Beautiful cemetery! Enjoyed the overlook. Somewhat disappointed that I couldn't find an ancestor that was listed online. No real indicator where they are.

Wow, this place was beyond amazing. Stopped to view the Wright Bros gravesite but was taken aback by how stunning the cemetery grounds were as well as the mausoleum. The grounds are hilly with a spectacular view of Dayton. There are many huge vaults that are ornate. The mausoleum was interesting with all of people's ashes with pictures and such. A visit here really make you think about your mortality.

We visited this cemetery when we were in Dayton on a road trip. I was amazed at how many interesting people are buried here. The Wright Brothers, Erma Bombeck, Paul Dunbar. Don’t get me started on the absolutely amazing memorials and gravestones throughout this beautiful place of rest.

The Wright Brothers: A nice wooden sign let’s you know of their burial in this section. First you have their gravestones that passerby’s have lay their coins and mini airplanes in memory of the inventors of flight. A little ways down, you will find a sweet bench with 2 hats side by side representing these amazing men, Orville and Wilbur Wright.

Erma Bombeck: A sign leads you to the humorist’s gravesite. A 15 ton rock, 6 feet long and more than 5 feet high, marks Erma Bombeck's grave site. Bombeck had loved the rock to sit and think of her stories she would write, and when she died it was shipped from Arizona to Dayton on a flatbed truck. The stone was lifted into place by two cranes, and a crater had to be dug to stabilize it. A third of the rock is below ground.

Paul Laurence Dunbar: One the first African American poets to have their works known across the country. His short 33 years of life were filled with novels, short stories and poems.

Johnny Morehouse: A boy and his dog grave. The story goes that the little boy fell into the river and the dog jumped in after him to save him. Sadly, he was too late and the little boy drowned. Legend has it that the dog lay by the gravestone for weeks while passerbys through scraps down so he wouldn't be hungry.

I hope to return to be able to have a look at more of the beauty in this cemetery 🌺

This is a great place to go for peaceful drives and walks/jogs. It's such a beautiful place, probably one of the most beautiful in town. The atmosphere here is the equivalent of heaven.

Beautiful historical landmark. I visited to pay tribute to Wright Brothers and Paul Dunbar.
There is an outstanding sightseeing of Dayton at the gazebo lookout.

This is one of my favorite cemeteries to visit. Its so well kept. There are lots of interesting folks laid to rest here. The yard is massive and contains some of the most unique and amazing stones. Theres a guided tour that leads you to several well known locals. The Wright Brothers are buried here! Thats without a doubt, cool beyond words. However, with that being said, you would think their graves would be immaculate and ordained with so much art and relief in the stone work. Its not. It has some raggedy plants on the tomb, the brickwork is shoddy, its a mess. This grave should be an attraction. Statues, epitaphs, everything. It really should celebrate what they did for the world. Other than that, this place is top shelf. Take a look for yourself.

A beautiful maintained property. The overlook into the city is spectacular. The grounds are clean the gravesites are in great condition. Many notable townsfolk can be found here. If your in the area please put it on your itinerary.

As always Woodland was stunning. This garden park cemetery is stunning in spring.!! We met a friend from MO who thought it was incredible. Flowering bushes, trees, in conjunction with statuary...the best. Great historic references, and spring tidings abound! ( Not that I expected anything less, they have great management!)

I stopped by here one day randomly and decided to walk around and check things out. I was very happy I stopped in and walked around for awhile excited by all the history this place has. Lots of old tombstones and so many interesting ones too. Definitely worth a stop to even stop and relax for a few. I didn't get a chance to talk to any of the dead and ask them how they liked it here, sorry.

Visited the cemetery on a field trip and absolutely loved it. There’s way too much area to cover in one day, so I hope to go back. It’s a very quiet and peaceful place to visit, really nice for walking.

Excellent place to stroll the grounds and check out all the different trees and flowers. Don't pay any attention to the dead people around you. They are very peaceful.

I buried my mother there in 2000. It has always been the most beautiful cemetery in town. The views of downtown are outstanding. It is such a great park-like spot, with ancient, labeled trees and old tombstones and family crypts.

I used to cringe when I thought of someone hanging in the cemetery, other than to say goodbye to their loved ones.

but I found out recently that cemeteries are a great place to sit relax, release, relate and chill, reflect on your life and things to come!

Woodland Cemetery helps you do just that it has a great view of the downtown Dayton area, beautiful landscape, beautiful trees, water and of course the obvious, the Tombstones!

They're beautiful they were designed in a manner to Captivate and to keep you in tune with this land for years to come!

it's incredible here!

Visit when you can!

Beautiful place! There is so much to enjoy here: towering, ancient trees, memorials to America's war heroes, beautiful and awe-inspiring monuments to famous, royal, and wealthy dead people, postcard views of the City of Dayton, hills that make you sweat, stunning ponds hidden within the fences of Woodland, audio tours, etc. Genealogists probably drool over Woodland. I enjoy coming here to hike, read, have peaceful solitude, admire the views, and to eat lunch. It was exciting to find the gravestone of a relative here. There are beautiful marble benches all around that most people would be too superstitious to sit upon, simply because it has a dead person's name is carved on it. I bring people to Woodland Cemetery so that they can experience a quality cemetery of pedigree and provenance.

The second you drive through the park, you are surround by rich history. There are beautiful roads that go throughout the park. At the top of the hill, there is a Lookout Gazebo (you can search for this as a location as well as it’ll take you right to the top). I would suggest going to see where the Wright family is buried.

Tip: bring a camera as there is a good place d’or great views of the Dayton Skyline at the top.
