Love having this place in the neighborhood. They are so knowledgeable about wine, but in a really friendly and personable way. They also have really fun tastings pretty much every Saturday. The people watching on the patio is also fun.

I stopped by to scope things out for my wife. Finally a wine store that's got more of a bar vibe than store vibe that also has some great choices by the glass. I had 2 tastings and enjoyed the gamay the most, though I certainly would knock down the white bordeaux for awhile in this heat--great prices and real wine in a nice atmosphere. The servers behind the bar were very nice and quick to help everyone. 5 stars.

These guys are so cool! Not only do they let dogs in, I feel like the workers here legimately want to get to know you and find you a good bottle of wine. My group accidentally stayed a little past their closing time (sorry!) and they were so chill about it and even chatted us up for the last little bit.

Louella is truly a neighborhood establishment. They have a small and kind staff. After a few visits they will know you like an old friend. It’s a homey and warm environment with an incredible selection of wine, a very good selection of beers and a few fun options of spritz, sangria and sake.
Their weekly free tastings are such a great way to learn about new varietals and regions of with wine world.
Recently they added boxed cheese and charcuterie plates, which is literally a perfect date night addition!
If you live in or are visiting Durham, Louella is a must!

I just popped in to buy a bottle of wine, but the service was amazing. The selection was great. The atmosphere was cozy. & the bottle I bought was sooo good.

I love LouElla’s. They are my go-to for discovering new exciting bottles. And the staff are very helpful in guiding you to something new that suits your taste. The free wine tastings are a staple, and I’d highly recommend going. The atmosphere is definitely slightly more upscale than a standard bar, but I quite enjoy that. My only quip is that the snacks are a bit pricey for the size you get. But I don’t really go there for the food, so I’m quite unfazed. The folks at LouElla have a put together a wonderful experience for wine lovers of any interest/ knowledge level, and a community has formed around that in a special way. Amazing people! They proactively helped me solve a problem yesterday. Excellent inventory including an active cellar. This biz is a can’t miss.

Recently visited on a lazy weekday afternoon and had a very nice experience. LouElla is a bar and a wine shop with some outdoor seating. Their selection and knowledge of wine (and beer; draft, bottle and can) is top notch. The staff was very friendly and helpful with some great suggestions. Got to meet the owner as well who was also very nice. The shop and bar space is open and relaxed.

Newly opened wine/beer bar and bottle shop in the quickly developing Geer St. row that includes boxcar, Hutchins garage, choice tattoo etc. (they’ve coined the phrase, “ink and drink” but never the other way round).
Daily drink specials in a bright, open space with lots of natural wood. Both wine and beer on tap with plans for small plate offerings to follow.

Wonderful wine selection, excellent service and our new neighborhood place to grab wine. You can enjoy a glass or bottle at the bar and bring in food from a local restaurant too. Or if you need a cold bottle of wine on the fly just stop by and they have you covered. Visit LouElla and experience it for yourself...Cheers!

We come here often because of the great selection and friendly, knowledgeable staff. It's our favorite spot to either enjoy wine in or to pick up a bottle for a gift. Selection represents various regions and prices ranges. The atmosphere is nice with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Our favorite is the free wine tastings; it's always a good selection with someone who is knowledgeable. Afterwards, we like to pick out a bottle from the tasting and enjoy it there, while ordering takeout.

A fantastic bar and bottle shop with extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. I’ve left here plenty of times with a new wine or vermouth etc that I would never have known about just by asking the staff. Great outdoor area to sit and sip some wine and gaze upon downtown durham as well!

This place is a perfect blend of bottle shop, bar, and neighborhood hang out. I love that they have a decent sake selection too. Folks that work there are super knowledgeable and friendly too

My only regret is not coming here sooner. Interesting, varied menu of “by the glass” wines. The selection feels crafted by wine people, for wine people— and yet it’s accessible to the more-casual enthusiast with zero snobbery in sight. I love that the bottle selection is heavy on $20ish picks, thoughtfully curated so that you could pretty much grab any bottle in the store and be confident that a) it’s reasonably priced and b) will be delicious. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and glad to chat, if you want to chat. I love LouElla. It’s the best wine shop in town and quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Durham.

Great place for wine, beer, sake, and mixers. Solid selection of NA drinks as well in a classy atmosphere. Also a great spot to hang out while your SO gets tattooed next door!

My two best friends, my 89 year old mother, and I were in Durham this past weekend to house and dog sit for one of my friend’s nieces and her partner. One of the ways they showed us their spirit of generosity was to leave their Aunt Tam a gift card to LouElla. What an experience! We tasted a little wine, visited and laughed with the owner, and enjoyed a light snack. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we had white glove service from (forgive me if I have his name wrong), Sergio when he helped us choose our purchases . We had a fabulous time and came home with a variety of wines to try and to gift to others. All the while, we were learning a little from our guide. We cannot wait to come back to Durham, and revisit this sweet little wine shop, its knowledgeable staff, and of course, Aunt Tam’s family! Thanks, Emily and Ashley! Great little spot. Stopped in for a bottle of wine to take home but couldn’t resist the charm so my husband and I also had two glasses at the bar. The bar tender and owner(?) made great suggestions. We took a bottle of German Riesling home. Great selection - it was hard to choose! We really enjoyed the laid back environment. Would definitely recommend!

Love this spot! Beautiful space, wonderful staff, very interesting wine selection. They're also dog-friendly which is a huge plus for me. The folks who work here are extremely kind, helpful, and knowledgeable about their offerings.
