Lamberts Meadow Shelter

Beautiful, very rustic Appalachian Trail shelter with some tent sites and a bear box. I prefer my tent over sleeping in the shelter, especially after hearing one hiker had to receive rabies shots after sharing a shelter in several states north of this one with a bat. Although this shelter had no signs of any wildlife and very clean, I prefer my tent.

Well, I don't think I actually got to the right shelter. Maybe just a camping site near it? It had one of those boxes and a table. Nothing else. But it was beautiful and peaceful. No one else around.

Shelter could use some work, but one of the best places to set up a tent next to a peaceful babbling brook! Shelter does have a bear box and stream has running water in the middle of winter

Great place to go but FYI you cannot access LMS or LMC via Mountain Trail Rd. Mountain Trail rd is just a driveway to a family's home. We reported that mapping error to Google today. Andy Layne Trail or Daleville is the only entrances.

Good shelter and water source

Definitely rustic, and I swear something was living under the shelter. As I turned off my headlamp for the night my hiking buddy and I immediately heard the sound of what can only be described as the crunching of bone beneath us. I fell asleep shortly afterwards, but the crunching continued off and on throughout the night torturing my buddy. Just so you know the water source is very close, the privy isn't terrible, and there's a bear box. When we were there it appeared as a bear recently had visited the box from the paw prints on it. 😂 Overall, I'd stay there again.

Stream is incredibly low, but the shelter itself is nice, and a big open picnic area across the stream.
