Delicious seafood, great atmosphere, and really friendly service. I’ve been several times and always want to go back for more! The clams and mussels are superb, and the soups are amazing. Their crab and lobster rolls are the best I’ve had in Maine!

If there is a saying “from farm to table” then here it would say “from lobster trap to lobster dish” served by the guy who brought the lobster home. Most amazing experience better than any fancy restaurant.

Atmosphere: 10/10
Food: 10/10
Prices: wholesale price for retail product

Amazing restaurant!
My husband was looking for true seafood while we were visiting, and he found this place and it did not disappoint!
His meal was fantastic and the service was phenomenal!

I had the 1/2 & 1/2 roll and while I'm not a big seafood lover, and have nothing to compare it to I loved the crab roll side, the lobster roll was too seafoody for me, but my husband sampled and said it was delicious!

If you're in Maine and near here you must check it out!
Great stop after visiting acadia national park!

We ordered a lobster roll and it was so good we decided to go for a lobster. The food was delicious. The waiting time was just minutes. The staff was extremely friendly.

Lobster and seafood was the best around! Fast and friendly service from the owners who catch lobster that morning and serve it for dinner that night… can’t get fresher . Mike, the owner was so friendly and willing to share information with my grand kids they ask to come back another evening for another fabulous lobster roll..

We have driven all over the United States and this is by far the best lobster roll and lobster bisque hands-down!! We look forward to making this a regular stop for us! The clam chowder was so delicious cannot rave enough good things about this place. It’s a little mom and pop shop and Mike and his wife on hand to talk and just enjoy their company and their knowledge!

This place right here was well worth the drive from Pa! Stopped here for dinner, grabbed some lobster, clams, and chowder! It was wonderful! We even were given directions to a local area so we could eat dinner and catch a sun set. Best Northern hospitality I have received. Definitely will be back and highly recommend!!

This place is great! Stopped by for lunch and bought half a pound of crab and some lobster, had them mixed together, delicious. Great little spot outside to have lunch with friends and enjoy some fresh seafood. People working here are very thoughtful and friendly.

There are more dinner options than lunch options to though, which is something to keep in mind.

We have traveled to Maine many times and eaten at many very good lobster pounds/shacks. Hodgdon's is by far the best we have experienced. Mike and Sue are the owners. They catch the lobsters and crab in the morning and run the restaurant from 3-7pm. They personally know the fishermen that dig the clams, farm the mussels and catch the fish they also offer. Everything is super fresh and expertly cooked in a simple way. Prices are very fair. The steamers and mussels are addictive. The half lobster, half crab roll is Mike's innovation and is genius. I call it the H&H Hodgdon Roll. Mike mans the boiling pots outside - sit at the picnic table near the pots if you want to learn from an expert about fishing and cooking shellfish. Sue makes the rolls and has perfected the simple mayo dressing. The rolls are stuffed with lobster/crab and have the perfect amount dressing. We stayed in Sullivan and made the 45 minute drive (each way) twice on our trip. The food is that good.

Keep in mind this is a hole-in-the-wall type place off the beaten track. It's not on the water so there are no views. You go here for the quality of the food and you don't pay a premium to look at the water or boats. Go somewhere else for that.

My wife and I ate at Hodgdon's twice in summer 2021 and happily returned in August 2022. We could only do lunch this year so steamers and muscles weren't availble (Mike does that cooking and arrives later in the afternoon after pulling his lobster traps). We happily had the half-and-half roll that is half lobster and half crab. Deb knows how to dress lobster and crab. Delicious! This is a place to eat simple but incredible seafood and interact with the owners. Go somewhere else if you want views (and higher prices).

If you’d like your lobster (in any form) from the person who actually caught the lobster, as fresh as possible, cooked by his wife, with your money going directly to the struggling local fisherman family, this is the place.
You can eat it here (they lovingly made their front years welcoming to visitors), or take it to go to a lovely sunset viewing point just down the road (ask the owners about where it is)

The best lobster for the best price in Maine! Straight from the ocean to the hotpot and to your belly. The owners are very nice people I am glad we drove down to eat there and get to know them. 🦞❤
They also have fresh mussels, oyster, crab and fish.

Hodgdon’s is a quintessential Maine lobster experience that is simply too fantastic to miss. Mike and his wife Amy are lifetime lobsterman who truly wants you to enjoy their labors bounty. He catches your lobster, cooks it to perfection and then hand delivers piping hot, crazy fresh seafood it to your table. He even walked around helping guests appreciate the oft overlooked nooks and crannies of the shells for meat (the flippers and the base of the legs). Everything was so fresh and pure – steamers, clams, crabs, corn, lobsters – it’s one of the most wonderful seafood experiences anywhere. Come for the food, stay for the people.

Amazing shore dinners cooked to order, the best crab rolls and lobster rolls I've ever had. The lobsters are caught by the owners, so you KNOW they are fresh!

We had the awesome seafood platter here. Large lobster, crab, mussels, clams, corn and other stuff. The couple that runs this place is very friendly and helpful. They pointed us to a nearby picnic place (Seal Cove picnic area, check it out) on the seashore for awesome sunset vistas, and also packed for us the cracker instruments for our shellfish on the go. Great food, great service.

Great little place. Our favorite place for lobsters on MDI. Eat there or they will pack them to go. We took them back to our place to eat this year.

Without a doubt the best lobster experience I’ve ever had. We pulled in with ten minutes to close and Mike and Sue graciously cooked us up the shore dinner - a stunning combination of lobster, crab, steamers, mussels, corn and coleslaw. Hodgdon’s is the real deal.

Delicious. Get the Half and Half Roll (crab and lobster), and the chowdah is meaty and good.

Had the half and half roll and it was amazing! I know Maine is the home of lobster but don’t sleep on the crab here. Owner was really friendly and I could tell put a lot of love and care into the food. Highly recommend! Also nice and close to the seal cove picnic area if you want to take in a view while you enjoy your food.
