La Cabana Del Tio

Some of the best places to eat homemade Mexican food are in little buildings with Univision blaring on the TV. Cash only. My barber told me about La Cabana Del Tio in Clearwater which sells some of the biggest and most tasty empanadas he's ever eaten. He said they are made from scratch using corn masa like his mom makes. This place is tiny and the parking lot is not made for trucks but I managed. I didn't know it was cash only so off I went to the bank to take out some cash. I was determined to try this place today. They have a line of proteins to choose from for the filling. I asked for chorizo and cheese. It took a good 10-15 min to get my food. Let me tell you, they smelled great on my way home. I wanted to pull over and eat them. When I opened up the tray they had placed a huge helping of sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce on the size. The three empanadas were thick and filled with meaty Mexican-style chorizo (ground up) which is what I wanted. They put a strip of fresh queso on the bottom of the fold. They were not greasy or messy, they were easy to cut in half and devour. I found a new place for some good MEX eats! Definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant simple restaurant. Those empanadas set the bar pretty high for me so I hope the rest of the menu keeps me coming back. I plan on trying the pozole next.

The best Mexican food I have EVER eaten. Very authentic, and they make their own tortillas by hand. The food was amazing, as I am writing this review 2 years after my visit from Alaska because we just referred some friends that will be in the area. Location is the definition of a hole-in-the-wall, and they have very limited seating, but the food is well worth the stop!!

Real Mexican street tacos. If you are looking for "American Mexican" tacos go elsewhere as this will not be to your liking.
They make the tortillas right there and serve you the tacos. Very authentic and real street food. Nothing fancy and cheap. You will not get anything fancy.

I have been a regular at la Cabana for over 18 years. It's a very small location and only a couple of tables inside. But the food is just as delicious to go.
I hadn't been there for quite a while. Was having a difficult time deciding what to order. I love the fresh tortilla so much but today. I ordered the sopes with the carnitas, pastor,. They were excellentl.
I took my niece for the first time. She had their delicious chicken tacos. She was so amazed How delicious the fresh tortillas were.
I was fortunate enough to have a friend that lived in Mexico City. I traveled there over 20 times and frequented markets, restaurants and street vending. I've been in the restaurant business for over 45 years. Hands down La Cabana has the most authentic Mexican food in the Clearwater area.

If you want great tacos, there is nothing better in Clearwater. Everything is delicious. The tortillas are hand pressed while you watch. Tortilla, meat, cilantro. It's all you need.

The meat is juicy and always perfectly seasoned. The salsa is perfectly spicy. This is the best lingua I have ever had. It's braised so you know it's juicy.

This was the first place I had sopes, so I may not be the best judge, but they're unbelievably delicious. The quesadillas come in sets of 3 and they're always very cheesy and meaty.

Lastly, and I don't know why, but the french fries here are always perfectly cooked. Crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

This little hole in the wall restaurant has amazing tacos. One of the reasons reasons why the tacos are so great is that the tortillas are made from scratch every day. The hot sauce is homemade, too. Even if you don't like hot sauce, I would suggest at least tasting it because it has a great flavor.

Tip: Never ask for "extra hot sauce." You will get hot sauce that will burn your mouth out instead of getting a larger portion of hot sauce.

I've been going here for tacos for over 15 years. I can't even begin to say enough good things about the food here. Amaze-balls! I think they are cash only, so be ready for that. The picture is the tacos Americanos. 3 is enough and worth every penny. :)

Always great food I've been going there for more than ten years now. And I'm always pleased with their food is absolutely delicious. The only thing is I wish that the ladies at the counter were more welcoming at the restaurant I know it's very little I know it's very hot in there and stuff. But a little smile or how are you would be great. But it's typical Hispanic thing we're not really much of a greeters when we're working. But having a little bit of change wouldn't be a bad thing.

It's a plainly dressed, unassuming place. You've probably driven by it hundreds of times. However there's no place like this in Florida. I'm off the opinion that this is the best Mexican restaurant East of Texas. Maybe the best East of the Mississippi. Just amazing good food.

I have been coming here for years and the food is so great that I keep emergency taco money on hand for cravings (no cards accepted!). The fresh handmade tortillas, flavorful meats (especially the bistek con nopales) and the worlds best damn red sauce make their tacos my favorite in all of the Tampa Bay area. I usually recommend people get 3-4, up to 6 if you're really hungry.

They recently updated their menu, the new one is more readable and organized. The prices rose just slightly (and reasonably imho) but the food is still worth every penny and more.

Do note the restaurant is small, just a few barstools and booths that can fit at most 4 people. The staff is kind but straightforward, no perky chatty service here. During busy hours they have a bilingual cashier but early mornings or late nights you might have to get by with a bit of Spanglish or google translate if you don't speak Español.

I've lived all over California for most my life... and this is still the best Mexican food I've had. A hole in the wall in Clearwater of all places. I'm writing this after having moved to Colorado and I still crave this place way more than I should.

Get the pastor tacos and thank me later.
