A very nice restaurant with great food and service. We got the brunch they have on Sunday and it was great all around. The prices weren't bad either, and the place sits right next to the Appalachian Trail. The only problem was the heavy fog we had to go through to get there.

Worth the trip. We visited on a drive home and weren’t disappointed. Great atmosphere, staff is all super friendly and helpful. Food was great - LOTS of comfort food options - it was hard to decide. I had the short rib shepherd’s pie and my husband the chicken pot pie - both were delicious. Had the crab and spinach appetizer - it was good, not necessarily great, but it the mains really were delicious. Will plan to return again when passing through.

Located at mile 1246 along the Appalachian trail, I was honestly surprised how wonderful the food was here for an early dinner for four.

The chicken soup of the day was one of the best I’ve had ever at a restaurant. Hearty but not too thick with generous slices of white chicken, perfectly cut carrots and veggies in an authentic broth. Ditto for the authentic onion soup in a traditional rich broth and just the right melted cheese and bread.

Great staff too.

My dad and I are thru-hiking the Appalachian trail and are so glad we stumbled across this absolute gem of a restaurant. Lunch was so delicious that we decided to come back for dinner! Everything was fantastic, the mojito was excellent and the service from OBryan and Drew. We were super impressed and this is by far one of the best meals we’ve had over the last 1250+ miles.

Oh my goodness 😋 It has taken me 40 years to find a restaurant to make the perfect cheeseburger!! All my burger dreams came true with the first bite😅🤣 Our food was absolutely delicious!!! No pressed meat for these guys in their amazing club sandwiches, juicy slices of real roasted turkey - yummy!!!! Real crab in the bisque, not that fake stuff! And that's just a piece of why this place is great - the staff are kind, competent, and so pleasant!!! And the atmosphere and surrounding beauty just adds to the experience!! Can't wait to go back and sit around their beautiful fireplace. What a wonderful time!!!!!!

A Culinary Oasis on the Appalachian Trail

Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Appalachian Trail, the Thunderhead Lodge restaurant is a hidden gem that effortlessly combines the rustic charm of the wilderness with the sophistication of a Michelin-star dining experience. From the moment you step in, you are greeted by the warm ambiance, an inviting blend of wood accents and soft lighting that creates an atmosphere of cozy elegance.

The staff's knowledge of handcrafted cocktail concoctions and the chef’s genuine enthusiasm for the culinary creations enhance the overall dining experience. Whether you're seated indoors or on the outdoor terrace, you're treated to picturesque surroundings, inspired by natural elements.

Undoubtedly the highlight of the visit, the food here is a masterpiece in every sense. The menu, a celebration of locally sourced ingredients and creative culinary techniques, showcases the chef's passion for flavors and presentation. Each dish is a work of art, meticulously plated and bursting with freshness. My filet was cooked to absolute perfection with a delectable char on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside. The steak's flavor was rich, robust, and precisely what a steak aficionado dreams of. The culinary expertise displayed in the preparation and grilling process truly rivals that of iconic establishments like Peter Luger. From the delicate seafood starters to the perfectly grilled filet and indulgent desserts, every bite is a revelation. The menu evolves with the seasons, ensuring that guests are treated to the finest and freshest produce available.

Dining at this lodge's restaurant on the Appalachian Trail is an unforgettable journey for the senses. While the Michelin star is well-deserved, the soothing sound of nature elevates the concept of trailside dining to a level that's truly extraordinary.

Stopped by this place for lunch, and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend the Garlic Parmesan chicken wings, burger was nice and juicy. Tried a few deserts as well, and would highly recommend the NY style cheesecake. I will come back and try the dinner menu for sure one day.

We stopped in on a whim while out and about. We enjoyed cocktails and lunch. We loved it so much we are heading back for Christmas Eve brunch, which we feel may become our new holiday tradition.

Great discovery - and a real treat on our Appalachian trail hike. All items are made from scratch and it shows. Even the potato chips! Selection of excellent local draft beers was much appreciated. Friendly, attentive service.

Great food and a great atmosphere. The burger and drinks hit a spot I didn’t know I had. The only thing better than the food was our amazing server Cody. Give that boy a raise.

Had a great brunch here today for our first visit! We had French Toast and the Eggs Benedict. Already want to try the Short Rib Hash on next visit! And we will definitely be back for Bourbon and Burger Thursdays! This is a fantastic location to stop on a bike ride!
