WOW this place is a gem! I live in Virginia but have family in Tennessee, and was looking for an inexpensive place in between that would handle maintenance tune & fluid changes/flushes on my newer Subaru (diff, brake, CVT & sparks). All the indie & dealer places I called in VA & TN either won’t touch those fluids, or quoted an exorbitant amount to do the work. The guys here are very courteous, and their quote was very reasonable, so I scheduled the service around a trip to visit my family. I was amazed to find that the actual cost came in under the quote, at nearly a third of what the other places quoted! I was able to more than pay for my trip with the money I saved. They did excellent work, updated me regularly on progress, and were gracious to wait for me when traffic put me behind on picking up the car at closing time. I can tell it is a great family business. My car is running much smoother now, and I will most definitely be back for my next major service! Thanks, Ray & company!

I had a problem with my brakes. Ray’s looked at my car immediately without an appointment. They found a simple problem and fixed it. They refused to take payment. Amazing service. Can highly recommend.

Awesome and prompt service and amazing attention to detail! They worked on my Subaru recently and were so kind and patient with me, answering my endless questions and offering great advice about how to keep my car running at its best! They even checked it over for me for free like a week after they had finished the maintenance because I thought it was burning oil! I won't be taking my Subaru anywhere else for maintenance and service!

As a former attorney, I rarely struggle to find the right words. To give the proper compliments to Rays however is one such instance. Most importantly they are honest, trustworthy and do tremendous work. I plan on only buying Subarus just so I can use Rays. Troubles are bound to occur with any vehicle. I have peace of mind knowing that I have the father and son team at Rays when car troubles occur.

My experience with them is that they are fair awesome and do great quality work I would definitely recommend them especially if you have a Subaru b&c specialize in Subarus I would take my car there . And when I had a question about my car they called back right away. Depending on where you are and maybe a little out of the way but it's worth it. From my experience.

The BEST mechanics in the Asheville area.

I took my '07 Forester to Ray's to get some work done. This place is a family business, and they've been around for three decades. They were honest, competent, quoted me a VERY fair price, and got my car done in less than a day. I will not be taking my vehicles anywhere else.

Hands down the best car mechanic I have ever found, from the service, to the knowledge of Subaru, and the cost. I love my car and they just continue to help me keep her running! I'd rather drive an hour to them then try to take it to someone closer who has no clue!

I am mechanically competent and extremely picky about where I take my vehicles for maintenance and repair. Ray's family are honest and down to earth folks that know about everything there is to know about Subaru's. Ray is great, Jeremy knows turbos (which is rare) and Nancy forgot more about Subaru's than I will ever know. My Legacy's clutch exploded in front of an Unnamed garage which I took as a sign to have it fixed there. Never again. I just wrote a negative review for the Unnamed garage so I felt that I should also give credit where it is due. Well worth the drive from West Asheville or even a tow from another state if my car breaks down again. I would just hand Ray a blank check, ask him to fix it, and walk away with the peace of mind knowing he will do the right thing. If you have a Subaru, do yourself a favor and take it to Ray's.

It appears some updating is needed, to document that things are still excellent at Ray's.

I had the check engine light come on in my 2008 Subaru Forester. PO171 - system too lean bank 1. I took the car to the mechanic I use to change the oil (haven't needed any other work until now). He did the wrong repair, reset the CEL, and returned the car. The CEL came on again in a couple of days and the mechanic wouldn't return my calls.

I listened to Car Talk and heard one of the guys mention the Mechanics File on their web site. Checked it out and found Ray's. Talked to Jeremy and Nancy and they agreed to take the car in. Jeremy said he suspected a bad oxygen sensor.

They had the car fixed in short order and did all the maintenance work that was required at 55,000 miles (after getting my approval). The oxygen sensor was the culprit.

As others have said, these are great people to have on your side.
