Pop's Place

Recently had the chance to stop in to Pop’s Place in Rockaway, NJ with some foodie buddies for what ended up being an epic sampling session. Breakfast, lunch, dessert…we had it all. I’ll say one thing right off the jump, Pop’s has some of the nicest and helpful staff I’ve come in contact with, which always makes the experience just that much better.

Started off with a couple breakfast items and tried out “The Breakfast Bomb” and some Jersey Meat, Egg, and cheese sliders (I refuse to debate whether it’s pork roll or Taylor ham…Jersey Meat it is.). The breakfast bomb was delicious. How can you not love the combo of sausage, bacon, and Jersey meat all backed into one sandwich with egg and cheese? It’s physically impossible. And as good as that was, if you remove the bacon/sausage, those sliders were still excellent on their own. I’d order either of these items for breakfast without even blinking twice.

Now we get into some doggies!! I’ve grown fond of the dogs on my travels because it’s how I really got into blogging in the first place. It was something easy that I knew my kids would eat (at the time they were super picky) so I started trying them out all over. With that said, the all the way dog here with the chili, onion, and mustard is one of the best I’ve had. The chili sauce here is meaty, has a lot of flavor, they put plenty of it, and it looks appealing. At nearly every place I get an all the way, at least one of those four things to hit on is missing. Not at Pop’s.

The Chicago dog simply cannot be slept on either. It doesn’t have the trademark “bright green relish”, but it doesn’t need it. The flavor is spot on, and I mean spot on. This is better than some of the Chicago dogs I’ve had … in Chicago. If these toppings fall in your wheelhouse of enjoyment, it’s worth a look. The Italian Dog was also a treat. There is a constant debate over what type of roll and what type of potatoes to use for these so you’re never going to be able to please everyone on this item if you’re a restaurant. I found this to be a good dog, regardless of preferences on those items.

Closed out with a killer vanilla shake that I finished before anyone else was even halfway through theirs. If you know me, you know that’s a big statement because I’m really not into sweets like that typically, I’m more of a savory guy. This shake had excellent flavor and viscosity though and was topped with fresh real whipped cream and sprinkles. It honestly was a real treat.

The only other important thing to note (aside from it being outrageously easy to get to, it’s right on the highway), is that they have created a dining area suited for all weather conditions. It is enclosed with heaters for the winter time and they can roll down the windows for nicer weather. There is also an outdoor seating area you can use.

Fun little roadside spot. Came here for the hot dogs and they did not disappoint. Hot onions are a must have. Got a regular dog, Texas and a Chicago dog. The Texas dog was the star of the show. Super balanced and just the right amount of messy. The Chicago dog had a bit too much bread for me. Seemed like it was put on a long roll and it was kind of hard. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The place was clean and the food came out quick. Glad I stopped in and got their special of getting the third dog free after buying two.

My boyfriend and I tried this place out for the first time and really enjoyed ourselves. The owner and staff were super helpful and friendly, my boyfriend got the breakfast bomb and I got the pork roll egg and cheese sandwich with fries. Everything was. Delicious and cooked to perfection, would definitely go back. Ppst also their house sauce is DELICIOUS!

WOW! I wish I would’ve checked out this place sooner. This breakfast combo was amazing. I highly recommend and I will definitely be going back! Not sure if it was the owner who I spoke to when picking up my order but definitely seems like a great guy/worker!! Can’t wait to try some more food from Pop’s Place!!

Honestly I've been driving past the place for 2 or 3 years stopped in for breakfast and honestly I've never been more happy. The environment's fantastic the staff is fantastic (the mamis in the kitchen know how to cook) the food was fantastic and most of all the owner Freddy is an All-American working man who's brought a fantastic establishment to the front. If you're in the area or you're just passing by I suggest stopping in it's well worth it. I will be back with the wife and kids on a regular basis. Thank you

Food was great and good portions. I got the Texas Dog box with cheese fries and my boyfriend got the double smash burger. Both were so yummy. The burger was huge and so good he brought one home for my son.
Service was great the young man working the register was shy and soft spoken but super nice and made sure to give us our options and repeat our order for accuracy.
The eating area is a closed porch like area. It was cold and rainy outside but the porch was pleasantly warm and dry.

