Borneman Family Cemetery

EST. Circa 1729
Resting place of Daniel Borneman, a 1721 settler of the Upper Perkiomen Valley who was a Swiss Redemptioner, his wile Maria (nee Gehman)
and fifteen known family descendents. The existing marble memorial stone was placed here on September 4, 1879 in memory of founder Daniel Borneman during a Borneman reunion event. Attending the event were approximately 3500 relatives and friends whose 1000 carriages lined the roadway.
Also on that date, a family tree listing 2925 descendents of Daniel Borneman was presented. The handcarved tree is presently on permanent display at the Schwenkfelder Museum in Pennsburg.
All gravestones were destroyed and the memorial stone is the only remaining marker existing after trail construction in 1999. A joint family and state effort is presently under way to reconstruct this consecrated and historical site.
