We had a private tour of the boyhood home and school. The volunteers we very knowledgeable. Answered questions. Friendly atmosphere. Very interesting history. We enjoyed the tour. They let the dog do the tour with us since it was hot outside. Isn’t that nice of them.

The tour of the house was great but what made it especially interesting was our guide, Lee. He shared a lot of not only, Ulysses’ history and personal life, but also his father Jessie’s life and work as well. We also visited the one room school house that Ulysses attended and Lee was our guide there also. Definitely worth your time to learn about some of the early influences of Grant’s life.

President Grant's boyhood home in Georgetown was the last stop in our road trip to SE Ohio Saturday and it did not disappoint. 1, it was open, amazing in itself, and 2, we had a wonderful tour conducted by a very well informed and friendly woman with Ohio History. Along with the walk around, there is a short monolog by an animated young Ulysses. Small fee. Beautiful house. Recommended.

Docent was excellent. A worthy stop on the Ohio trail of History. Very humbling place to imagine a General and President to have lived early years.

We had the most amazing visit thanks to Cris and Marianne. They were so informative and extremely welcoming to our nine-year-old granddaughters and to my husband and me. They stayed and made sure we experienced the full tour even though we arrived a bit later than we planned.
The home is beautifully kept, and the tour provided so much insight into the life of a very great man- Hiriam Ulysses Grant. The audio animatronic experience was a special and thoroughly enjoyable addition to the tour. We all learned those tidbits of information and stories that brought Grant to life and which are never shared in history classes.
We truly enjoyed our visit and highly recommend visiting. We hope to bring our other grandchildren when they are a bit older.
Thank you to the two fantastic docents who made this experience extremely special!!

Very interesting and informative. Nice tour and the guide was very knowledgeable. Some original artifacts in the house as well. Grant lived here until he was around 17 years old, when he left for West Point.

The downside is that while today they were short on volunteers and so we were unable to see the school, the plus side is that the house is wonderful and really a good time capsule. Carolyn was our docent and her passion for the topic, and incorporating some of her experiences living in Georgetown, went a long way to a wonderful experience. It was a perfect sequel to the birthplace 18 miles away

I visited this museum on a brief break from a business conference and it really fulfilled my craving for local history. The caretaker had some really great stories of Grant's childhood in the house, his exploits and his friendships with other interesting local people. The house had been well restored and even had a few pieces of furniture owned by the Grant family even though they hadn't lived there since Ulysses Grant graduated West Point. The real shocker though was at the end of the tour. The guide opened a door to a small room at the back of the house and inside was a simple little theater with an animatronic young Ulysses Grant! The quality of the movement and materials was reminiscent of Disney - very well done!

This is a must see....take your kids, learn the history. Tour the grounds & building. If done on Grant days , the experience is awesome!!!!...but none the less it stands on it's own, the wealth of knowledge is not wasted if you stop by for a visit.

I love history! And BTW, Grant was a drinker, but not a drunk. In fact, a great General!

Visiting Grant’s home is very interesting. Our guide knew so much about Grant and it was fascinating. I’d recommend going when you can.

If you enjoy history and want to learn more about one of the key figures in the Civil War, a visit to Grant's boyhood home will give you a firsthand look in his earlier years before leaving to attend West Point.
