I love the support I have received from Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery & Bariatric Care.

I decided to work with the dietitian, Lori and nurse practitioner Elisabeth first to see if I could lose weight before deciding to have surgery. I have tried weight loss several times on my own without any luck until now. This is honestly the greatest support group to have at your side.

The dietitian is educating me on proper nutrition, good food choices vs bad. Teaching me to be successful for life. One thing I love the most about her is she takes the time to ask questions about my food choices between visits. If I picked something that wasn’t the best choice she will explain why it is not the best choice, she will help me find-something to replace it with and she will explain why it is a better choice. I now look at nutrition labels with a better understanding of how to read them, what to look for when picking foods. I still make mistakes but she is there to guide me, teach me. The dietitian has never made me feel bad because of a mistake, no matter how many times I may ask the same question during each visit. I look forward to our visits, getting on the scale and her cheering me on.

The nurse practitioner has been wonderful to work with also. I never feel rushed, she takes the time to ask questions and to answer mine. If I needed help she is always quick to respond.

Without the help of the dietitian and nurse practitioner I’m not sure I would’ve been so successful to date. I have more weight to lose but I am confident that I am being set up for success the rest of my life.

I am writing this to help anyone who is seriously struggling to lose weight. Do not hesitate to contact Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery & Bariatric Care. Find what options would be the best for you. It may take time to schedule your first appointment but it is worth it. It takes hard work and dedication but you will have an awesome team of professionals to lead you on the correct path.

Thank you for all your support so far, I will see you on my next appointment.

The staff is great. I truly felt like they had my best health interest first and foremost in their minds. I have lost over 230 lbs since I started going there in April 2017. Everyone is super nice, and I dont think I have ever had to wait past my appt time to actually see someone. I have always been taken early. Very nice when trying to schedule multiple appts in 1 day or get the appt in before heading to work.

Had lapband put in my a different facility with no guidance or assistance before or after surgery. Decided to try Loyola and found out my lapband had slipped. Went in to have gastric bypass and the additional help with the nutritionist and doctors has been great. Very caring and always there to help. Would highly recommend!

Great attentive staff but try and schedule appointments after 10 and before 3 as the area traffic is terrible during rush hour!

Let me start by saying prior to writing this review I attempted to contact the doctor, the Digestive Director: Kim and patients relations. The surgeon screamed at me, after leaving 3 messages over a period of a week, the director never contacted me and after leaving messages for patient relations, they too ignored my request to be contacted (so should they respond please contact us - I already did and you should be proactive not reactive).

My surgeon has repeatedly refused my request to be contacted via the portal due to being hearing impaired. He actually started yelling at me on the phone todaybc he thought that "would help" in my understanding him (raising your voice DOES NOT HELP communicate with the hearing impaired and they are federally required to accommodate the way I request to communicate).

The hospital had no idea I was supposed to be outpatient and refused to listen to anything I had to say until the doctor got there. His response was to threaten to cancel my surgery bc I was advocating for myself.

The surgeon asked me how much protein I was supposed to have - I told him 100 g - he admonished me and told me 60 - I confirmed with the nutritionist it was 100.

He refused to believe the recovery room staff that i was doibg beyond good and could go home. He kept me until after his last surgery (mine was at 8am this was 5 pm) and i almost lost my ride home.

Even though I informed him I was taking a medical transportation company home weeks in advance - the day of surgety he thoight i was lying and wouldn't start surgery until they could confirm (I tried giving many different people at Loyola the info weeks ahead of time and they said there was no need).

The staff fot snarky when I asked what medication they were giving me.

I could easily go on

It was an awful experience not only as a disabled individual, but a person who is well prepared and advocates for themselves.

The staff in the office is great. As for the doctor and RN on staff, I have never been made to feel more awful. RN returns messages for the DR but doesn't actually read anything or answer what was asked. Doctor had my medical history mixed up with my dead sisters. Also when asking medicine questions he said, "It's not like I am suppose to remember every patient for the rest of my life." Never experienced such awful doctors who are suppose to be in a line of compassion especially when dealing with weight issues. Also weight for a dietitian is 4 months longer than the doctor and extremely limited hours and days. Took almost 5 month to get the initial appointment.
