I was pleasantly surprised after dining at the Homestead Resort, which is a culinary tour de force, that my wife and I would so thoroughly enjoy the delightful offerings of the Waterwheel.

A staff member of the Homestead suggested if we were determined to leave the resort for a meal, that without question, we should make a reservation at the Waterwheel Restaurant.

My wife ordered the “deckle rib eye,” which I had never heard of but was about to claim as my new favorite cut of steak. It consists of the outer band of heavily marbled meat that surrounds the inner core of a full rib eye steak.

The small strips of perfectly cooked and seasoned steak was a symphony of tender marbled goodness.

I ordered a pork chop over a bed of firm cauliflower with the most amazing cream, shallot and sherry sauce. Had I been paying closer attention to the menu, I might not have ordered the pork chop because I don’t care for cauliflower. For the first time, I loved it.

The chef visited our table and gave me the basic ingredients for the sauce which will certainly become a family favorite. Thank you sir.

Another surprise was the wine cellar. Rather than a pretentious and lengthy list that waitstaff often struggle to remember, customers are invited to visit the cellar and choose their own bottles which are clearly priced.

The staff was friendly and attentive. The entire experience was spot-on. Very well done.

Always a great date night for my wife and I. Our most recent visit was exceptionally good...best shrimp and grits ever...#1 on the list of greatest meals I've ever eaten. Our waitress was exceptionally attentive and very courteous.

Quite a variety of menu choices, all of which appeared to be unique in taste and presentation. The 4 of us all ordered different items and were very happy with our choices. I had the Bolognese which was superb. The rustic old mill gives you a nice ambience to enjoy each other's company and conversation. If in the Hot Springs/Warm Springs area, it's well worth the effort to enjoy the experience

We came here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Seven years ago we had been here to experience a fabulous meal. So naturally we wanted to try it again. We were not disappointed. In fact, the dining experience was even better. The first course was their 6 onion soup. On our last visit, we remember the French onion soup was their calling card. This new onion soup iteration was just as good . Then the wild green salad with a unique balsamic dressing was served. Delightful flavor coupled with fresh local mixed greens was a big hit. Next, the main course arrived. It consisted of charcoal-broiled wild caught mountain trout with asparagus over a bed of spaghetti squashed. This was the best trout we’ve ever eaten. Our server Kelly provided outstanding service and guidance. One of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. And we’ve been all over the world. Expensive-yes but worth it. The food transcends the area. Schedule a reservation in the area. You will be very happy you did.

In town staying at the local resort. Found the Waterwheel on Google and then was recommended by some folks we met at the resort. We loved the meal!! We had appetizers, salad, and entrees for our group. I was blown away to find such great food in such a rural area!!!n

My wife and I went there tonight for dinner. WOW!!! What an excellent dining experience. We can't say enough about the quality of the food. The salad was scrumptious, I had the Ribeye, and the wife had the stroganoff, cooked to perfection. An amazing and extremely relaxing dining experience. We will definitely eat here again.

The food, drinks, and service are always incredible at The Waterwheel Restaurant. So much thought and care are put into each dish — dining here is truly a unique and delicious experience every time. The wine selection is fantastic, as are the cocktails by Mikey behind the bar.

We were fortunate enough to have this team cater our 2021 wedding and host both our welcome dinner and farewell brunch. Everyone worked tirelessly all weekend to provide amazing meals, drinks, and service for our guests. We will forever be grateful to Kate and John and team for all they did to make our weekend so special.

My meal was amazing. An Aviation with pickled shrimp, a delicious wedge salad, and the salmon.

This place's food is top tier. Service staff strives to take very good care of their guests and take pride in their place of work.

Keep up the good work making wonderful food, encouraging good times and making all of us feel so special! Thank you all!

We were staying at the Omni Homestead and I wish we had ventured off property sooner! The food here is head and shoulders above the tired, oversalted fare that is the rule there. The dishes here were creative, beautiful, and impeccably prepared. We had the Chicken Crepinette, the Coraline salad, the fish special, the Pasta Capellacci. They have a few off-menu options for kids. The flourless chocolate cake was the best I've had anywhere. The only misfire for us was the peach cobbler which was probably on point as a classic cobbler but was too doughy for our tastes. There's a nice selection of beers in addition to wine and cocktails. Small bar area and outdoor lounge area. Kids can enjoy walking around outside and seeing the water wheel and the grindstones from its days as a mill.

I go to a fair amount of nice restaurants, this place was excellent. The food was thoughtful and local, even included foraged elements which is a rare food to get even in high end restaurants. The wine cellar is a small experience of actually exploring an old cellar filled with wine. The building itself is historic and nicely kept. I was one of the last services and the chef came out to chat as well. He's a friendly and interesting person. I was so pleased to find this place on a mountain vacation. Will likely be vacationing in the area again to come here.

Exceptional experience! The food was phenomenal. The mixed greens salad was fresh with tons of veggies. The chicken was outrageously good - moist perfection on the outside with the oh-so-crispy skin - I seriously cannot wait to visit again just for this dish. The creme brulee was perfection - that thick, sugar crust was perfectly done. 10000% recommend the Waterwheel!

We were in Bath County exploring and enjoying the area as a celebration of our 46th wedding anniversary. The Waterwheel proved as special as its reviews. The food and presentation was very good and the setting beautiful. Service is always the most important factor though, and Kendall made our evening! She was attentive, friendly, and nothing too much trouble.
Thank you Waterwheel AND Kendall for making our anniversary so special!
