This is a shout out to the I.R. Dept in the Fienberg pavilion I just received the tips procedure on my liver from Dr. Thornburg I have never been more pleased in the staff to Dr. flamm of hepatology runs,everybody in the whole entire hospital and all the different pavilions are absolutely the cream of the crop the top-of-the-line the best of the best I am so blessed I was able to be seen by these wonderful doctors I will truly be full of gratitude towards them Todd Briscoe former liver patient

Our first experience with the ER where my son was transferred from a different hospital in the city due to an emergency respiratory issue. The doctor in the ER saw my son for less than a minute told us he would be right back and didn't return for 12 hours. At the end of his shift he walked in to say goodbye and O lost my cool on him. My son had been in a severe car accident, the doctors knew this, and they left him laying in a bed for 26 hours with no medical care before moving him up to the 13th floor. While in that bed for 26 hours even with us protesting and demanding they do something the nursing staff did nothing. One of the nurses even looked me in the eye and said we are only a level one Trauma Center we aren't prepared to handle this. While he was laying there, he developed a pressure sore that took the next two months to heal.

This was my third time at the Northwestern Emergency Room this year. The first time was too personal of an issue to share online, the second time was because I broke my arm in 4 places, and the third time (this time) was because I had a debilitatingly painful infection. The first two times were fine: normal lengthy emergency waits, followed by top end care expected from northwestern. this time however, was a total disaster.
i'm a 25 year old woman and frankly, I have a very naive and sweet look to my appearance. However, I also have the highest pain tolerance of any person I've ever met in my life. I came in and when I was asked what I came in for, I showed the nurse my infection and she described it as an "abdominal wound," despite me saying I just have an infection. Going from there, in my opinion, because of the way I look and my stoic nature, I continued to wait in the ER for, no joke, 7 HOURS, before the infection increased so intensely that I started crying in the waiting room. I continued to be lied to. "3 people are in front of you so you're up soon!" I counted 10 people, and it took 2 and a half more hours. I literally waited 7 hours. 9pm to 4am.
When I finally went in to see the doctor and showed my wound and described the pain as a 7 out of 10 with 10 being a kidney stone, he didn't care. Despite it being a skin infection and complaining about other parts of my body feeling odd, I did not get a full body check and was talked to for maybe 5 minutes.
Luckily, one of my best friends set me up with an appointment with her professional because I do not feel secure about the treatment I was given at northwestern emergency. In all honesty, I felt extremely dismissed as an overreactive woman because of my appearance. Normally I would play up the pain because I really don't show severity well, but after waiting 8 hours, coming in during the hour of 9pm and leaving during the late hour of 4am, and crying for two hours in public due to pain, I just didn't have the energy to really explain how serious I actually felt that this was.
It's been one day and I have not gotten better at all yet, but hopefully when I see the dermatologist in 36 hours I will feel more security and won't be in as much pain. I told them I was bedridden but again I think the doctors thought I was exaggerating.
I don't plan to go to northwestern emergency ever again. good shepard out in fox river grove is over an hour away but i imagine i would be able to drive there, get in and out, and drive back downtown in less time than i spent at northwestern, and with a higher degree of care and attention. so i'll probably do that next time.
if you're a young woman with a high pain tolerance that doesn't have the energy to really express the severity of the pain, go somewhere else. seriously.

Service was great however the hospital called an out network ambulance service that I thought was covered from my insurance and ended up leaving me to pay for out of pocket and settle to pay the bill on top of my hospital bill that I owe another hospital. The situation I was in was out my hands. Next time check up on patient’s insurance coverage before making a hasty decision on what ambulance services are available.
