I love this place. If I had to compare it to In and Out, I would say the difference between both places is the bread. Overall, the best burger in town. This is what fast-food should be!

A must try if you are around and want fast food but want real burgers. I am a regular, def. ask for Mochi. She's the best and is super friendly. The restaurant has been around since 1942. It was also in the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives because it's so amazing!

If you don't know what to order just get a cheeseburger with the works. I've eaten other things on the menu but their burgers are a must try. Just beware, their chili-cheese hotdog is very spicy. Not a regular spicy, more of a sweating type of spicy. You will need water or a milkshake. My toddler loves their milkshakes. If you get a milkshake, they will give you a medium size. So, specify if you want a small.

I grew up in the area in the 60s and 70s and wanted to visit this place because of the memories of good food. Well I was not disappointed. We had hotdogs and they were as good as I remember. My dog with mustard, relish and sauerkraut had the "snap" and flavor I crave and haven't found elsewhere! We also had sweet potato fries which were delicious as well. A side of ranch made them perfect. We dined inside and had a very nice experience. I am glad I stopped by and will savor the memory!

This was our second time ordering from here. I can't comment about the inside or anything like that because all we did was place it to go order via the Internet but the food is delicious and decently priced. They offer breakfast all day as well as several other options. You won't be disappointed.

For my 10th(?) visit I came at 11:40 p.m. (yes, I was absolutely 'that guy', seeing as they closed that night at midnight). They were still just as willing to take and make my order. 5 stars all around.

Food is good and i like that they are fast and friendly. Monchy is a good night manager. The owner also makes us feel things are good here since we often see him there.

Burger looked ok, however it tasted soooooo good!!!!! And the price is surprisingly friendly (at least compare to nyc), with decent size too!
Highly recommended!!!

This place is awesome, I came in looking for a quick breakfast and they exceeded my expectations. Service was quick and convenient and the food was delightful. If I am ever in the area again I’ll make sure to come back!!

Chilli dogs are hot 🔥. But I'm not telling anybody anything they don't already know because if you've not been under a rock you've probably been there The staff is so friendly so organized the place is clean as a whistle dine in take out. I will be a regular for sure!

So super yummy!!!!! The chili dogs are awesome!!!! Perfectly spicy!!!! The onion rings are sweet and delicious, and the jalapeño poppers are fantastic!!!!!!!!! Cannot wait to enjoy again!!!!! We did curbside and our food was delivered by a very kind young man wearing a mask. So nice to get out during covid 19.

Next time try to separate the food.You put 4 burgers fries onion rings and 2 hotdogs in a cheap lunch bag all crushed in..so tight that grease leak out of the bag.

I think The Merritt Canteen has existed before Bridgeport was even founded, possible before the existence of time. It's just always been there. And it's oh so good. Grab a double cheeseburger with grilled onions and some cheese fries. Or go spicy with a chili dog or 3.

Great roadside food, open late nights it can get busy especially when the bars/clubs get out but the lines move quick. Good large variety of different items on the menu with unique daily specials. They have all the typical food for a fast food joint but they also have some not so common items like buffalo burgers, fried oreos, fresh battered fish, and when in season soft shell crab. One warning the chili is extremely hot.

I was born and raised in Bridgeport. I relocated to North Carolina and was back to CT to visit. I HAD TO have a Merritt chilidog. The hotter the better!! And I had a burger too(don't judge me...😆😆) They definitely are one of the best spots in BPT and still have the best food.

Kobe Burger was amazing and cook perfectly! That was a large New England clam chowder which is probably the best in the state made for a fantastic lunch?

This time I had a breakfast sandwich on one of the freshest Portuguese rolls I've ever had plus churros on the side which were excellent!

Great food, fast service in a converted gas station. Disappointed that they were out of clam chowder

The absolute best bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on earth. Always a stop when I'm in bpt!
