Stayed in a corner room w/ private bath and partial ocean view. It's a rustic inn with all the historic charm that comes with. Having said, our room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for an island stay. Dinner and breakfast in the dining room were both excellent! Dinner had many seafood plates as well as other options. Breakfast had several standard pancake/egg/etc. options along with a fruit, bread, etc. buffet. Staff at hotel was all lovely and very helpful. Can't beat the location right off the ferry entrance and lovely view off the porch. Would highly recommend for your stay on the island.

It is on an island, which is 2-3 hours away from the mainland and cars. You could only come over on a boat, which runs once per day. So you could not expect to have a Hilton. The rooms are clean and small. But it is cozy and very cultural specific for the island. We stayed at Pierce Cottage which gave us a little more room and privacy. There are dirt or pebble paths between the cottages and the main building. Nobody is here for luxury or comfort. We want to walk the trail and look at the ocean. It is a beautiful place with unique characteristics.

Rooms were great, we stayed in one of the cottages and it was cozy despite it pouring constantly for our first day. They are all so amazing here and the dinners are incredible. Some of the best seafood I've ever had. Everyone who worked here that we talked to was super nice and accommodating. I would definitely recommend if you're coming to Monhegan

Our stay of 4 nights was excellent. The service, food and views from the porch were tremendous. We had dinner every night at the Inn and enjoyed a menu of deliciously composed meals that perfectly used the ingredients that make Maine so special. Breakfasts are included in cost of room and more than fortified one for a day of hiking. This was our first visit and we met so many people who return summer after summer. One couple had come the first time on their Honeymoon 55 years ago and they continue to come back. That is a better recommendation than anything I could say!

My husband, Nick Papouchis, and I started coming to the Inn a decade ago or more; we stayed for a few days, then more. Now our sons, their wives and our two grandchildren come for a long week For all of us, it is perfect. The Inn, the food, the porch, the quiet, the views, the trails, Artists, Cathedral woods, The Brewery. Our grandchildren on two coasts are now preparing for the Jamboree! And to greet us, Jennifer Marr at the front desk. Warm, competent, and always patient.

This will be our 5th year at Island Inn. Actually stay in the Pierce Cottage overlooking the meadow and the lighthouse. We enjoy that porch and the main porch. Incredible. The staff are super friendly. We stay for a week and enjoy everything on the menu. The chefs are amazing. The menu is not pricy. You're in a 4-star restaurant on an island. It's all amazing.
For the few negative reviews I noticed- really? Do us all a favor and stay on the mainland and enjoy your Holiday Inn.
The Island keeps you busy. If you like to paint or sketch, you'll be in heaven. Great challenging well-marked trails and don't miss the brewery! Relax and enjoy. The island inn makes it easy.

What an amazing, historical place to stay and dine. The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the food is so delicious! Everything from the Lobster Scrambled eggs to the Filet Mignon with Lobster Tail is mouth watering and well worth the trip for that alone. I couldn't ask for a better place to stay while exploring the Trails, looking for Faery houses and just reconnecting with the sound of the waves on the rocks. I highly reccommend this place. Don't forget to walk up to the brewery for some great beer!!

We had an amazing weekend. the employees at the inn are all so kind and helpful (especially Jennifer at the front desk) and the two waiters at the restaurant were awesome. Joshua and another gentleman waited on us for every meal we had and we saw them gracefully handle difficult customers and do an amazing job serving everyone their delicious food. The Halibut was the best and desserts were amazing. Breakfast was also great to have before hiking the island. FYI mask wearing is strictly enforced on the Island. Even so, it was well worth the trip and the Inn did the best they could during this time.

This was our second visit, with a span of probably 10 years in between. Monhegan Island is a delight, and staying at the Island Inn just ties it all together. The rooms are what you would expect of an inn with so much history - perfect for us, although you might find them wanting if you are a 5 star hotel addict. Friendly staff manage the luggage and check in well, reminding us to wear masks and keep our distance, as it should be. The dinner was wonderful - we began with a risotto that would grace any table I have enjoyed in the last decade. Then baked haddock crusted with nuts, a favorite of mine. We ended with a blueberry dessert and one of dark chocolate, both lovely to behold and to eat. It's BYOB so no excuse for not having a decent bottle of wine! Breakfast the next morning is worth the trip with all kinds of great foods to tempt you and to send you out to the hiking trails. With wonderful views on all sides and total serenity in this beautiful spot, I can only say we will return, and sooner than 10 years.

I had dinner both at the Island Inn and at Monhegan House. My experience at the Inn was, by far, much, much better than at Monhegan House. This is not to discredit the food at Monhegan House: their food is good quality, though they try to offer Italian dishes (which I tried): in my opinion, they should stick to what they know best, which is North-American style fish. At the Inn we had salad, muscles, swordfish and halibut. They were all excellent, both the quality of the fish and the dish preparation. Our waiter was really good as well. I highly recommend.

This place was unique. We had lunch here and I was surprised how much cares was taken in food preparation. Yes they have some standards for kids, but they have some items that were just seriously delicious. The clam chowder was amazing. Cream based but not thick, the right blend or broth. The seasoning was obviously fresh to order and the veg and clams cooked perfect. I also had the fish tacos, the creme fresh dressing was perfect, not over powering or bland, delicious and fresh. My son had the club sandwich, he said it was great as well. The inn was well kept with art work and comfort. They do a great job here to keep a Maine island feel. Stay a night or two and hike the island, you won't regret it.

We stayed here in September and it was delightful. This whole village is like being in an Andrew Wyeth painting! The Island Inn is classic Maine in every way. The hospitality was warm and the food was delicious. We rented a room on the third floor in September and didn't see many folks up there so it was pretty private. Cannot wait to go back!

I got married here 11 yrs ago and yesterday we renewed our vows here at the same spot overlooking the water, followed by a delicious meal with friends! Our server Raddick was courteous and professional. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the dining room was exceptionally decorated with beautiful paintings, and the food was delicious! We love it here and recommend it highly!

One of the nicest hotels that I have ever vacationed at! My wife and I had a room on the second floor with a private bath. Very clean accommodations with a very friendly staff! The complimentary breakfast was second to none! Loved sitting out on the front porch in their rocking chairs. Can't wait to go back next year!

Arriving on Monhegan Island by the Elizabeth Ann from Port Clyde was the beginning of two incredible days. Our luggage was delivered to our room on the 3rd floor, corner room, overlooking the wharf. A seaside view from our bed! The room was simple and cozy; nothing more was needed after a day of hiking the incredible trails and picnicking on the rocks near the crashing waves. The rockers and Adirondacks were the perfect place to kick back and watch the sail boats. Breakfast was fresh and satisfying. Cannot wait to return to this rugged and serene place.

Rooms are light and airy (especially the queen room with deck facing the harbor). Service is outstanding. Local art always present. The island is a small and delicate ecosystem so always think conservation when you travel there, but go, tread lightly and relax.

Very relaxed atmosphere. Definitely an early-to-bed crowd. The concierge staff was friendly and kind. Dinner at the restaurant was affordable and tasty. It's a great hotel with a lot of charm and character.

If you want to spend the night on Monhegan, this is THE place to stay. Staying here is like living in a postcard from a bygone era. The dinner was great, and the view from the porch is legendary. The rooms were nice and the shared bathrooms should not be a deterrent.

Beautiful and charming old inn. It was as if I had stepped a hundred years back into a well kept piece of history! I loved my meal there as I waited for the ferry to bring me back to reality. Don't miss visiting here when you go to Monhegan Island.
