I applied for SNAP/food stamps and Ms. Schuman contacted me directly to ask for my proof of income and my case was approved shortly after.

The reason I am giving this office a 5 star review, is not because I think everything is running as it needs to be.

I am giving the office 5 stars because I get the sense that at least some of the people working there are doing what they can.

It is my biased opinion, that the social services in this town are SEVERELY underfunded. We live in the rural south and this town is very heavily conservative. Social welfare programs are demonized, and it is in the interest of republicans for programs such as these to be understaffed and underfunded.

Do not blame the DFCS office. Blame your leaders and representatives for not actually being concerned about the welfare of those less fortunate.

I've had surprisingly good experiences with this office. I was warned that they never answer phones, but each time I've called they've answered the phone and given me the helpful info I needed. On visits to the office, I've occasionally had trouble with staff mistakenly giving me unnessecary paperwork (Ex: having me fill out the whole application packet again and marking that I was pregnant instead of just filling out the notice of pregnancy form) but it's always worked out in the end.

If you get all your documents in order before you go, birth certificate, social security card, proof of address, and 1 form of identification, there's no hassle. Even with a full office and delays they at least explain to you the issues.

Only problem I have is that they don't answer the phone as often as I would like. I barely have time to travel and sit in the office for hours for a simple question that can be answer with just one phone call.

I wish I could give negative stars! I’ve received welfare in two other states before, and never experienced anything as bad as this place. I did my renewal online in September, and then was told I didn’t do it and my family lost our food stamps. I had to reapply, which was in October. I turned in all required documents, and then it’s just been “in processing” ever since. I’ve gone into the office here multiple times, and am always met with attitude and disrespect. The front desk workers talk to you like you’re stupid, and never actually help. Case workers cannot be reached at all, ever. They won’t give out the supervisors phone number anymore because “they’re receiving too many calls to keep up with.” They’ll give you the email address, but of course that’s never actually responded to.

My family can barely put food on the table. As a mother, not being able to get certain foods for my daughter (she has sensory issues and is therefore a very picky eater) is the worst, most helpless feeling ever. My husband is trying to find new work because the guy he’s working for now isn’t paying him properly. I’m a full-time student, trying to get my degree so I can get a better career. I’ve lost over 25 lbs in just 2-3 months (I was already fairly small to begin with), just because I can’t afford to get enough food, and whatever I can get I make sure my family gets fed first.

I’ve emailed the governor and the senator about this issue. I honestly don’t know what else to do, and the whole issue has caused my husband and I to both go into such a deep depression.

They Never pick up the phone!! My case worker is Never available except through text when she feels like it. I spoke to her once in five damn years amd it was only through text, and wouldn't pick up when i tried to call the number. If you don't like to do your job, then go elsewhere and let someone else that can handle it do it. If I could give negative 0 stars I would

They are so unprofessional. They lack care for kids safety. My family and I have been calling numerous times in regards to my niece SERENITY GOLDEN and we have yet to hear anything from them. It’s really disappointing when you try to reach out and not even speak to anyone in regards to safety.
