First Evangelical Free Church of Chicago

I've been attending 1st Free for 8 years, and there's been a great feeling of warmth, support, and community that keeps me here. I was initially drawn to the children and youth programs, and the openness the church showed towards creativity and the arts, and I have enjoyed getting involved with the band and the visual arts program. I like the intelligent but relevant preaching, and I appreciate the priority to make the church a safe, meaningful space for all, including people who have been hurt, mistreated, or not welcomed by the church and religion.

A humble place with genuine, caring people. Seeking to be welcoming to all and to care for the vulnerable in our world. It’s a sanctuary for artists and creatives. Good for families also.

I have been attending this church for about a year. I really love the messages, Pastor Matt has a very revenant and authentic preaching style, he makes the Bible more understandable. There are also a wide variety of guest speakers that lend diverse views to the pulpit. It has been my experience in this congregation that your presence and voice are appreciated. Being a part of this helps me with introspection, awareness of the world around me, as well as personal growth. Plus there is a good band!

We have been at First Free for several years and have always appreciated the engaging and warm children's and youth ministries. We are inspired by Pastor Matt's preaching and love the inclusion of the arts and engagement with the community. We've been grateful for a variety of ways to serve and for the church's focus on God's love.

I have attended this church for over 20yrs. Like any church it has had its ups and downs but First Free continues to be a place of acceptance & inclusion, an active participant in community events and eager to lend a hand to local businesses when a hand reaches out. A very strong, active congregation for a smaller one, with LOTS of children and many opportunities to serve in ministry or get involved in a small group if you're looking to find a more intimate group for fellowship.

I have been attending this church in the heart of Andersonville, Chicago for over five years. The main reason that kept me at this church was the genuine welcome and desire to know me from the church community. I was invited to join a small group shortly after attending and that made all of the difference.

The worship environment (music, message, and fellowship) certainly draws me closer to God and in turn challenges me to live my daily life in such a way that brings glory and honor to my Lord and Savior.
