Born & Bread: Mercantile and Bakery

We got two loaves of sourdough here: olive ($7.00) and cranberry ($6.25). Absolutely delicious, will be back.

FYI the line gets long and take 15 mins or more of its near the door. And this was in early October!

Best spot on the island! There was a long line but it moved quick and the food was unreal. We got the BB egg sandwich and we couldn’t get over it all day. On a island full of over priced food and drink, this is spot is total winner!

Catherine had great recommendations. Loved her personality and friendliness. The place is so chic. We LOVED our paninis. Cozy seating. Weird that there are no bathrooms though. Overall wonderful spot. We will be back.

Small place open certain hours. Fresh pastry and breakfast sandwiches. Small seating area that fills up fast. Good food.

Being here for work for a few months i needed a Sourdough fix. So, I only went for Sourdough bread. It was very tasty and had a nice Sourdough chew. It wasn't as sour as I make for myself at home yet it is mild enough for you to know it is Sourdough and appealing for a larger crowd. I also asked for it to be sliced which they did into some nice thick slices which were aching to be toasted, buttered, and jammed. Will I be back for bread? YES! I am all about Sourdough. I'm now craving Sourdough waffles which is not on their menu so I will need to wait until I get home.

They also had other nice looking treats and items. And they have a menu online which has some wonderful options.

Worth the wait in the line. Bread on egg sandwich was crispy. Sandwiches are huge, light eaters could even share one. scone was fluffy and not dense as most are.

Everything I’ve tried in this bakery was delicious. My favorite was the Chunky Monkey which was a peanut butter banana panini…but I always favor peanut butter. The ham and swiss panini was also amazing as was the Nutella cruffin. Quaint seating area and quick service.

Delicious sandwiches - love the Kevin - and decent prices! An easy stop for lunch if you are exploring town. Everyone working there is lovely!

Cute bakery with a lot of choices for breakfast and lunch. We got a loaf of sourdough, Nutella cruffins, ham and cheese cruffins, blueberry muffin, scones and two paninis to take on the ferry.

Long line, but moved pretty quickly. This was on a gloomy Wednesday, so I imagine nice weekends are busier. Very friendly service and decent prices. You can definitely tell everything is fresh (they live up to their name with the bread!). Great atmosphere with some outdoor seating. Good selection of sandwiches and sweets! Highly recommend!!!

The BEST bakery on the island with the BEST staff! Everything is amazing. My favorite is the Kevin lunch sandwich. They offer delicious coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, amazing loaves of bread, and you can even purchase beer and wine! If you visit Nantucket, this is a must for your itinerary. The staff is so friendly and hospitable and it’s conveniently located right in town! Don’t be surprised if there is a line out the door…this place is that good and worth the wait!!!!! I can’t wait to return.

Parking is anyone's guess and tarry too long.
But its nice. You cant beat dem baking there own bread ... the way it should be

The shop is so inviting and cute with amazing food. The BB Egg Sandy and Iced Latte was one of the best I’ve ever had!

The blueberry lemon thyme scone is the best thing I've ever put into my mouth. I almost cried eating it. Writing this review before I've even eaten the sandwich I ordered but I'm sure that will be fire too. update: the sandwich was indeed fire

Best breakfast sandwich in Nantucket. Went back multiple times during our weekend stay. Best on the island. Highly recommended the BB Eggy Sandy.

Absolutely AWESOME sandwiches. The wait is long but that just speaks to the quality. The BB Egg sandwich is my favorite of the two I've tried, but the Kevin (Turkey) sandwich tasted delicious as well.
The coffee is pretty good too.

The kind of place that gets jammed in high season with lines out the door, but unlike in some other cases, fully worth it here. Phenomenal baked goods and pastries, beautiful and delicious breads. The cruffin in particular was outstanding. They move people quickly through. Finding seating inside during busy times is a small miracle, expect to grab and go sit on the benches along Centre Street.

First of all, best scone in the world. The sourdough bread is perfection as well. Also whoever is making the coffee drinks here must be Italian because I had the best to-go latte yesterday, although I wish they did flavorings. Best bakery on island, will be back early and often.

Enjoyed breakfast here so much we came back a second day on our vacation. Great egg sandwiches, pastries, and coffee!
