Gilman Public Gazebo

Back in the 60s and 70s, Santa (not a department store Santa, the actual real Santa Claus) would come to this gazebo (aka the bandstand) at Christmas time to hand out a mesh candy stocking filled with candy and an orange to every kid in town. Not sure if that is happening any more. Back then the town had 2 grocery stores, a barber shop, library, clinic, 2 churches skating rink with a warming shack, and even a ski tow on the Dodge Rd. There was a bar called the Green Parrot that had a trained to swear parrot. Oh yeah - and a paper mill. The Rev. George Fox, one of the "Four Immortal Chaplains of WWII fame (Google it), was the minister of the Methodist Church here before the war. Gilman may not be the town it once was, but it will always be a great town. This is a great small town (village) to raise a family even today.

Good public gazebo, could use some paint.

Gazebo has been here long before I moved here in 1996. Was once a great attraction for families to gather and children to play... there is no longer any playground equipment for children to play. Tho the park is kept picked up by myself and others in the community for the kids to be able to play... recently the gazebo and fence was painted so has a better presentation to the public eye... would really like to see some playground equipment brought back to this area for the children to have somewhere to go for fun!!

It's a lot with a gazebo.. nothing to see or do there..
