We rode the scenic railroad from Cumberland to Frostburg. When we got off the train, The Trail Inn was right across the road. We ordered cheeseburgers, chips, canned soda and hand dipped ice cream. Friendly service and a serviceable meal for about $24 for 2 people. Can’t beat the convenience, especially if you can’t do lots of stairs required to reach the rest of the restaurants in town.

I used the campground twice while hiking the GAP. Locals are awesome and very friendly. And the food is good. Perfect local off the trail. Will definitely be back again.

3 long days of riding from DC. Stopped here for 2 nights and had a wonderful stay. Stayed in the bunk house, great break from my tent. Will definitely stay agin.

This is a great budget inn, located right by the GAP trail. The owner, Steve, is friendly and helpful. It's not fancy, but it's clean, well kept and super convenient. I arrived with a group of five cyclists passing through on the trail. Steve set us up with a safe, easy place to keep our bikes, provided us with laundry facilities and even offered to shuttle us up the short hill to the main drag in town. Recommend highly.

I wanna say thank you so much to the gentleman that was running the food stand outside . I have major back and shoulder issue and walked up the hill into Frostburg. Thinking I would be fine I became extremely overheated. I asked the gentleman running it for the coldest water he had and he asked if I was OK I just said really overheated. He then handed me probably the coldest ice water that I have ever had which was God sent . Thank you so much for your help it helped so much . That's something my wife and me will never forget the simple kindness of one person . I can't say it enough thank you

This had the perfect location after a long day of biking on the trail. I actually arrived late and the owner went out of his way to accommodate, fix me up with a laundry, and find a place to eat. It was a stairway (a long one but that is Frostburg) away from a nice pizza place and the town. The price point was great!! Rooms clean, would definitely stay there again.

Lovely spot. Friendly host, good campsites, and the best amenities (shower, washer/dryer) I’ve seen so far on the C&O and GAP. Feels private, but very close to downtown. If you are biking be prepared for some uphill climbs.

I've known Steve and Virginia for years now. I'm local and have been to the Trails Inn ever since they bought it. The place is meticulously maintained, the pulled pork sandwiches are made incredibly well at the little restaurant they operate, and being nestled in the hillside, is a scenic treat for those visiting there. Virginia and Steve are like family to me and I have personally witnessed how well they treat their guests. Steve will also throw in the complimentary ride out of town (depending on availability) for those looking for one. Their rooms are cleaned regularly and I often pass by the Inn and see Steve working around the property and helping guests. In my opinion, for the traveling adventurist, along the C&O Canal bike path, Trail Inn Lodging and Campground is Western MD's best kept secret. Now if they only got a beer and wine license, the train rides would be a lot more fun.

Terrific owners. We stayed here while biking along the GAP. The owner, Steve, went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. We had been biking for several days and the hot shower, washing machine, and clean campsite was a welcome relief after rain showers every day. We did stay at the campsite and while the walk up is a chore, the owner's dedication to customer satisfaction is well worth it.

Friendly. Relaxed. Hospitable. Perfect amenities provided for any chosen option; private room, hostel or primitive camp (latter two now closed for season). My third stay this fall, with a great experience with each overnight option. Can't wait to return next year!

Steve is a great guy and his place was amazing. Our trip for Pittsburgh to dc was made even better by staying at this hostel! He made great recommendations on a restaurant and sights in the town! A+++++

Hands down the cleanest, cushiest, nicest bathhouse at a campground ever anywhere. There were towels, wash cloths, soap, shampoo, individual showers and toilets, laundry, privacy, heat, the list goes on. John and Beth were super friendly owners and hosts and stayed up past hours to assure guests made it safely for the night. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Really cool unique place. The camping area is up a really steep ramp that seems not worth the climb but above it is the best view of the valley and Inn below. A nice trail leads to the main trail with many abstract sculptures lining the switchbacks.

PROS
Great beautiful location next to GAP trail and Frostburg Depot
Friendly owners work on site
Good and inexpensive food (burgers etc)
Beautiful clean showers (with towel!)
Close to town
Flat and clean campsites

CONS
Campground is accessed by a very steep boardwalk and town is further up the hill

We came here by bicycle and tent camped.

Steve is the best. This place was a life-saver coming up the GAP after having ridden 200 miles in 2.5 days. A nice break to recharge on that climb!
