Union Canal Trail Head Parking

It's been awhile since I've been there due to the hard weather. I do miss going there can't wait till spring because it's such a lovely place. It's where I go to relieve some stress and I recommend every human beings to pay a visit.

The Union Canal Trail is a very cool multi purpose gravel and asphalt trail for walking, jogging, biking, etc. The very north section near the trail head is a bit hilly and the surface is not the smoothest with larger rock and some rutting. That could have just been when we were there though. But the rest of the trail was fantastic, winding very closely to the tulpehocken creek with great scenic views of the river, fly fishermen, herrons, neat old buildings and more. The trail is roughly 6.4 miles and intersects schuylkill river trail. Well worth the trip, then head over to Blue Marsh lake and you got a great day!

This is a connecting trail between Blue Marsh and what eventually leads to Gring's Mill, so I've been told. I've never walked far enough to test that. The entrance is at the first lot in the Blue Marsh Stilling Basin entrance on Pallisades Dr. It is a really lovely, wide dirt path that I followed as far as Reber's Bridge and then back. I think it was about 2 miles in each direction. It wasn't particularly hilly so it is a really nice path for a less difficult walk, run, or bike ride. The path is very smooth and good for strollers and bikes. Some areas do get very muddy after heavy rains or melting snow. I take my dog here and she loves it. You go along the river and there are some access paths to the water for fishing.

It does go all the way to Gring's Mill. In fact, I followed it as far as Stonecliffe park and it goes even further than that but I turned around there. Beautiful, long trail and it's very flat so you can go for a long time before you get really tired.

This small section was brutal on the bikes. Lots of up and downs and loose gravel and soft sand. And completely exposed, not much tree coverage.
