Friday fish fry!! Doesn’t get any better than this. Great fish and the sides were great too. If your looking for a great fish fry that’s also a great value, this is your place.

Mae's should be a staple for anyone wanting a little taste of home. This little restaurant knows that southern food brings comfort like nothing else on earth, and the first bite of the food at Mae's takes you back to your grandmother's kitchen. The food is perfectly seasoned ( and yes, that's a ham hock in the collards. ). The staff was attentive and friendly. Mae's is a relaxing, down home experience.

11/4/22 Very tasty soulfood! Good portions, great prices! Friendly staff. Ordered Hamburger steak w/gravy&onions, turnip greens, MP, field peas, cornbread. Going back today 11/9/22 for the smothered pork chops!!

The food was delicious! It was our first time eating here and I promise you we will be back. Even the cake was very good. I will give 10 stars ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mae’s Southern Cafe has the best soul food ever!!!!! And the prices are very reasonable. I tried the chicken and dressing with two sides & babyyyyy it was the bomb. Idk who in the kitchen but they are doing a wonderful job. 👍🏽 keep up the good work!!!!!!!

Clean place! Small in size, but take out and enjoy your food in the comfort of your home! When mom loves the food there, then you know it's good.

You'll miss it if you're not familiar with the area, as it's kinda tucked away in plain sight with a tiny sign. As for the food all my co-workers agreed it was awesome. Personally I couldn't make up my mind so I decided to order something for now and later. I chose the burger(which appeared to be a handmade patty seasoned to perfection), the pull pork fries, and a vegetable plate(true baked mac and cheese with a good cheese blend). The only true way to describe the food is that the taste, texture, and presentation all give the feel of a home cooked meal. So if you're tired of the overwhelming commercialism of the Tuscaloosa food scene, give this place a try.

Was shocked on portions and flavor, pictures don't do it any justice!!! Got their Cafe burger which was huge, jalapeño popper. Recommend trying their red velvet cake as a desert!

Absolutely loved this place. Found this place on google while visiting from out of town. Great home cooking just like grandma used to make. Every dish was blessed by Angels! We even ordered more food to go so we could eat it later on. Oh and the fried green tomatoes are to die for, trust me you wont regret it. Stop by and say hi! The staff is very friendly

If I could give this place more than 5 *'s I would. First time going was yesterday, and I'm hooked. Of course yesterday there was a huge crowed, but even with that, the staff was still nice and patient. They caught your name and greeted you by name, The FOOD!!! OH MY GOODNESS it was amazing, I didn't have to add salt or pepper. I had the hamburger steak and it was amazing. My kids had the fish and they let me taste it...I wanted to take their plate...OMG!!! I'm really funny about my fish because at restaurants they either don't season it correctly or don't fry it hard enough...but their fish was amazing... definitely going back!!!! Amazing way to honor Ms.Mae!!

Small hole in the wall place but the food was excellent portions plentiful, very clean and the people really pleasant. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Outstanding food and nice portion for the price you pay, I order the hamburger steak with gravy and onions my side were collard greens and mash potatoes and dish came with a corn bread everything was just delicious and filling.

Didn't even realize this was a restaurant; it's kind of tucked away, and overpowered by Front Porch in the same building. Let's get the bad stuff out of the way. They got my order wrong: I asked for cornbread, got the roll. The mashed potatoes were just one step above cold. It's a tiny place, more appropriate for take-out than dine-in, and in fact, many people were picking up on the way home after work while we ate. Now for the good. The baked beans were awesome, not to be missed. I ordered country fried steak and was a little nervous that it would be tough, but it was good sized, and other than one spot, was actually pretty tender. The wife got a grilled chicken salad and she raved over it. Finally, the half-and-half. Reviews seemed to be split over the quality of the service. We felt a little bit of the cold shoulder when we first came in and placed our order, which made me frown, but by the end of our meal, she had warmed up to us, and was treating us like we were one of the regular crowd. And now a word about the seasoning. A number of people are complaining about the heavy salt. Well, hello. They're telling you right up front. It's a soul food restaurant. It's like going to KFC and leaving negative reviews because all they serve is chicken. They serve soul food, and they do it well. So what score to give? Honestly, the cold mashed potatoes were hard to overcome. I keep bouncing back & forth between a 3 and 4 star review. But as we were leaving, we noticed a picture of Barack Obama on the wall, and that settled it. 5-stars!

Adventure eating at its finest! Great comfort food. Wide variety. Everything we had was very tasty and freshly cooked. We drove an hour to check it out- well worth it!

My family's first time there and it was a great experience. We had The catfish and chicken fried steak. We finished with some banana pudding!! I highly recommend! It was very good!!

This is probably the best meat and vegetable place around. I have never had anything that wasn't fantastic. They make really good homemade burgers and their desserts are top notch. You can't go wrong eating here!

I known these older cooks since they were born,there mom and mind were friend, and very excellent cooks, good tasting, just right season, very friendly, I say down to earth peoples,came up in a little place call Holt , Alabama. Always glad to see someone from back in the days. God Bless keep up the good works .

This was my first time eating here and the food was delicious. I had chicken and dumplings, yams, Mac-n-cheese, cornbread and banana pudding. I almost ate the plate it came in. 😋

I'm from New Orleans and I was looking for some good Ole southern home cooking and I found it. We're in Alabama for work and I've been here everyday for a month great food great staff family friendly environment. I love it thanks you guys for the great food and excellent service.
