Dollar Car Rental - Honolulu Airport

We rented a compact car (2020 Kia Rio).

If you want to have a good experience, always pick up your car after 10:00pm. I have read the reviews and it seems like most people are complaining about the absurdly long wait times. Well, if you pick up your car after 10pm, you will be sure to have a 5-star experience.

We arrived at this location (We were actually renting from Thrifty, but Thrifty and Dollar’s rental cars were at the exact same location.) at approximately 10:50pm on November 17th, 2023. Only one other person was in line, and that person was just finished at the counter when we got there. We were greeted by a kind lady who was very proactive. She had already parked our car right in front of us, and she had already opened up the trunk of our car for us! How considerate. Luckily, our car smelled normal, was clean, and had lots of legroom. I definitely had a 5-star experience at this Dollar/Thrifty Location.

One last reminder: If you want a 5-star experience here, ALWAYS pick up your car after 10pm!

EDIT: Out car has great fuel economy (about 33 MPG overall).

I rented two SUVs online for our family vacation, booking both in my husband's name. Upon arrival we added my sister as an extra driver to her car with no problems. Upon checkout there was an issue with the system recognizing the leap year, and since our car registration expired at the end of the month, it wouldn't allow us to rent that car. They handled it beautifully, telling us to go ahead and return our car to the lot, parking it back in the spot it was in, and to then pick out any other SUV we wanted at no extra charge.
We arrived at 7pm on a Thursday, and were done & out, even with the unexpected switch & upgrade, by 8pm. I paid in full in advance online and got a fantastic rate.
Upon return the check-in went smoothly and there were no issues.
Staff was professional, welcoming, and helpful at all times.

I don't know if the reviews we read on here were old or outdated but we booked with Dollar Car Rental out of Honolulu airport and had a GREAT experience. Seamless paperwork and check-in for my husband and I and when we got down to the garage they UPGRADED us to a Camaro completely FREE! We had it for a couple of days and turned it back in with no extra charges. We were very pleased with this experience and our wait time (being around 8-9am on a Thursday) was very quick. Thought I would give the company a little extra boost since our experience was very different from others on here.

The entire rental car process was smooth sailing. The exact location of this main location at HNL airport is easy to find and the staff are very friendly. The car rental daily rates were affordable. All the costs on the invoice were explained clearly to me by the clerk when I was picking up the car. The rental car itself was clean, new, and well taken care of. My 2023 Nissan Altima was nearly spotless when I picked it up. The return process was smooth and quick. All-in-all this is my favorite rental car experience on-island.

I've rented from Dollar before and never had a problem. This time I rented from Dollar they were great. Normal waiting time. Because rental car companies are always busy at the Honolulu airport. I had rented a Nissan pathfinder as I had 5 adults and lots of luggage. They didn't have the Pathfinder, so they gave me a GMC Yukon Xl in it's place for the same price. It was a great upgrade. We had lots of room for everyone and our luggage. The only problem I had with the Yukon is that the condo building we stayed in parking garage had one level for parking a vehicle that big. So if you rent a large vehicle like that, check where you're staying to make sure you can park it. I highly recommend Dollar rental for renting a car. Quick, easy and most affordable of the companies.

Pro tip: if you yell out "Ohana means family," then they will take you up to the front without waiting. You have to be pretty loud, though, because there is usually a large crowd.

Most people don't know this and prefer to wait (sometimes for hours)

Got here at 10 pm, no line whatsoever, got the paperwork done and the car in 10mins. The lady who helped me out even recommended a lot of local restaurants to me. If you got here and they are packed, just remember people need time to do their jobs.

I used the express counter on level 1 as was 5:15am and was served by a lovely fellow named Arnel. He was very thorough and informative. The car was super clean and ready to go!

The hotel people backed truck into a parking box and broke tail light. There was no problem turning it in and paperwork was short a quick. Great .

I was worry about my rental car because of reviews. But it was so fast processing in and out. I totally use this rental car again.

After experiences with other car rentals I wasn’t optimistic. But Chloe who helped us was super helpful and deserves a 5/5 star review for her service and care for the customers.

Easy and convenient. Service was great and the suv we got was very nice.

I had a great customer service experience from Arnel at this location this afternoon. He appreciated the fact that I was a long time Express member and he gave me some helpful tips for future reservations. He is a credit to the organization and shows much aloha. Mahalos, Arnel!