Great customer service, great food, great atmosphere! Very welcoming place for both newcomers and locals and the family running it cares for the community. Would love to come back during our next trip!

Got all the feel of a roadside stand. Great food and nice people. Sliders, hot dogs, chicken, fries, shakes...

Oh WOW!! Let me just say it is so hard to find anything small or large that is reasonably priced, and tastes good. This place is a beautiful mixture of both the food comes in generous portions and is super easy on the wallet. They just began doing breakfast opening at 7 a.m and The Biscuits and Gravy (while probably not the healthiest) are hearty and filling and rich and come with a free coffee or drink of choice and home fries if you choose the combo. All together that costs about $7.75, without the homefries $3.75. This place is an absolute must stop if you craving some fast delicious food on the cheap. 10/10 will most definitely eat again.

This place is 100% worth coming to the burger is amazing. Had to order a double burger to go. Will definitely tell everyone about this place. The owner made sure everything was perfect and the staff very friendly.

Really good food. Nostalgic atmosphere. Sliders were awesome. Similar to a White Manna burger, with better flavor. Fries were crispy. Overall great food! I like the Stewart’s root beers being available. You feel like you went in a time machine eating here!

Superb spot for fried chicken, dogs, sliders and shakes. The owner-cousins are a refreshing delight - friendly, conversational and eager to please. If you stop in try the fried chicken sandwich with bacon and Swiss or a chili dog with a strawberry custard shake. All delicious and come out in less than a few minutes. I’m rooting for this place to continue to succeed mainly for the wonderful owners and the delicious food. I plan to be back again soon.

Recently moved to the area and Pop's Place came up on a "NJ Sandwich Joint" Facebook Group I am in. I decided to stop by yesterday morning to pick up their "Pops Breakfast Bomb" for myself and my brothers. What a breakfast sandwich it is, perfect ratio of meat, egg and cheese. The brioche might be the best part, perfect vehicle to carry everything on this sandwich. I met the owner Jerry, who was very kind, and offered me a cup of coffee while I waited for my food.

I decided to swing back again today to try their hot dogs and a cheese slider. As expected, equally as good as their breakfast! Ran into Jerry again who remembered me and said hello. The places you can go into and get that type of exchange and experience are dwindling. Not to mention, it's very reasonably priced compared to similar options in the area. Pop's Place is a great spot and I couldn't recommend it enough!

First time trying Pop’s today and was not disappointed! I regret not trying this place sooner as I pass it often. Me and my family ordered from the breakfast menu. Large portions and delicious food! Very cute, inviting atmosphere. Will definetly be our new spot! Excited to go back soon and order from the lunch menu!!

Scouting Burgers for Scary Good Eats on the Food Network App. This is the former location of the Stewart's that was here for many decades. They did a great job of transforming the building and updating the menu with the new Pops Burgers and Hot Dogs. I was only able to sample the sliders here which were fantastic. Great flavor with onions and pickles on a potato bun. Perfect size and price point. Cannot wait to try the other items on the menu. It was very good. The people were super nice and worked hard to get the made to order items out quickly. Looking forward to my next visit.

Excellent flavors. Probably the best Texas style dog I have had. Kids enjoyed the sliders. Excellent fries and great dipping sauce. Immaculately clean bathroom, friendly staff. I've been back a few times and looking forward to my next visit!

Sliders are very good. Larger and meatier than white castle. Fries are good. I like them a little crisper though. Chicken nuggets are larger than average too. Took them 15 minutes to prepare my sliders. But you know they are fresh.

My third time in a row, really liked this place for quickly lunch, really tasty, juicy, not expensive, nice quality and they are very nice with us.
My favorite atm is the Double bacon classic box with onions rings!
Really recommend guys!
