J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood St. Louis

We were so excited to hear J Gilbert’s was open for our traditional Christmas dinner. The service was fabulous. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable. Upscale dinner and great date night. Quiet romantic dining in the restaurant and also tables in the bar where they have tvs for catching whatever game is playing. Fixed meal options with three courses and 2 sides. Great wine selection. Fresh Sourdough bread was served warm. Reasonable prices and appropriate portions. *we split our dinner so portions look small, but they were perfect. Our 8oz filet was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. The mashed potatoes were creamy and yummy and the green beans were great. Will definitely go back.

Update - 10/27/23 tried the house salad and the 8oz fillet with green beans and lobster Mac & Cheese. The house salad had fresh ingredients and it was served with a delicious creamy red wine house dressing. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. So much flavor. Green beans were good. The lobster Mac & Cheese was incredible. One of the best I’ve ever had. Very warm bread was served with the salad. Excellent meal.

I got the wedge salad and the 8oz fillet with green beans and asparagus. The crumbled blue cheese and the buttermilk blue cheese dressing makes the salad. What distracts from the salad is the lettuce with lots of brown spots. I ordered the fillet medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered the blue cheese butter as my sauce which Really enhanced the enjoyment of eating this steak. I was disappointed with how small the asparagus was. * Note to self, ask about the asparagus before ordering it next time. The green beans with the pecans were delicious.
My son got the creamed corn as one of his sides. He said I needed to try it and they either use sweet corn or added sugar because it was delicious, it could be used as a dessert. My son loves crème brûlée and the portion was larger than normal, no complaints here, and it tasted great. The fresh raspberries were a nice addition. Donald was our server and he was excellent. He was busy and when he wasn’t attending to our table, he would often look at us to see if we were trying to get his attention before he would go back to the kitchen or bar. He was very professional. My son and I like the open dining room concept. The noise level was low so it was easy for my son and I to hear each other and enjoy the surroundings. There’s plenty of covered parking in the garage that’s about 50 yards from their door.

The scallops, the lamb and the mushrooms are absolutely amazing! Now I love a good Ceasar salad so I didn’t need to brag on that. But, when I say the mushrooms are amazing, they are amazing! It’s the wild mushroom with truffle butter! You have to try it! The ambiance was nice and the server was great! Easily, 10/10.

My boyfriend & I came for a late valentines day dinner last night. After our amazing experience we have decided this will be a regular go to for celebration meals! Joey, our server, was very knowledgeable when we asked for wine recommendations. We we're especially impressed when asked that, that Joey took the time to understand what types of wines we liked and did not recommend the most expensive on the menu. We got a dozen oysters and they were amazing! Both of us ordered from the Prix Fixe menu, me getting a steak & scallops, and my boyfriend getting the pork chop. We were both amazed with our food and service. For desert we got the cheesecake & chocolate layer cake with espresso martinis. Best.espresso.martinis.ever. Overall, We were very impressed by our visit and will be returning!

Our waiter was very attentive to our needs. The food was outstanding, the drinks were fantastic as well. It’s a little spendy, but if you’re ok with that get ready for an awesome meal and staff that treat you like royalty. Fantastic on every front. I will definitely be back.

Great ambience with helpful and attentive wait staff. I definitely enjoyed my experience and highly recommend this experience. The Spicy Blackberry Margarita was excellent. The bread had a crisp outer shell and was soft and fluffy on the inside. The Wood Grilled Ribs melted in my mouth and were perfectly accompanied by the Salt Baked Potato and Green Beans with Pecans. The Bourbon Maple Shrimp were huge and delicious. I wanted to try the Coconut Layer Cake or the Chocolate Velvet Cake, but I was full and had plenty of leftovers to take home. I will definitely return. There are enough menu choices to satisfy everyone.

