bears playing in the snow!

Also, keep in mind that the vast majority of these animals are rehabilitated or unable to live in the wild as well. There are lots of signs around explaining the stories of the animals, why they're at the zoo, and facts about their species. If you stay for long enough you might also watch some of the animals get fed by staff, who appeared very friendly with the animals from my perspective.

It was a delightful day, and I left the zoo with a full heart, grateful to be graced with the presence of the animals I saw.

P.S. The raven was probably my favorite animal, as it was incredibly vocal and made some very adorable sounds. Some of them even sounded like electronics? They were amazing!

It might not be the biggest zoo in the country but the animals they have are amazingly active. They had lots of local wildlife and an incredible tiger. It’s great place to spend an hour. It is a little expensive but so is everything in AK. Definitely recommended.

Amazing zoo! Friendly staff and interactive animals. Can visit year around despite the snow! Make sure to buy a bag of popcorn when you get your tickets that you can walk around and eat before entering.
The otters and polar bear were especially interactive. We enjoyed seeing all the native wildlife. Family friendly and a great spot if you have little ones.

I appreciate the signs with animal background very much, it makes me feel better about why some of them are there. The animals seem very well taken care of and the keepers are definitely interactive with them. Grandmother approved.

All rescuing zoos get 5 stars from me. Instead of a walk in the park, take a stroll in the zoo! Great, convenient nature fix.
I do have concerns regarding the dead trees and dry debris all over. I pray there is never a fire in the area. Seriously, that needs to be cleared!

We loved our visit here! I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews, but it must be different expectations. We live near the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa which is huge - a full day trip. The Alaska Zoo was delightful! The day was perfect (sunny & beautiful snow) & we were delighted seeing animals we’ve never seen before - snow leopard, musk ox, polar bear, harbor seal, peregrine falcon. We could have spent longer lingering with the animals, but our short trip at 22 degrees was perfect.

We visited in June. I make a point to go to the Zoo almost everywhere I go. Alaska Zoo is smaller than some of the others but they have a good variety of animals. Lots of shade when walking. Zoo staff were very nice and helpful. Just an FYI for folks with mobility considerations: most pathways are gravel.

Sooooooo beautiful. Most of the animals were out and looking at us-- 😁 lots of snow this time of year but we really enjoyed our time there. The paths are very walkable and it was quiet and a perfect time to go with few other visitors. Stopped for coffee to warm up; kids had hot chocolate. The little shop was rustic and barista was a kind woman who chatted with us a bit while we warmed up for a few mins.
Loved the layout of this zoo, and smelling the evergreen trees. The gift shop has great trinkets, zoo themed clothes, and some beautiful local artists' prints for reasonable prices. Cant wait to get mine home and framed.
A must see place in Anchorage!!!!

It's the most natural zoo setting I've ever been to, it's not a concrete jungle with tons of souvenir stands everywhere

A great place to take the whole family! Love the selection of animals to see! They also offer animal "experiences" and have a playground on site along with a coffee & gift shop. The whole zoo was a really relaxing and peaceful.

I went to this zoo while visiting family in Anchorage. The layout was very easy to follow and overall had a great time visiting this place. It’s really impressive to see the grizzly bears so close ! It’s also cool to see the ravens, mountain goats and polar bears they have there!

A nice little zoo. The habitats are very natural, not a lot of fake concrete rocks and displays. The animals were very active. You could pet the alpacas. The sidewalks are mostly gravel so a stroller isn’t going to be easy to push.

Awesome place to spend 2-3 hours in summer time. A lot of wildlife and very beautiful greenery.
We have seen black bear, brown bear, a lot of Ravens, alpacas, Moose’s, tiger, snow leopard, Hunchback camel, owls, red fox, and mainly a Polar Bear, and a few more other animals. This place is much fun for kids. I would recommend this place for people who are visiting Alaska. The gift shop was outdated and have very few interesting items.

I love this zoo, and animal refuge. Every exhibit in the park is alluring and fascinating. My kids love it so much. I love that they are always interested in going. We go just about every Sunday. Porcupine, tigers, wolves, wolverine, snow leopard and Llama (rest easy Caesar) are our must see every time.

Had an event here. Greenhouse gets really hot on a sunny day. But lots of room and tables set up so nicely. We were able to go around the zoo as part of the event which made it extra special.

Great activity to do with your time spent in Anchorage. Jake the bear and the two bear Cubs in the infirmary were my two favorites to visit! The otters were super active when I arrived around 1000. Loved reading about how all the animals were rescues. Highly recommend.
