Great bookstore. Staff is beyond helpful . The books are varied, and authors are too. And, if they don't have what you are looking for, they will get it for you. This local gem is worth a visit!

My husband grew up in Topsham and graduated from Brunswick HS in 1965. We will celebrate our 45rh wedding anniversary this fall. Gulf of Maine Books has been our essential stop for decades. Books for us, for our son when he was a child, and now for our granddaughters. Two of the three chose their own book(s) this year, and our 7 year old lover of all creatures great and small was thrilled to see photos of your donkeys. Our youngest at one year old is enjoying the books previously chosen by her sisters. Shop local and bring your children when they are young! It is amazing what you and they can find!

What a great bookstore? Gary Lawless works very hard for his customers, offering advice and contacts to readers and writers alike. He and his wife know books inside and out, and are offering personal service you won't get from Amazon.

I like Gulf of Maine books: the atmosphere is cozy and the conversation is fascinating. The proprietors know exactly what book I mean when I call with an inquiry; if they don’t have the book, they’ ll order it. Gary Lawless and Beth (her surname escapes me) are the highly literate proprietors. There is a great assortment of current to classical titles on the shelves.
Highly recommend this long established book store.

Responsive. Knowledgeable. Passionate. Gulf of Maine has an incredible selection of books to connect you with most inspiring material you can hope for. All about your world. All about Maine. Still going strong after decades. Exemplifies the strengths of independent bookstores.

Brunswick is lucky to have a print bookstore in the town center. You always meet interesting people at the store, and the selection of books and magazines lends itself readily to browsing. The owners have great knowledge and an affable manner. I look forward to shopping here more. Gulf of Maine Books is a Brunswick treasure.

Great little bookstore with lots of choices for a 10 year old reader and for everyone else as well. The couple that owns the shop always seem to become engaged in conversation with every customer, and that continues through the whole time they're checking out. And then the next conversation with the next customer. And then you get your turn to chat with them, or continue a conversation that started earlier.

You have to admire a bookstore that has survived the existence of Amazon. If you find yourself in Brunswick, ME, stop in and buy that book you've been meaning to order, or pick up a couple that you didn't know about. And take your turn speaking to some real people.

This intimate, well-stocked independent bookstore is a community treasure and a find for visiting booklovers. Beth and Gary (well-known local poet) are not only welcoming and extremely well-versed about books, but they're also both informed and supportive of matters close to home and have a wider perspective from their travels and network of literary colleagues. They carry an excellent selection of current fiction and poetry and books on the environment and Maine, as well as a strong children's section and an unexpectedly deep backlist of paperback fiction, considering the cozy confines of the space. They often offer signed first editions of new novels by local authors and even those further afield, which is a bonus. In addition, there's a wonderful selection of cards and calendars.

Staff were very helpful. Even though the books I was looking for weren't something they usually carry, they were able to order them in for me. I paid a little more than if I had just bought the books online, but totally worth it. Support your local book shops, they need our help right now. 10/10 will be going back for my next purchase!

Love the hodgepodge collection! It feels like what my living room would be like if I could afford more books. I try my best to support locally owned businesses, and this one is a gem.

A great little bookstore with a thoughtfully curated selection. It is tight inside which is part of its charm but wouldn't be recommended for large groups. You're sure to find some unexpected gems when you visit.

I've lived in town over half the time they've been open and have rarely taken the time to visit. Today I learned what I've been missing out on all these years... A lovely and well-stocked bookstore with a witty and very personable owner full of interesting stories.

It's my favorite kind of book store. Think-shop around the corner tripled in size and subject matter.

I could easily spend all day and a small fortune lost in the aisles.

This is one of my favorite bookstores in the world. The number of titles is remarkable, and the staff knows just where to find them. Cards, bumper stickers......plan for an extended visit.
