Barrel + Rye

Visited on a Saturday morning, got there just after opening. We started with drinks, I had mine and tried my husband’s and both were very good. Then I got the birria grilled cheese and it even came with a good helping of consume. It was so good I finished the whole thing. Meat was melt in your mouth tender. We felt the price was very reasonable for the high quality of food.

The service really stands out at this cozy little place! The menu is on the smaller side but my goodness everything we tried was done to perfection! I had the peach sangria which was presented nicely in a fun glass and with a peach ring gummy garnish. We started with the Buffalo chips (see photo) and they were loaded with perfectly cooked bacon and tons of blue cheese. I had the gnocchi that was recently added to the menu and it was beyond my wildest dreams. Perfect little pockets of heaven that were browned in sage butter and served with butternut squash, beet chips and sunflower seeds! Husband had the chili which had huge pieces of steak in it! I have previously had the Brie burger and salmon salad and it had all been delightful!

Small restaurant with a dark, moody vibe that offers great drinks, food, and service. Been here twice and both times were enjoyable and the food is definitely memorable.

Wings- maple bourbon dry rub with the good ranch and homemade blue cheese dressing these are a must
Brussel sprout salad- fresh and the acv dressing me feel better about myself before we consumed all the delectable food we ordered.
Brie burger with seasoned fries- pairs good with the multiple cocktails I am sure you will order here.
Grits- I didn't even know I liked them until now
Chicken Shawarma Sandwich- I knew there was a reason I kept seeing everyone order this. It's amazing. How do they make better shawarma than most shawarma places around here?!
Birria grilled cheese- good but the wings and shawarma have my heart.

Seriously you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't try these things at least once if you come here. Personally, I would recommend the wings, brie burger, and chicken shawarma sandwich. Legit I still think about them and it's been a month since we have been there. Oh, and the fries as a side .. just get them your stomach will thank you later

Highly recommend for a fun night out with friends! Poutine was sooo good, crab cake sandwich was yummy, and the fries were amazing! Great Old Fashioneds too!

Love the burgers and the atmosphere. Came I. December and their themed cocktails are delicious. And fun names as well! This one is “All The Jingle Ladies”

Five stars for every category!! A friend and I were in Geneva today to wander the shops and explore and we stumbled upon Barrel and Rye for lunch. Considering the cold, snowy day, it was so pleasant to walk in and instantly feel warm and cozy. There were no tables available, but we couldn't have been happier with grabbing two seats at the bar. I had the tuna tartare and my friend had a burger and both were absolutely fantastic. Their fries are UNBELIEVABLE...so wonderfully salty and seasoned (their truffle fries were equally as wonderful). Definitely stop by next time you're in town! Very interesting and fun menu and fair prices, too. We did not have an alcoholic beverages, but every drink I saw that bartender make looked delicious, so I'm sure they are all fantastic. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area :)

Had a great experience here. Went out with a few friends for a 30th and had a magnificent time! Great food and drinks! I got the salmon, fiancé the poke bowl, friend cup of brisket chili and other friends a steak and southern chicken sandwich. As always check out the pictures!

Oh my goodness! I tried the gnocchi! Incredible! Best gnocchi I have ever had. Best service! My son got the steak frites. Incredible atmosphere. This is a must! Incredible food. Everything is so fresh.

I recently visited Barrel + Rye, located in Geneva IL, and was blown away by their exceptional drinks and delicious food. We started with the Barrel old fashioned and Barrel sazerac, which were outstanding and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of bourbon.

For appetizers, we ordered the Burrata+ figs served with toast points and the chicken wings with honey habanero rub and Nashville hot. The Burrata+ figs were a delightful combination of flavors, but unfortunately, the chicken wings were just okay.

Moving on to the main course, we ordered the shrimp and grits which were cooked to perfection. The shrimp had a delightful texture and the grits had a brown butter sauce that was bursting with flavor. We also tried the Brie burger with fries. The fries were fresh and crispy, but the burger was a bit too sweet for our liking due to the grilled onions.

Overall, our experience at Barrel + Rye was exceptional. The drinks were on point, the shrimp and grits were excellent, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Although the chicken wings and Brie burger didn't quite meet our expectations, we would still recommend Barrel + Rye for a great night out.

The food here was really good, we started the night with some maple bourbon wings. They were really good but almost had a chocolate flavor.

Our burgers were both amazing! If you’re looking for a great date night this is a good spot! Expect it to be about $100 for two, but it’s good food for sure!

This is one of my all-time favorites in the Geneva area.

The Bri Cheese Curds never disappoint! We also ordered the Zucchini and we were pleased. The presentation and flavor is perfect. This might be the best tomato bisque in the area as well. But the best and my favorite is the Stout Brownie. Do not skip dessert. Go ahead and order that first. I promise you won't regret it.

Service is excellent and attentive. The atmosphere is warm with tvs for sporting events and a whisky list of everything you could imagine! Highly recommend an old fashioned.

Love this place! One of my favorite places in Geneva. The food is delicious, good variety of cocktails and bourbon, and the service has always been great. Definitely one of my recommendations for a special dinner. Be sure to have a reservation or come at a non-peak hour, otherwise the wait could get long.

Strolled in here after a massage on a snowy Saturday afternoon. Having never been here before, was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful ambience of this little quaint bar and American bistro located in downtown Geneva. We ordered sandwiches and were nothing short of amazed . The food was spectacular and the homemade fries were delivered to perfection. Highly recommended.

Barrel and rye had some of the best food Ive had around town. The salmon bruschetta was a perfect starter followed by the b and r salad. Cute atmosphere and great cocktails. It was a bit dark in lighting and not a large number of tables so you might have to sit at a high top, just beware of those things. All around great place!

Met my friend here for a bite and a drink. The place had a nice , established bar feel, with a calm vibe. I ordered the philly pork sandwich, with a side of Mac and cheese. The sandwich was very unique, tender and tasted great. I was impressed by their combination of great location, great food, friendly service and ambiance. I will return.

I’ve been here about 5 times. Mostly for a afternoon lunch. The burgers are good and juicy. The old fashions are very good and priced accordingly! Whiskey flights are good as well. The staff are very knowledgeable about the whiskey and the bartenders make good drinks. The only downside, the interior is small. When it gets busy there is limited seating. Other than that it’s a 10/10 for me.

We placed an order recently for 8 different people. All orders were correct and no complaints! Everything was delicious and the staff even helped me out to the car with my order. Most everyone raved about their burgers but I had the birria grilled cheese special with truffle fries and it was fabulous. Can’t wait to go back and dine in!
