Does any military history guy know about what the large rock structure on the backside of the hill is? The Crosses did not build it. I think it's a revolutionary war redoubt. The remains if the revolution are all around us... more than we know

A nice moderate hike with well marked trails.

I visited this place today. This is one the beautiful place I have seen around Morristown. When I first entered visiting area, to my surprise I see no one despite it was weekend. I guess I was the only person who visited this place on that day. I would not recommend to take kids for hiking at this place. It's very beautiful and has great history. There are other parks around this area and you can find trails connecting to other areas. But I had a very bad experience while returning back. I think it was 5:30pm, sunny and I encountered two bears. That was the most frightening moment and this is the first time I have encountered wild animals. I some how managed to escape. It would have been better if the park authorities would have cautioned travelers. I would suggest to watch your surroundings while hiking.

Patriots path runs through and there is a great setting of gardens, Cross Estate Gardens to visit, maybe even a lunch spot.

Part of Jockey Hollow National Historic Park (but across the street from the bulk of the Park) the New Jersey Brigade Area features two attractions. The NJ Brigade's area is the site where the NJ Revolutionary War soldiers encamped during the 1779-80 winter. There are few evidences of the Brigade there. To get a better idea of Revolutionary War conditions, visit recreated soldier huts across the street in the main part of Jockey Hollow.

The other feature is the Cross Estate. What was once a private home features amazing gardens tended by volunteers. The estate also includes a stately home and a remarkable water tower.

The path to the NJ Brigade site is generally overgrown and in NJ looks like a place where ticks roam free. As of the writing of this review, the Cross Estate is available to walk around but the gardens are closed, presumably a pandemic precaution. Check the website before visiting this part of Jockey Hollow National Historic Park.

Lots of options. Hike on the trails of Jockey Hollow, walk over to visit Cross Gardens (Mansion closed due to COVID?) or wander over to the Audubon Society grounds. This area needs access to the main parts of Jockey Hollow through a bridge, I saw a sign indicating the bridge is closed due to construction. Maybe next time.

Its got a nice parking lot, nice variety of terrian, dog friendly, bike friendly, and has some nice sites closes the beginning. Downsides, no bathroom (which is typical) and more importantly the map is useless. It only shows the main trail. That would be fine if it was obvious when your on it. Decent navigation skills or a lot of extra time recomended.

Great park and beautiful setting but people often walk large dogs off leash...there have been attacks.
