Very yummy! Their potatoe salad is oniony and very flavored filled. The St. Andrew's club was amazing! Recommend this place for a lunch spot. Very tasty! We came here after a morning of hiking and it was well worth it!

Their waitlis is a pad of paper with hand written names & cash is preferred, just an FYI. Service was excellent and so was the salad bar. My baked potato was perfection. Split a burger with a friend as well & even as left overs, it was delicious. Would 100% visit again.

Very welcoming to tourists. The food was fresh. The hash browns were not greasy. They are the best one I have ever had . Pancakes with the trio sauce s on the side , amazing. Biscuits were so good , we ordered more to go .

Salad bar is awesome, don't miss the baked potatoes! Understand that everywhere is short staffed these days, so expect kind, helpful, slow-service. We were there 2 hours total, we probably waited 20-30 mins to be seated then about an hour for food to come out for a party of 8. They're doing their best with what they have. We'd go back when in town again.

Had breakfast here with friends after camping on the mountain. The tomato pie had maybe too much cheese, the sausage gravy not enough sausage but great flavor. We loved the hasbrown casserole and my eggs were cooked perfectly. The lemon blueberry pancakes are a treat, the Tartan toast is a good mix of sweet and tart. Service was very prompt and friendly.

On our way back from a wedding in the mountains, we stopped in Linville, at the foot of Grandfather Mountain, to have brunch on a Sunday. There's not much in this tiny village, but the parking lot of The Tartan was so full that we had to park a block up the street. When I arrived at the door a hand written sign apologized that there was limited staff working so there may be a long wait.
I signed my party in to the book. Yes, I had to sign myself in rather than tell someone who I was. And we waited in the parking lot, expecting an hour wait or more. In less than 30 minutes a charming young man with a broad smile called our name and showed us to our table. (I noticed later that he was also a waiter.)
After we had been seated, the 2 waitresses that I could see looked very tired, I suspect that was because we arrived after the Sunday brunch rush. Our waitress arrived in a few minutes and as cheerily as she could asked for our drink order. A few minutes later she brought them back and just as cheerily asked for our food order.
Again, we expected a long wait to eat our food due to the shortage of staff. However, in about 15 minutes our food arrived, with our waitress apologizing profusely for the non-existent delay!
And the food was delicious! It was general diner fare: omelettes, biscuits, turkey club, etc. But everything had flavor and pizazz, not bland and usual. And the warm homemade apple pie at the end topped the meal.
To top it all off, the staff was exceptional. There was only a few of them working the whole restaurant (5 plus the kitchen staff that I could see). They worked hard, look tired, but treated their customers like the guests they are. True Southern hospitality even in difficult circumstances.
If you are traveling in the mountains near Linville, or spending the day at Grandfather Mountain, make sure you plan a meal at The Tartan. You won't regret it!

(Oh, and be sure to take some time before you order to read the fascinating history of Linville and Grandfather Mountain on the menu.)

An absolutely wonderful, local, breakfast/lunch diner – type family restaurant where you are tended to as if you were a valued family member, served food that’s perfectly prepared and never nagged with that insecure server, asking “how is everything“ every 20 seconds. The corn beef hash is homemade and with two poached eggs and a biscuit with some cheese grits? That’s a breakfast from heaven. Don’t miss this place if you’re in the Linville crossroad area.

We had the blueberry lemon pancakes. It comes with three toppings, blueberry jam, cream cheese sauce and a lemon curd. The blueberries in the pancakes are so fresh that they pop when you bite into them. Then the magic happens - the lemon comes in and fills your mouth with flavor. It's a simple dish, but it hits the spot just right. I can't wait to go back for more.

The Cream Cheese Lemon Curd Blueberry Pancakes were the most delicious pancakes ever! Light and fluffy, full of berries, and the toppings were a great finish!
Coffee is always the best!
The waiter is awesome! The restaurant is always clean, and the atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming.
The Tartan is our favorite breakfast spot! We haven't tried their lunch yet, but the food looks amazing!

We went Wednesday morning as soon as they opened. We got a very nice waiter who was prompt and answered any of our questions. The restataurant was clean, and the food was prepared well. If I end up out this way again I'd visit.

As usual I like to try a local little restaurant. I pass this restaurant on my way to another place. So I decided to try it before I left town. The food was good.

We stopped in on a whim and were very pleased with our experience. We had a Ruben with macaroni salad and a barbecue sandwich with fries (aka The Maclean) - both were made fresh and absolutely delicious. My husband’s bbq had a nice smoky flavor that we both really enjoyed. Our waitress was very attentive and the absolute sweetest lady. The wait time to be seated was less than 10 minutes, which was completely understandable considering the smaller size of the restaurant, them being one of the many places now affected by a lack of available workers and it being close to closing time on a Sunday. We’re so glad we found this place and look forward to coming back next time we’re in town. Thanks for a great meal y’all!

Great breakfast and quality service. The local patrons/regulars really made our day. Several people stopped by our table to say hello and compliment our children. We are from Raleigh, visiting family. If you want to hang with the locals and experience the mountains/local food, don't miss breakfast/brunch here.