My client hosted a Christmas dinner here and they exceeded expectations. Elizabeth was pleasant to work with to coordinate in a small time frame. A majority of our party were first-time guests and the waiter was thorough with menu suggestions. The food was great the drinks were average. The parking was the only downside because of the mall location but I will attribute that to Christmas. I will be back soon

Such a great ambiance for a date night. The food was delicious. Our favorites were the crab bisque, lamb, scallops, creamed corn, chocolate cake, cheesecake, and espresso martini. The filet, ribs and fries were also great. We had Monica as our server, and she had great recommendations and provided top notch service. Definitely a great spot for a special night!

Came here on a Tuesday evening, we were seated immediately and service was quick, food came out quickly, Timothy was our server and he was great. My steak was a tad more cooked when I asked for medium but it was still delicious. The poblano potatoes are fantastic, the creamed corn with bacon was good. It was my first time, can’t wait to dine here again.

Husband took me here for Christmas Eve Birthday. I had Crab Bisque, Lobster tails, mash potatoes and asparagus. Husband had homemade chips with Blue Cheese Sauce, Steak and Cream Corn with Bacon. One word- Aaaamazing! Cocktails were delicious, as well. Ambiance and Service are excellent. Hoping, we go back Valentine's Day.💕

This is one of the best restaurants in St. Louis in my view. Went here for our anniversary last year and it might have been the best meal I've ever had. I had steak and lobster, which was fantastic. Perfectly prepared. The scalloped potatoes were too-die for. The service was exceptionally professional and friendly. You pay for it but it is worth the money for a special occasion. I cannot wait to go back.

While I haven't had the chance to dine in the physical restaurant due to busy schedules, I've ordered takeout approximately 20 times this year, and each time has been perfect. Whether it's rib-eye, caesar salad, or dessert, everything is consistently excellent. If the takeout is this impressive, I can only imagine how wonderful the dining experience must be.

Ayyyyeeeee, I just knew when I saw 4.7stars I should expect an exceptional experience, but when I say the staff here overly exceeded my expectations!!! I'd like to personally thank our server Sarah(I believe that was her name, my Moscow Mules were strong&AMAZING 🤣🤣)bc not only did she make our first time here more memorable by how engaging she was with my guest, but how knowledgeable she was of the menu- The way she described the special to us literally made me drool, lolbvs...The food was amazing btw and even when my friend's medium well steak was medium rare, the issue was rectified-besides helping me capture a 1x moment for my husband's bday, we were shocked that by the time we left the establishment was closed. We never felt rushed and they never bothered us-superb service you guys!!

I took my cousin here for her 28th birthday and the service was everything. Chloe was a professional and very attentive server. The service she gave us was phenomenal and she even gave my cousin a free dessert for her birthday. The food was everything too. We left so full and satisfied.

Excellent higher end steak and seafood restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation as they fill up quickly, otherwise the wait can be long. Steaks were cooked exactly to specification and the fish was flavorful with a balanced amount of seasoning. Sides really shined with the Creamed Corn with Bacon being an exceptional standout!

This was a perfect experiencen for my me and my wife. High class food and presentation, reasonably priced, comfotable atmosphere. Every item we recieved was delicions... drinks, steaks, crab cakes, all the sides and deserts will spot on.

Our server Monica was amazing. She is a great asset to the restaurant/company. I wish there were more like her. 👍 She was so refreshing. I really enjoyed her. Me and my hunny really enjoyed her as well as the ambiance of the restaurant. We will be back.

This place is awesome! The staff is very helpful if you don't know what cut of meat to choose. Everything I've ever had here is delicious. Not only will you get a great steak, but the sides are (sometimes) even better! You will not be disappointed!

Chloe was our waitress and I'm sorry she looked to be married, because she was an absolute sweetheart and made my night. Now about the restaurant, they were confident AF serving my 6oz. Filet with no steak knife, and with good reason, because i DIDN'T NEED ONE. Yes, it was cooked perfectly, exactly medium as I ordered, delicious, and cut really easily with the butter knife. Chloe laughed and brought me a steak knife, but I never touched it. Great job J Gilberts, and Chloe, if that husband doesn't treat you right, this old man will be happy to
