Whistlestop Bookshop

One of our favorite book stores. The selection is unique, the store is laid out well and easy to see everything. I love that there are books that are unique and you won't find in other book stores. The notebooks are especially gorgeous. There's something for everyone in our family, which is why it's one of our favorite places to go to in town.

Jeff at Whistlestop Books curates new books and has classics on hand. A must stop if you're in Carlisle.

First time visitor. Looked the look and classic feel. It was nice to see such a variety of books and not just a bunch of popular bestsellers that really aren’t that great. Definitely going to be a stop I make on future trips to Carlisle.

Such an awesome local bookseller. If they don't have it, they can get it in two days usually. That's equivalent to Amazon's prime delivery. They offer curbside pick up if needed. Jeff is a great resource at the store and you have to love the cat that roams the shop. They have a great kids selection.

When I was a kid, my dad took me here all the time, and I still have some of those books to this day. Don't listen to that other guy's review-- it is absolutely a welcoming place for kids (Hello! there is a huge children's book and teen section), and I spent a lot of time here as a young kid. Working at Whistlestop was one of my first jobs in high school, and later when I was in college I ordered a few books through Whistlestop as well. Since then I've stopped in to browse and request a few books as well, and I've never been disappointed. Jeff Wood, the owner, is to this day one of the best bosses I've had the pleasure of working for; he's always so friendly and extremely helpful. Whistlestop is one of the most well organized and stocked bookshops of its size I've ever been to. Jeff can order anything you'd like if you call ahead, and prices are pretty low. The last time I ordered a book it was the same price on Amazon, came in within a few days, and made me happier to support a local business. Go check it out! They often have other little things besides books, like local art and trinkets, that make wonderful gifts as well.

Cozy shop that seems to have very book I've ever looked for whether current or classic, cooking or history, children or young adult, annotated or break beat poetry. How do they do that??? The owner is very knowledgeable and has made excellent, informed suggestions when I am searching for gifts. His expertise is thorough and so valuable--that's why I shop locally. They also have a cool selection of literary themed gifts like tees and book bags. And local honey!

I love this place. Great selections, atmosphere, and cat. Jeff has created a very interesting place for the town This is my favourite place in Carlisle. After six years of stopping by at least once a month, I am very much going to miss it.

I LOVE all the books I bought, that Randy Watts wrote of all the
Cumberland County fire company histories. I don't know what I would have done if I never knew about this bookstore being in Carlisle. I like how books are on display in the window to what is available to see and buy. Whistlestop Book has any books you want and GREAT PRICES!!!

This little book store is pretty awesome! I stopped by to see what antique books they had for a friend and left with some good laughs and an awesome birthday card for my brother! The cat is adorable! I will be back when I have more money and can buy all the books I wanted!

What a lovely place to shop. Browsing in Whistlestop is simply going to make you feel good...great books, beautiful cards, unique gifts, and useful items, all in an interesting historical building. Jeff is so helpful. You can tell that he wants every customer to experience the rare brand of friendly, professional and thorough customer service that he understands makes all the difference to people that stop in to look around. After your first visit, you'll keep returning.

This is a wonderful place full of wonderful people. The prices, though not cheap side, are not unreasonable and are completely worth it for the friendly service you receive. It is a really nice small town bookshop with a fantastic owner. The owner makes a point to come into the theater class and help out. He is extremely knowledgeable and a wonderful person.

Whistlestop is truly a must visit. The employees are knowledgable and friendly. The service is far superior than an large chain bookstore. I am definitely a book addict and I don't need online bookstores but I do need Whistlestop. They always have fun things in the window displays too!

Great locally-owned bookstore. The owner (and cat) are very friendly, I continue to shop here and even had my bridal shower upstairs, so it's also a potentially great venue for a small party.

🍯🐝 I love this place. I go there to buy Tom Jones Honey 🍯 🐝 It's there available and for sale ALL YEAR LONG!! The owner of the bookstore is a quiet, friendly, gentle soul. One day I'll go there for a book. Lol. He has a Cat that loves to Grace her presence to the customers.

I was in Whistlestop yesterday. We have visitors from Belgium this weekend, and whenever we have visitors who are interested in books, Whistlestop Bookshop is a must-see stop in Carlisle.

The bookstore was crowded with shoppers, and everyone seemed happy to be there. My group of four was looking at the shirts that are dedicated to famous novels. Our Belgium visitors knew many of the featured books, but they were unfamiliar with "Goodnight Moon". We headed straight to the Children's Section, and I read them the entire book, in well under 5 minutes, pointing out, of course, my favorite things in the pictures. It's something I was comfortable doing in this very welcoming bookstore.

This is a great store! I enjoy shopping here. This shop has many excellent books. More than one person could read in a lifetime. The owner is super nice. I truly recommend the Whistestop to any and all who enjoy books and reading.

It is a great local bookstore with lots of options! It is perfect if you want to browse in a quaint local bookstore or you are looking for a popular read.

This a fantastic hidden gem on the Carlisle main strip down High Street. They have a good selection for a small local book shop with an extra back room full of fiction/fantasy/Sci-fi and more. They also have a great children's section in front that we use to treat our daughter after walking around downtown. Definitely a fun stop in!
