Very cool to visit this historical landmark on the property of Barboursville Vineyard. Would love to learn more about the history and what it used to look like before the Christmas Day 1884 fire.

Why would this place not get 5 stars? It’s free, well maintained and free. Good views. Ruins are cool. Not much to see but perfect to grab a glass or bottle of win and come hang out.

We stayed at the 1804 Inn in the Philéo Suite. Everything was luxurious and appointed for the time period. The views, history and story were all explained in depth to help understand the significance of the property. I recommend a tasting. Even if you think you're not a wine person there are SO MANY delicious flavors you can find something to love!! The food was sumptuous. The staff extremely helpful and incredibly friendly!! We were here for our 10th wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint!!

Intesesting for history and architecture buffs. Designed by Thomas Jefferson for the Governor of Virginia James Barbour. Location at a winery was a bonus.

Beautiful ruins with a unique history in the mountains of Virginia. Near a winery as well! We went to the ruins in the wintertime but did not go to the winery but we will have to come back and visit again what a beautiful place.

Beautiful. There's benches where you can sit in the shades and take in the beautiful scenery. This closes at 5pm, so after that it's considered trespassing. You can view the vineyard that's not too far away from here. This ruin was burned down in 1805 and this is what's left. Not sure what else the sign says in the front but it's pretty interesting to look at.

Interesting historic ruins! Back in the day it was probably amazing. There are like 4 great architectural homes in this area that are impressive. Would be nice to have some tours for the histoey of the area...

Very impressive....makes one wonder what the mansion looked like prior to the fire.
The ruins have a security fence around it to protect the ruins and you

Love this house. Finally made a stop at the family cemetery. My only thing is I wished it was a little more history posted about the house.

Stunning and another building designed by Jefferson himself? Plus great Pinot with killer view same site at their vineyard? Not to be missed!

Interesting historical ruins. You can see some nice brick work. Would be neat if it was restored.
