Blue Whale

Gas stations as a general rule have little that distinguish them from others. This one due to the more rural feel amd village like atmosphere is a jewel out in a very remote place. A great combination of gas, market (think groceries) and souvenirs. Aside from that the people are just incredibly friendly and welcoming even to us tourists invading the peaceful tranquility of their existence. Even though I was here on vacation my stop here and the brief conversations I had with the people who worked there brightened my day and made the trip better.

I go off-roading on the beach here and have to lower my tire pressure down to around 18 PSI or so. Filling back up after leaving the sand is crucial. This place has free gas that fills up each tire up to 37 PSI within a minute. 5 stars for that!

We stopped by for a cold drink and to air-up our tires. This place had a great compressor and filled tires quickly. Love places that offer free services. Kudos to the management 👏

Fresh fruit (the cherries were GREAT) and veggies, deli meats, fresh coffee beans and grinder, large selection of beverages plus a good selection of hot sauce and snacks. Thanks for the produce, the air up station keeps us stopping in after the beach. I go spend money for the convenience. We like this place!

Great Supermarket style gas station with bait and tackle products, beach toys, and t-shirts.

One user said that if they "Don't have it they will tell you where to go" and that is true. I think that they have about everything and if they don't have it, you might not need it.

The store is well stocked, well presented and very much a value on about every item. Now you might be able to save a few cents at the "W" place but do you really want to drive an hour stand in line for 30 minutes and then step on a dirty diaper in the parking lot? The day I was there people came in droves. In and out in a flash.

We brought from home many things we could have purchased right at that store and not had to carry it and have rolls of paper towels sitting under our feet.

Don't forget to look at the hot sauces and their t-shirts are one of the highest quality on the beach. I picked up a jacket and it was a great value as well as being super high quality. Forgot to mention, they have one of the largest selection of Beers and Wine on the island.

Loved this little store! It has anything and everything you could need for your Salvo stay. Friendly staff greated us upon arrival and it is great to know that we are supporting a local business instead of those big chains that seem to take over.

We got a kite for the beach and popsicles for the walk back to our house! We'll be back for all of our other vacations needs.

Great little store with quite a selection. It's actually amazing the stock variety they have considering how big the store is. They have over 50 hot sauces I would say and great beer selection. The gas prices are probably 10% higher than you would find inlands, but that's not uncommon at the OBX. Their prices on items are also higher, but they are in line with a typical convenience store. Staff is helpful and friendly as well.

I absolutely love Blue Whale. They look small from the outside but have absolutely everything you need on the inside (our needs ranged from swim googles/floats to pizza to chips to charcoal to waffles to ice cream to wine- they had it all and much much more including fishing gear for the fishermen!). The staff is cheerful, helpful and patient. The products aren't overpriced. I was so grateful. We have gone back there daily for anything we need. Their hours were amazing too! Thank you to the staff and owners of Blue Whale for being a one stop shop for what we needed for our kids on vacation!

This is always where we stop to fill our tires and get gas when we're leaving NC. They also have a great selection of single craft beer, so you can try a few different ones w/o buying a six pack, etc.

Everything was Great. Until the very nice Lady at the counter could not tell me if my Twix Ice cream Bar was from the right Twix factory or the left. Lol Her response finally was "Left I guess" with a Big smile.

I've been stopping by for more years than I care to share. Every summer we stay nearby and it's become tradition to stop in for supplies. Don't forget to check out their selection of hot sauces. Great stuff!

I should have known this place was unique when each gas pump had a healthy squeegee and plentiful cleaning fluids. Inside, ask the cashier for the key to the clean restroom. They stock a wide variety of hot sauces, wine and fishing supplies.

Nice little gas station convience store with everything from firewood an propane free compressed air for when you get the 4x4 off the beach to a nice selection of beer and wines plenty of food and snacks along with beach gear and fishing tackle. When in Waves and/or Salvo its the most convenient convenience store around. And it has a great name above it

After a long drive down to NC the staff at the Blue Whale were super accommodating brewing a fresh pot of coffee for me while I picked up a few last minute items. Such wonderful people, and you can find just about anything you need there.

Vacation would not be vacation without the Blue Whale. Good to pick up items you don't want to drive to Avon for. Daily paper. Beach stuff. Hot sauce selection is super.
