Breakaway Cafe

This unsuspecting little cafe packs quite a punch, everything from monstrous, beautiful salads, perfectly crafted burgers, and decadent pastas! The perfect place for a quick, filling lunch with easy access from 170 or 70 and servers that always greet and leave you with a smile! Under new management (same group as SugarFire, so obviously amazing) but same great service, generous probably and quality of food.

The food here is great. Next to the police station so you might miss it. It has a big screen tv to watch all the big games. One waitress for the place so she was all over the place but still came by and checked up on us.

I went in for a quick breakfast this morning before my class started (UMSL). The lady working was very polite and welcoming. I had 2 eggs and a waffle. Coffee was good. Will definitely come back. Not too pricey.

Oh my gosh, such good food! We found this place about two months ago and just love it! Try something new each time we are there and have never been disappointed!

All I can say is wow, This place is fantastic. I'm glad I was able to experience this place. The ambience is very relaxing with meals to match the setting. I had ordered the Habanero Jack Turkey Sandwich and the Cheese Garlic Bread appetizer. This was one of the top meals I've had during all of my travels. I hope I can visit this location next time I'm in St. Louis. This place is very inexpensive and worth every penny. Thank you chef for a great meal. I had just gotten off the road from a stressful drive and your food definitely made me alot happier.

I absolutely enjoyed the wonderful customer service that I got from our server Julie never had an empty drink glass and the food came out fresh warm and even ahead of time for what I was expecting as well she was quite knowledgeable with everything on the menu and was super friendly. She took care of us even though the restaurant was packed and we never had a need to ask for anything cuz she would see what we would need and would already have it at the table before we could ask. If you go there ask for her to be your server for sure... I'll definitely be more than happy to come back again it was a nice Breakaway from all the other restaurants around!

Stopped in for the first time to grab a takeout order for lunch. The staff were extremely polite and friendly and already had our order ready. The food was delicious and made exactly how we ordered. We will definitely add them to our list of usual restaurants to visit!!

Everything you care about in a restaurant is done well here. The servers are attentive, but not overly so. The place is clean and well-kept. The prices are very reasonable. And the food is just fantastic. I've had pizza, sandwiches, pasta, and several other dishes, and all of them have been great. The portion sizes are enough to be filling, but not enough that you'll need to ask for a to-go box. If you're near Lambert or UMSL and are looking for a place to eat, this is probably one of the better options.

Fantastic find. I needed a place to have lunch in a more casual setting while waiting for my next appointment. I was seated and immediately relaxed. Impressive menu and my lunch was excellent.

Tina was my server and one could not ask for better service. Attentive without making me feel rush. Emphasis was on everything was on my schedule.

Came back for a carry out later in the afternoon.

If I ever get the chance will be back and will ask for Tina!

I use to come here when I was kid and loved it, and now with its New ownership it’s even better. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The recipes are just amazing and one of a kind. And the carry out is very convenient for me and work events. If your in the area try this place out, it’s definitely worth it..

This is a small place. There is not a lot of room and at lunch, every table was full. The atmosphere looks as though it would cater to the college kids, but the crowd seemed to be mostly middle-aged. The food tasted great, the service was fast and friendly, and the place was clean. The prices are in line with what you should expect ($10 or so for lunch, including a drink). I would go back and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a place to eat near UMSL.

Stopped in for a quick bite before seeing a show at the Touhill Performing Arts Center. It was a Saturday evening around 7 p.m. they were very busy! We seeded our stuff and our order was taken quickly. Food was delicious! Took a few minutes for the food to come out, but as good as it was, we'd have waited longer! Will definitely try to visit again soon!

Wow new discovery for me. Great place affordable. Freshly made food.
Have a strange allergy (to garlic, onion and chives) and all my food was specially made to not include them and it tasted Great!!! (this is rarely done at other places).
We will be back even if it means driving 40 minutes to get here.

I really like this place. Waiters/ress. Were all kind and alert to make the stay as comfortable as possible. The food is delicious and there is plenty option. The bread that is served prior to the meal is very good. The restroom is quiet small, however it meets the needs.

I've ordered takeout from this place 3 separate times. The first time I got the meatball sandwich and it was great. No complaints.

The second time I ordered from this place, I got the chicken parmesan. I would have preferred the chicken to be fried, it was grilled instead. Maybe I should have asked beforehand. But I wasn't the big fan of it being grilled, although the sauce, cheese, and consistency were good.

I recently ordered the chicken alfredo pasta and potato skins as an appetizer. The pasta was absolutely wonderful, the sauce was incredibly rich and creamy. The bread it came with was soft and fresh, and the portion was generous. The potato skins were very good and flavorful, and my only complaint was that I ran out of sour cream.

Excellent place to eat at. I would recommend to anybody.

Continues wonderful under new owners. Not expensive, great food, good service, relaxing vibe. Our neighborhood place. I love the garlic pizza and Cajun cavatelli. My husband likes the ribeye sandwich.

Excellent food! I frequented this establishment multiple times a week while attending UMSL nearly 10 years ago. The food is just as good as it was then. I love returning to this cafe when I can.
