Dr. Belany is very professional and yet very relatable. He takes the time to explain what is happening within my diagnosis and prognosis going forward. What the next steps are, medications used, any procedures which may be required and potential side effects. He explained to me not only my diagnosis but what the root cause is and how to treat it.

His bedside manner can use some major improving. He came to see me during his rounds the morning after my thyroidectomy and made me feel like my body would be consumed with cancer because I waited so long to have my biopsy (thanks to covid). He really put fear in me. Because of this, I went to UC and see an endocrinologist there. Had my RAI treatment today and imaging showed very little remnants and thyroid cells left.

The FDA recalled Naturethroid and I was needing a replacement. Dr. Belany was able to fit me in when I mistakenly showed up a week early for my endicrinology appointment. That’s about the only positive thing I can say about this doctor.

When we talked about blood work, he was very closed to testing T3 or T4. He was only interested in TSH, which gave me flashing red warning lights. I had to INSIST these also be tested, and having gotten my blood taken, he then prescribed Levothyroxine. After just two days of being on this medication, I had trouble breathing, heart palpitations, anxiety, and insomnia...all of which are noted on the drug warning “Contact your doctor if you have such symptoms”.

My husband called the office and spoke to a nurse who said he would call back. Two hours later, the nurse (yes, not the doctor) called and stated that the doctor said there was NO WAY the medication could be causing these symptoms. My husband asked why these symptoms are listed on the warning. He also stated that I can be sensitive to medication and that I’m not just another #2 yellow pencil. He asked that they might consider an alternative medicine.

All she did was say “yes, but”, which means “Yes, but...forget everything I just said”. They REFUSED to listen and to try and help find an alternative. She even stated that I may need to see a psychiatrist. Unbelievable! I have since found a doctor who will listen and has worked with me to find a medicine that agrees with me. If you have thyroid issues, I would avoid this doctor.
