This is an incredible local treasure but I stress the word local - because it should be treated with care for just that reason. The park has a playground, picnic tables, gazebo, large grassy field, various buildings dedicated to senior meals and local community activities. It also holds a spring that is one of the headwaters of the Sacramento River.

For whatever reason you come here, please respect the fact this a community treasure created and maintained by the local community. Please don't leave trash, destroy native habitat (such as the native plants growing around the spring), or make this an unsafe area for family by doing drugs or smoking cigarettes.

This is a great place to enjoy time alone or with family and friends.

There is parking and a bathroom.

Again, respect this wonderful community resource. Don't leave trash. Respect the energy, work, and funding it takes to maintain such a wonderful place where people can relax, recharge, connect, and play together.

Fantastic is only the beginning of this gem. Along with picnic tables, bar-b-ques, a playground & forested trails near the creek are the Headwaters of the Sacramento River. These blessed waters taste as if from Heaven. Many come & sing to the waters also offering flowers & spices to honor them. Walk softly, have a taste & cool your feet in the Sacred Headwaters & take a nap or have a meal in this beautiful park.

9-17-21 Our tour took us to Mt. Shasta City Park home of the headwaters of the Sacramento River amazing to see so much water in a never ending cascade of movement. I brought a jug so I could take some with me and boy is it 🥶 🧊 cold. We hiked the area and discovered a tree or should I say two different trees that have grown TOGETHER ❤. Check out the photos it's true. Nice hiking trails not sure about bathrooms.
Blessings, John

Mount Shasta City Park houses the Headwaters Spring that funnel into the start of the Sacramento River. It's a heady experience seeing that much water come from the base of the mountain. It's very clean and very crisp, but you drink at your own risk. There are vendors selling their wares at benches and areas around the spring - mainly crystals, incense. The water is cold and there aren't a lot of places to sit at the start of the springs - benches and bridges are further downstream. The park was very clean. There is no overnight parking/ camping.

Great park and landscaping but lots of weed smoking hippies! The water is the cleanest and coldest in California. The water come out of a hole in the ground. Snow melt from Mt. Shasta seeped though cracks in the mountains and filter though the rock. When it comes out at the park you can fill up your water bottle and drink it. Go early otherwise you will encounter lots of dirty drifters bathing in the water and smoking.

This place is a little slice of old timey California with its multiple brown buildings, meandering trails and old trees. You must go down to the headwaters: such spectacular clear fresh water! Playground, horseshoe pits, BBQs, this park had them all

Great place to stop on a road trip. The park is beautiful but the highlight is the headwaters to the Sacramento River. Very interesting place to check out for a bit.

Beautiful little Park apparently the beginning of the Sacramento River. People out there with water bottles and containers getting freshwater right from the base of the mountain stream. It was beautiful that cold morning and a awesome pit stop on the way back from Washington for the holidays. Can't believe it's the first time we have stopped by there, but we will be back for sure!

Very clean place, lots of space to run around and play for kids, or picnic for families. A lot of hippies were there so be prepared to see some weird things, but overall friendly people visiting and beautiful place. Good stop off if you’re on a road trip with kids as there are multiple playgrounds. There’s also a place to fill up water for campers at the headwaters.

Came here to get some fresh air on our drive, there was live music and dancing in the park, we got to enjoy a view, and ended up getting fresh spring water from a natural spring!

It was incredibly magical to experience the snow clad peak of Mount Shasta! The City Park gives amazing views of Mount Shasta and gives you many avenues to climb to the summit . Usually, this place is alive during summers for adventurists who park their vehicle by the lodge and experience and hike the peak. Climbing Mount Shasta is an experience by itself - so, if you consider yourself an adventurist, you should definitely check this place out.

This was a beautiful park!! I Loved it. The headwaters were amazing and the water was the best I've ever tasted. there's a sign that says they don't recommend drinking the water but everyone and their mother was there filling up water bottles so I figured it was ok. I noticed that there are hiking trails here to so next time I will try that.
