Was such a joy to experience the SGU during the eclipse! I can’t believe how amazing and quaint this place is.

The atmosphere and the people were great. They have an upstairs and lower level bars.

10/10 recommend.

I came over from the UK to visit the JFK sites but was in awe of the Texas Theatre. As well as it’s history the theatre is a great place to watch a film. The staff are great and the films on offer are superb. I spent a couple of evenings soaking up the history and watching the movies. The place has so much character.

Bowie-oke ( karaoke). Nuff said. This theatre is a classic for the area. I missed the original time when the David Bowie movie was released. I am a huge independent movie fan and it made me happy to see this movie in my neighborhood. #OakCliff

Always a delight every time. This historical landmark and gem of my heart always delivers with it's ambience and sweet bar and seating areas. Always coming back for more. Great spot even if you just want a little drink and watch whatever's going on at the bar too.

Incredible historic theater. They’ve done an amazing job making it one of the go to entertainment destinations in the Dallas area.

Saw Gaby Alicea - El Boricua es otra cosa stand up comedy show at The Texas Theater . The theater had many historical photos and art from years past. Had the pleasure of watching Gaby perform, very funny and entertaining without vulgarity . Classy and true talent.
Makes me proud to be Boricua.

I've been going here for many events for years. When David bowie died, I went here to see Labyrinth on 35mm, I saw Return of the Living Dead here around Halloween 2 yrs ago, I went to see Brittany Broski and Sarah Schauer's Podcast tour here last year, and this year I went to see Claudio Sinonetto (again), this time to see him play the score to Demons! Texas Theater is an epicenter of culture and performance! The venue is small to mid-sized, but you can argue with how intimate and nice it is.

My absolute favorite theatre. The entire staff is so friendly & fun to nerd out with about films new & classic. The downstairs bar has great local brews, rotational brews & special drinks often themed after the most buzzed about film(s) they’re currently showing. There’s history & film memorabilia everywhere you lay your eyes, upon entering. Lots of cool, non-pretentious insta-worthy spots naturally scattered throughout the beautifully constructed building. You can essentially FEEL the history of this place & what a significant neighborhood staple it is. Many of the patrons are also cool, friendly, neighborly ppl who are happy to engage in small talk or even deeper talks about films. The downstairs theater seats something like 700 ppl & showcases amazing classic films, concerts, comedy shows, book signings, podcasts, etc. The upstairs theater showcases newer films & special anniversary screenings of beloved films. This place never gets old. Can’t say enough nice things about this establishment.

Ok first got to see Dune on 35mm what a treat. Great theater real friendly feel. Really feels like it’s run by people who get film and love it. The complaints in here are just stupid. If you don’t know where your going and why your going there then don’t go. I will say it’s in a rough part of town, however it is safe. Everybody I interacted with was great, you need to bring you patience and your humanity and realize it isn’t all about you when you come down there’s a lot going on and only a few people to help out. So basically be a nice person. Thanks for the great night out!!

The history alone is enough reason to visit. However the selection of movies that this theatre is constantly playing truly makes this place a unique gem! They play some of the best films in all of cinema. Not only this, but they have events with comedians and they also played movies with a live score sometimes! Magical. I hope this place sticks around for a long time.

This is a great venue for catching a classic movie, a current blockbuster, or even live events. You can get small bites and a drink from the bar to enjoy during the show. When we are looking to see a brand new movie in theaters, we always check to see if it's playing at the Texas Theatre first, because I'd much rather go there. It's much more laid back than normal movie theaters.

What a great venue! I love the art deco style. It's so fun and unique - also full of history. Whatever event you are attending here, there isn't a bad seat in the house!

A wonderful and historic place to see a movie. You can catch some new releases here but also re-releases of classics. I have seen both 2001 and Barry Lyndon here. Keep an eye on their website or their Facebook page to stay up to date on what classics will be screened. Before too long you'll see a chance to catch one of your favorites on the big screen!

Christmas date night was so much fun! Romance at its best. Excellent picture quality with the classic movie theater vibes. The Iron Claw was the perfect movie selection for this historic theater venue. And our drinks were smooth & very well presented

This isn't a review of the theatre as a playhouse; my visit was strictly as a history tourist and of course I wanted to see the place Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested. But it's great for that! Easy parking along the street front, and then the classic old-style building facade is just gorgeous. It's a quick visit but worth your while (especially if you've already been to Dealey Plaza and want the bookend). Recommended.

Very nice, quaint, theater with a bar. The snack bar doesn't have a lot to eat, but the personal-size pepperoni pizza (cooked while I waited between movies) was good.

An experience every film buff should have. I love this place so much and go out of my way to trek to Oak Cliff to enjoy the best curated film series. My favorite is Tuesday night Trash which hosts a different obscure, rare exploitation film from back in the day. For a complete cinematic experience grab a large popcorn, soda, and boxed candy from the concession stand, sit back and relax as you are immersed in the atmosphere of a bygone era at the historic Texas Theatre 🍿💛
