Hickam Commissary

This place has the best Deli. Its in the back corner. Acai bowl, Sushi 🍣, hot bar with pork, rice, chicken and lasagna. Panini and sub sandwiches. Great!

New Self-Checkout Layout, makes much more sense then the previous layout before and much easier to grab single drinks.

Hickam Commisary is very clean and organized. When compared to the Pearl Harbor Commissary, though the Hickam Commissary is smaller and has less stock, there are many benefits to the Hickam Commissary:

1) The prices are clearly displayed for items.
2) Less traffic since it is behind a military gate.
3) Well priced.

There are minor negatives to the Hickam Commissary but are standard for all commissaries such as:

1) Though well priced, there’s always a better price somewhere else for something (produce) so continue to shop around
2) Though tax free, you’re still charged a tax and have to tip the baggers because they work for tips. Potentially offsetting the savings all together.
3) Though located in Hawaii, it’s selection of food is still fairly mainland American.

The biggest, nicest commissary we have shopped in! The store has a huge selection of cold, frozen and canned/ boxes foods. There is a deli and a small flower section. There is a restroom at the front of the store as you walk in. Parking is convenient and check out was a breeze.

We purchase our entertainment tickets for the luau and the Cruisers from the military base, and ate lunch. Everything was at our fingertips. Customer service was very helpful.

Very pleasantly surprised. We checked out the Navy Commissary first and it seemed disorganized and didn't carry some staples that I thought it would, like coconut milk and almond milk. Hickam in comparison was neat, very well organized and had more selections to include better looking ground meat (the 80% looked a lot leaner than the NEX ground meat). Highly recommend.

Smaller than NEX with same items, usually can find here as most people end up going to NEX, and only about a mile difference. Prices mostly same however there are some items with Lower prices up to 50% differences

My first visit to Hickam AFB. Excellent facilities and great care taken to keep it that way.

Has lots of parking, staff is super friendly, and has everything you need, there is also a poke truck there

Way less frantic than the NEX commissary, and just as good of a selection.

Convenient. Good prices when compared to Safeway, Times, & Foodland grocery stores off base.

Great little commissary. Not as fancy as Pearl Habor's but much less busy with just as good of a selection of items. Parking is easy, staff is nice, you are on the installation (unlike Pearl) and the beach is just minutes away....not to mention seeing aircraft from all over the world. Highly recommend you not come to this commissary so it can stay quiet and clean ;).

Update: after a few years, I prefer this commissary over Pearl Harbor's. Yes, it is smaller but it is much less crowded. The lines are shorter and faster and I can actually find a worker when I need assistance. I dred going to Pearl Harbor's Commissary if the Hickam one is missing something.

Update #2: As of today (11APR22) masks are no longer required in the Hickam Commissary. They have revamped the self checkout area with more and faster registers. Due to the ongoing shipping issues, some products are not available but that is everywhere on island right now. I still prefer this over the Pearl Harbor Commissary any day of the week.

Update #3: The Commissary, like other places, is running short on some stuff. Be prepared to leave a little disappointed. Other than that, workers are friendly, selection of stuff (when in stock) is good. Smaller than Pearl's Commissary and I prefer that.

Update #4: Still shortages of things like apple sauce, dog food and more. This is going on across the island though so it is not any better other places. Prices still cannot be beat.

Update #5: Still running short on some items. Same good place to get groceries and what not.

Update #6: Still short on stuff like lunchmeats. Prices are hard to beat, crowds are much better than the Pearl Harbor Commissary.

Update as of 28FEB23: No major changes. Still the better commissary in my opinion. Have been some stocking issues with items such as lunchmeat but this is kind of expected on the island these days.

Update as of 1MAY23: No major changes. Still a good Commissary with great prices.

Update as of 3JUL22: No changes.

Moved to hickham from Schofield barracks and wow…This commissary is excellent. Friendly employees, good prices, lots of self check outs!

Nice commissary. They had everything I wanted and I didn’t have to wait in line which was great, especially since it was 5:00 pm on a weekday when every other commissary is normally packed.

I LOVE this place!!! Able to enjoy quiet moments if you go at the right time. But, Family Friendly. Any place by the ocean is alright with me ☺☺💞

I’m on base, so this is very convenient. Typically, I spend about an hour in the store but that’s because I don’t feel rushed or a need to race to checkout since it never takes long to get in and out when necessary. Currently, they aren’t selling poke but the sushi is still being sold. I’ve never had a bad experience with the items or the cashiers. The environment is truly family friendly and welcoming as well.

The best deli & sushi. Such a large variety of food and produce, as well as a great selection of coffee! Good prices too!

Not to busy when I went today! Had an excellent Ruben sandwich made there and it was really great to have it on Rye bread. They also had Chicken gizzards which my dog love.

No line at the check out! Which was really nice. I guess it's all about going in at the right time.
