Vera Mae's Bistro

I had such a great experience dining in. It was my wife and I's 5th anniversary. We sat at a table in the corner looking out at the street, which we quite liked. It was a more intimate area. The lighting was dim but not too dim, it really set the mood for the night. Our server was attentive, but not too much so that it became overbearing. He was very knowledgeable on the menu items and gave us some great insight on what to order.

We ordered the Cromini Crustini as the appetizer, and it was very decadent. Very creamy with the perfect amount of Balsamic glaze on top.

After the appetizer, my wife got the onion soup, while I got the Curried Potato soup. The curry was good, but after tasting that onion soup, I wished I had gotten it. We both agreed that it was the best onion soup we've ever tasted.

My wife settled on the 14 oz. Strip Steak, and I on the Chicken Marcona. The Chicken Marcona was a perfect mix of salty/sweet. The sides were very normal, just green beans and mashed potatoes, nothing special. My wife's steak was very good, nice and tender. It paired very well with the pickled onions on the side.

For dessert, I got the pecan crusted cheesecake, while my wife ordered the creme brulee. Both were exceptional in our book.

Overall we loved the ambiance, food, and staff of Vera Mae's, and we will definitely be back!

My wife and I enjoy trying new places and we decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary here at Vera Mae's Bistro. Had a great time - it was warm enough to sit outside and there was only one other table occupied but was vacated before we got our food so it was like we had a private place all to ourselves, which was fun.

The dinner rolls that came out while we were waiting for our main course were average, but still good. After that everything steadily improved and provided an elevated experience worthy of a celebration. Salad was fresh, dressing was good, and starting with French onion soup, the food was very tasty and fun to eat. We both got different chicken dishes, and they were something to go back for. Presentation was nice and we had fun evening together. We both ordered creme brulee for dessert and it was actually a little different flavor than we expected but made well and we loved it.

Service was friendly and knowledgeable, which was expected at this level of venue, but doesn't always happen these days so that was nice. Overall, this is a great value for the cost. This doesn't necessarily fit our frugal food budget but for a celebration meal this was very well worth the cost.

One of our new favorite restaurants. My husband ran across a “Top 5 Romantic Restaurants” ad on social media, and Vera Mae’s was on there. We decided to try it out for Valentine’s Day. The service and food were SPECTACULAR. They time the food out perfectly so you never run out or get overwhelmed with a thousand plates on your table. Everyone is here very attentive and pleasant. Looking forward to our next visit!

A gem in Muncie and my new favorite date night spot. The food, atmosphere and service were perfect. I had a couple amazing espresso-tinis and a Punta Cana Martini while my husband tried The adventurer. All were delicious. We shared a Japanese inspired app that was unique and tasty. Hubs had the best onion soup I’ve ever tried and I started with a salad with a perfect house blue cheese dressing. I had the special which was a take on chicken and waffles that featured fried chicken with a hot honey sauce, sweet corn bread and bacon collard greens. I lived in the south for 9 years so I was very please and nostalgic for it. My husband had the ribeye and was also happy with his meal. No room for dessert but I definitely plan on going again and exploring the menu more.

Celebrated my grandson's graduation here at Vera Mae's and it was late. Everyone worked to make sure we could be seated and order our food although they had a very busy day. I highly recommend this business. Thank you!

Our first visit for my mom’s 80th birthday celebration was wonderful! Our server Helen was lovely, and the ambience was incredible. Our table for 8 was in a perfect area, under a skylight and away from heavy traffic. We really enjoyed the wontons, filet, cod, and Hollandaise Chicken.

Vera Mae’s Bistro is located in downtown Muncie Indiana. This elegant restaurant has in-door and out-door seating. Walk-ins are welcome but making a reservation will help with making sure you get a table. They offer off site catering and provide for group events at the restaurant. I am a local and have been eating here for years now and my taste buds never get bored. They have daily specials so be sure to ask what they are. I recommend the “French Onion 🍜” (picture shown) for starters. For the entree the “Porterhouse PorkChop” 😋 (picture shown) with which ever vegetable and starch they are serving for the day will be sure to please your palate. For dessert 🍮 the “Bread Pudding” (picture shown) is a must. The bar is also a must when visiting this very fine establishment. The drinks are hands down the best in a million miles! I recommend the French Martini 🍸 (picture shown). The owners and the staff are fabulous so be sure to introduce yourself! 🤝

What an enjoyable evening with the friendliest, most knowledgeable staff. We enjoyed the baked Brie appetizer, ratatouille and vegetable pesto pasta entree, and the tres chocolate and crème brûlée for dessert. Perfect dirty martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives topped the night off along with entertainment from an acoustic guitar duo. An added bonus is the eclectic collection of art and furnishings. Can’t wait to visit again. Thank you VM!!

I always have a great experience when visiting this place and love the level of care the new ownership is putting into it. The establishment was in need of a new direction and some attention which the new owners are putting in! I absolutely loved the NY Strip we had the other night and will continue to frequent this establishment!

Always a good meal and great experience. Food is great and consistent, atmosphere is unique and enjoyable. Ideal location for taking your family when they visit or going out for a nice date night.

Vera Mae's is the place to go for the best drinks in town, the friendliest service, and the most interesting atmosphere and decor. Dining out is more than just the excellent food there. You'll keep going back for all they have to offer!

I am never disappointed. The food and service is always on point. I wish they were open for lunch & on Sundays so we could come more often!

Sorry, I was there as a performer, not a guest, so I can't rate the service or the food. From my perspective, the atmosphere was great!

Hosted a business meal there and it was lovely. Pleasantly quiet and conducive for conversation, and our server was excellent. I called a WK in advance to RSVP, and noted that nothing on the menu is within my dietary restriction (vegan and gluten free). The kind hostess put the chef on the phone and he took it on to make sure I will have a good experience. Long story short, they were ready when we arrived and had my customized meal (2-course!) Prepared with my name. Really went above and beyond. The chef even came to greet our party and ensure the meal was satisfactory. It was very delicious! Altogether great experience on all fronts and I look forward to next time.

What a wonderful find. Our grandson is attending BSU and this was first visit. Everything about this place is wonderful: cuisine, service and ambiance. We were a party of six and I will leave you with 3 recommendations: Jagerschnitzel, Jagerschnitzel, Jagerschnitzel…

Possibly the best salmon I've ever had. Trust Carlos' wine recommendation - great bartender. Great atmosphere. Interesting collection of art. An overall awesome experience.

I've never had anything short of an amazing dinner with Kent and Steve at Vera Mae's. My filet was perfectly rare, and thier French onion soup is the best I've ever had.

Amazing!! My last review was a 3 star because the NY strip wasn't the best but the service was wonderful. Well we go back about 2-3 times a year and this place is awesome. The owner is so personal and we had a great talk about the price of scallops because my wife loves them. My steak was cooked perfectly! We knew about everyone in there that night! Lol. You have to try this place and support local businesses! Thanks For a great experience!!
