My buddy and I went there after being turned away from the restaurant to the north. Glad we did. I had the New York stip, garlic mashed potatoes and root vegetables. All were exceptional. My buddy had the glazed pork chop, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. He was also very pleased. I definitely would recommend eating there.

Always a favorite in Downtown Decatur. This restaurant never lets me down and is always the guest favorite. Staff is attentive and the food is amazing. My go to meal here is the drinking pork chop, twice backed potato, and the classic old fashioned. If it’s your first time try the hot rock, always a group pleaser.

My wife and I have tried to walk in a few times but they were full. Made reservations for Valentines day and enjoyed ourselves very much. Food was delicious and the service was fantastic!

Whole family was satisfied with their meal.

Who says you have to leave Decatur to find great food?

Downtown has some nice spots including Taproot on Merchant.

Check out their 8oz filet mignon! Delicious

..and the hearty Chicken Primavera soup is also quite good..... except for the overabundance of PEAS!! Lol...like a third grader, I had to pick those babies out so that I could enjoy the rest of the soup!

Food is ALWAYS absolutely delicious, fresh, and different. Try the french onion soup, fish, filet, roasted cauliflower, lobster tacos with homemade slaw( to die for), pork chop. Everything I have eaten so far has been AMAZING!!! Servers aren't the greatest. I shouldn't have to ask for a refill on a drink, I would like them to ask how everything is after a couple bites of food, and to check again towards end of meal. I am a server and those two things are top priority at my job. These have all been times where the servers were NOT busy. Will return for both lunch and dinner!!
UPDATE Aug.2, 2018:
Jim has been our server, he is supurb!!! He remembers what we ordered last time, keeps drinks filled, and checks at appropriate times!! We will ask for him now anytime we go! Food continues to be delicious and consistant!!!

Excellent restaurant, we will absolutely be back!! I had the short ribs, fork tender and great flavor.

The apple cinnamon mule was probably the best drink I have had in months. The glazed pork chop was amazing. I highly recommend it. The crab dip was also very good, the chips they serve with it are the best part.

Food was great! Bartender asked if we had enough money for our dinner.

Phenomenal! The steak cooked exactly as requested, and the G&T was pretty righteous. You have to, no you must try it don't take my word for it.

This is definately a place to visit
It was originally a jewelry store in the 1800's. Beautiful wood and architectural restaurant and bar. It had some really cool pictures of famous people. For example Frank Sinatra in his mug shot. Excellent food and service. A 2 story building with banquet room with an elevator.

We went with a group. The Andoulie sausage app with melted cheese was amazing. Our meals took forever but we had fun anyways.

Love Tap Root. After my girlfriend insisted that we go, I caved and said, "What the heck" I'm glad I did. Quaint little place on Market Street, in downtown Decatur it serves American style qusine. I had the 16oz pork chop, and my GF had the NY strip. Both were cooked to perfection, and I had the tap roots(carrots and turnips) with my pork chop, and it was all delicious. Full bar, and good selection of desserts. Little pricy, but it's well worth it. Highly recommend if or when you're traveling to Decatur IL.

My dinner companion and I had a wonderful time at Tap Root. The Snapper and Flank steak were very good. Attie the Bartender took wonderful care of us at the side bar. This was my 3rd time I have invited guests there and I assure you there will be a 4th visit.

This is my go-to restaurant. If you go in the summer, you simply MUST get the strawberry shortcake.

I recently held my father's 80th birthday dinner at TapRoot Restaurant. I was highly satisfied with the ease of planning the party because of the great communication that Jolyn provided! On the day of the party, the staff provided excellent service, and the food was great! Thank you so much Jolyn and the TapRoot staff!!!
