Updated and very welcoming place of worship. Family-oriented feeling, pleasant, and peaceful. A nice place to reflect upon one's beliefs and convictions. Great time celebrating our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I recently returned to this church of my childhood to attend a presentation, where the presenter was going to discuss the meaning behind the words and actions that are contained within the Celebration of the Eucharist. The theory is that if we better understood the background behind all that is happening in the Mass, we would become more active participants in the Celebration of the Eucharist. Of this, I am a firm believer.

Many years ago, I attended Our Lady of Peace (OLP) elementary school for first and second grade; I think it was in 1953 and 1954. It was back in the time when Father Nall was the pastor of the parish and nuns ruled with an iron yardstick. Ah, those were the days! As I walked into the church to hear the presentation, I was swept back in time; a time that for me was much, much simpler. The church looks very beautiful today but, to me, was still recognizable as the church where I had made my first Confession (I was terrified!) and received my First Holy Communion. I was somewhat surprised by the memories and the associated feelings that swept over me. I felt very comfortable being there for this presentation; this was my old home!

The presenter did a wonderful job and provided us with so much information, information for us to think about when we attend our next Mass. We were provided with handouts that had allowed us to follow along with the presentation and then afterward, locate additional resources whereby we can try to deepen our relationship with Christ.

The presentation lasted one hour but it seemed to go by so quickly. It didn’t seem possible that I had been listening to the presenter speak for that long. I suppose that this is a tribute to the material and the presentation of that material.

This presentation was part of an effort by the OLP parish to get the Catholic community more energized and involved in their faith and the Celebration of the Eucharist. In addition to the presentation, they had on display a statue of the Scourge Christ. This is not an ordinary statue of Jesus. The statue provides a more graphic image of Christs condition after the scourging and application of the crown of thorns. As graphic as its may seem, I think that He may have been in even worse shape than was depicted by the statue. I was drawn to the statue and couldn’t help but wonder how many of His wounds were there as a result of the sins that I have committed in my life. How much less would Christ have suffered, if I had only been less of a sinner?

I took some pictures of the statue because I want to always look upon those photos to see what Christ did for me, and everyone else, out of his love for us. Even though we sin, God loves us unconditionally and will forgive us, if only we ask.

I appreciate OLP opening their doors to parishioners and non-parishioners, in order to help us to help ourselves become better Catholics and Christians, thereby becoming better people in our everyday lives and activities. In the world today, where civility and politeness are severely lacking, efforts like these at OLP can help us to realize what is truly important in our lives and put Christ first, thereby allowing all the other everyday things to fall into their appropriate place, in a descending order of importance.

As I finished my visit to OLP, I drove around the block, looking at the parish grounds and once again, the grounds were still recognizable to me from the days of my youth. I was glad that I came to this event. I heard a wonderful presentation, I saw a wonderful depiction of Christ and His suffering for us and I experienced and unexpected twinge of nostalgia, remembering the days spent here as a youth.

Thank you Our Lady of Peace for providing me with such a beautiful experience! May God bless you and all of your efforts in His name.

First attended OLP Church upon moving to Ridley Twp in 1956. Was married there in 1964 (55 years ago) and had our 2 children baptized there and also 1rst Grandchild. Funeral masses for my parents and other family members were preformed at OLP. It has always been a important part of my life and also the lives of many people in the community. It is a beautiful church and we are thankful for our Priests and Deacons who keep this church alive with the message of Christ's love and salvation.

For years, as a member of the choir, the church was like a part of my close family I would meet every Sunday. It felt like home.
