Mad Mex

Mad Mex is a State College staple. Come here for the queso, the margs, the tacos, and so much more.

The atmosphere and service are wonderful. Prompt and friendly servers, patient with newcomers about the menu, and happy to give recommendations or fix problems. Portions are very generous.
We didn't love the waffle fries since they're very oily compared to most. Everything else was great! Dip trio was a highlight. Salsa wasn't our fave, but the guac was very fresh, and the queso was surprisingly good. Both tacos we ordered (sriracha tacos and wing tacos) were large portions and we took a lot of food home. The classic marg was tasty and well balanced. Not too sweet or too sour, and a nice kick. Def not a weak marg.

I'll definitely come back to try other items from their menu (tons of options, nobody can get bored), and the desserts I've heard great things about!

Great place to go with your friends! It’s a little bit expensive if only one or two people go. Their fish and chips are my favorite!

Amazing Service from Mel! So I have made the decision to become vegan about 12 days ago, but I was still able to eat and enjoy such tasty meal and wonderful service here at Mad Mex! I want to say thank you to the cooks and Mel for such an evening!

Great staff, especially Julia our bartender. They really were considerate about the balance between being safe and having fun. Had some fantastic wings and quesadillas to go with an excellent margarita!

Love this place! One of my favorite bars in the area. Late night munchies are deathly though, two jumbo margaritas, gigantic portion of nachos, and quesadilla all for $20 after 10pm. Naturally my eyes are more hungry than me so had to get a box to go :) worth it!

I’ve been in many Mexican restaurants and Mad Mex is the best one. My favorite dish is steak quesadilla and the waffle fries is a must to try. Madmex is my first choice whenever I’m in town. Can’t wait for my next visit. Highly recommended.

Great food and wonderful service. The food is reasonably priced and the staff was very friendly and attentive. We had a party of six, and all the food was served in a quick time frame with zero complaints from anyone. The outside seating is heated and we were comfortable even though it was chilly with a breeze. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to others and I will definitely eat there again.

Went here yesterday with a friend. I had the grilled corn and steak tacos and I also got a Watermelon mojito which was all very good. We shared chips and guac/salsa which was good. We sat outside and the patio/bar area is just really cool. Their menu is huge with a lot of options for different lifestyles. Waitress and trainee were attentive and nice. Will definitely be back.

Mad Mex has a wide variety of options of food. The food was delicious, with pretty generous portions. The price of the food at this restaurant is slightly higher than other food spots in the area, but it is really because of the amount of food you get. The staff were really great at suggestions, and service was great. There are no parking areas designated to the restaurant, so you will need to find parking. Overall, great place to check out!

LITERALLY THE BEST PLACE IVE EVER EATEN. food is dank af. whisky sour is probably one the best alcoholic drinks i’ve ever had. please come. you won’t regret. not an employee, literally just a drunk penn state student who is satisfied but beyond satisfied with the food comma service. please come

A fantastic blend of tex-mex and California Mexican styles with great guacamole and sangria as well as margaritas. The staff was also wonderful at working with food allergies, providing corn tortillas or bowls for gluten allergies and offering vegan cheese and sour cream options, which can be hard to find at similar restaurants. The alcohol is pricey, but the food is reasonably priced for decent portion sizes.

Food was good, no off street parking. Our server Peyton was great. Always on top of drinks and checking in making sure we were good. Chicken tacos were good, steak/ corn tacos were on the spicy side

Fajitas are absolutely delicious!! Comes with a whole little DIY make-your-own fajita, and the meat was cooked exactly like I asked. Also got a marg, which was very strong and definitely worth the money. Only issue was that the marg flavoring really didn’t change the taste of the margarita at all. Would absolutely go again, and I understand why it’s always so busy.

One of our favorite spots in State College. We never miss a chance to visit Mad Mex. The food is outstanding, hip Cal-Mex, not "Mexican", but that's just fine. Try the Southwest-Wild Wings. They will blow your mind. Margaritas are on point, and the craft beer selection is second to none, with $5 22oz drafts of their featured craft brewery. Best happy hour in town. Staff is great.
