I’ve been stopping by this hardware store for 12 years now, usually in a pinch to get a part on the fly while making a repair. Very helpful staff that can guide you in the right direction. A large collection of items to make a a quick repair or Macgyver something along in these old West Philadelphia row homes. They are quick and good at making keys, have a selection of locks for narrow doors and other hardware specific to the Philly area. Today’s visit was for a plumbing repair. They explained the options and even offered to let me try out a part and return it if it did not work out for my repair. These neighborhood hardware stores are always handy when in a pinch and you’d rather get the job done vs spending hours hunting around a massive box store.

First time coming by Monarch, these guys are great. I came in with a stuck stripped screw, which they helped me find the right equipment to remove it, and then took a good deal of their time and effort to give me a hand. They were super nice about the whole thing, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Stopped in here for the first time today. Needed to replace a storm door cylinder. As soon as I stepped in the place Dwayne acknowledged me and said he’d be right with me.

He went above and beyond setting up the piece making sure I wouldn’t have any trouble getting the lock to work properly.

I’m so impressed by the level of service I experienced here.

Legit hardware store that knows what they are talking about. If you need an old faucet part, or have an old lock re-keyed, or an old car key cut, these folks probably have it. I'm not always great at describing, so it's always best to bring in the part you are trying to replace, and they typically know what to sell you. Note: Most staff offer service with a smile, a few do not, but they have good advice.

Great hardware store staffed by friendly and helpful people. We love to shop there and can usually find what we need (glass, plywood, tools, paint, gardening supplies, they've even got some cleaning supplies). If they don't have something in stock, they can sometimes special order it too. We also get our keys cut here and have used their locksmith service.

i have lived in philadelphia for 7 years and feel regretful for not coming here sooner. when you walk into this place it feels like time traveling to a simpler time. the staff is so helpful, we just stood there and told the guy what we needed and he ran off to fetch it. can’t beat the prices & coool keychains!!! i’m looking for a reason to go back!

Super friendly dudes! They’re always friendly + patient, and have been helpful when I’ve come in needing help with finding specific things.

They also have good prices, especially considering it’s such a small little spot, so you wouldn’t necessarily expect them to be competitively priced. They have a good selection as well— again, don’t be fooled by its size bc the store is packed with a wide array of both convenient + specific things you may need.

I live nearby and there’s usually a constant stream of cars + people swinging by. Definitely not hard to see why they’re so popular!

I've been a loyal customer for years. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and you will be surprised at all the hard to find items that they keep in stock. Their prices are competitive and Alan, his son Dave, his co-workers Aires and Tyrone are the best.

I went into Monarch Hardware on Walnut St. in West Philly to replace a toilet flapper. Took me two more trips to finally get the right-sized part, and they were patient and willing to exchange parts. As they didn't make much money off of me, the least I can do is leave them a good review.

I have been going to Monarch's Hardware store for over eight years. You need it they have it! This is the only place near me where I can get my keys made for my outer and inner front doors. The only other place I can get keys made is Ace Hardware stores that work. I can't get keys made at Lowe's or Home Depot because they do not work for my doors! They have everything you need; to fix things for your home, Gorilla glue... I could go on and on. If you live in Philly and you live near 45th and Walnut St. stop in why don't cha'...you won't be disappointed! A lot of men go there to get all the supplies they need!

These folks went out of their way to help me out with replacing my locks. Dwayne is a supportive teacher, and I was totally prepared to go home and work out the tools on my own! Everyone is friendly in this store, and they will have everything you need. If they don't, they know what you need and where you can go to get it. Wonderful!

These guys are super helpful! Merchandise at a good price point too. I went in to get keys copied, asked to buy some plastic fasteners that they didn’t actually sell, and the guy behind the counter handed me a couple from his own stash. Knowledgeable, friendly, super helpful … spend your money here!

I stop by this local shop at least once a week for all kinds of essentials. The staff is super knowledgeable and approachable. I've gotten everything from perfectly cut panes of glass, seeds, plumbing supply, and tools. The prices are fair and you will spend much less time shopping than at a massive big box store.

Everything you might look for in hardware store of its size, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. They don't carry lawn mowers, tractors, or other large items you might find in huge places like Lowe's or Home Depot, but in twenty years I've found they have just about every hardware item I've needed for my apartment, at reasonable prices.

The friendliest, most knowledgeable staff I have ever come across. They know where EVERYTHING is in the store. It is always a very fast trip for me, even with a long list of needed items.

The staff at Monarch are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The hardest thing often is for me is to accurately describe my problem so they can find a solution. Not expensive either. I strongly recommend them over Home Depot or Lowe's.

What a great place. Has everything you need for the house. It's hard to find stores like this.

Just visited today. I needed a can of matte black spray paint. They were super helpful! I also got some hand sanitizer and 3 masks while there! Seemed pretty well stocked with cleaning supplies too!

gave me a great tip on how to fix my door hinge. hooked me up with this awesome "daylight" light bulb that makes me happy. copied my housekey. chit-chatted with a new neighbor about teaching schoolkids. this store has been around since the great depression. it is staffed with sharp cookies and one guy was an honest-to-God Vietnam vet. Tremendous respect, Monarch. Friends for life :-D
